This shirt is great, fits good and keeps me warm without being too hot. I got it for duck and goose hunting and it’s a perfect layer for cold California mornings while sitting in a blind. Can’t speak for how it would do in much colder areas, but out here it works great. I was going to give it 4 stars because I always feel there’s room for improvement in a product, but then my girlfriend said I looked “hot” in it. I figure any product that can make me look hot at my age (slightly north of 70) deserves the highest rating possible!
This is the first less-than 5 star review I have given to a Filson product. The reason that it doesn’t get a fifth star is that this new waffle knit thermal crew is noticeably lighter than the previous two that I bought a year and a half ago. I definitely prefer the older, heavier navy and brown versions that I have. Please go back to the old weight. (All that said it is waaaay better than any other brand I have tried in the past. Filson, as usual, is only competing with itself.)
I drive the zamboni at 2 rinks on Long Island. One in new Hyde park and the other for the islander organization in Syosett. It gets very cold his time of year Inside the rinks so I was looking for an xtra warm base layer to wear . The Filson waffle thermal was definitely the way to go. I’m very happy with it and highly recommend it.
Own a couple of these waffle knit shirts, so that tells you I like them. Fit is spot on, not oversized, and not a tight trim cut. The grey has a much softer feel than than the other colors, not sure which I prefer, but there is a difference. They have retained their shape and size after washing, as long as washing in cool temps and low heat drying. Highly recommended! For reference I’m 5’11 210 athletic frame.
This waffle knit is soft and seems to be well made. It is not all cotton like the other waffle knits which I have also. I was aware of this when I bought it and wanted to see the difference. It fit similar with the exception that the body is slightly shorter. I have a longer torso so that is why I give it a four star. It also does not feel quite as heavy or thick as my other 100% cotton waffle knit. I am 6’2” and 235 and the XL fits fine.
I keep wearing the Waffle Knit Thermal Crew and find it to be one of the best if not the best waffle knit shirts I have ever owned. It is heavy, warm and comfortable. I don't think it could be made any better. It's that good. Besides, my wife thinks I look sexy in it. More colors would be nice.
