Sizing Tip: Hoka Tends To Run Big, We Suggest Going A Half Size Down From Your Normal Size.
Equal parts Speedgoat and mid-cut fast hiker, the Speedgoat Mid GTX 2 is that sweet spot between a trail runner and hiking boot. Featuring an anatomically designed collar for additional ankle support, the Speedgoat Mid GTX 2 performs in a variety of weather thanks to a GORE-TEX® waterproof bootie. A speed hiker with a Vibram® Megagrip outsole, the Speedgoat Mid GTX 2 is a force to be reckoned with on any day.
Pull tabs are a must for me but they made them too weak
I have 3 complaints for this shoe. 1) The pull tabs are not designed effectively. They are very weak and the left pull tab completey separated from the left shoe and I had the shoes for less than 2 months. They need to improve the design to make the pull tabs stronger and more secure so they never tear away from the material. 2) The tongue of the shoe is too short and thin. I prefer thicker padded tongues that are longer to give more comfort, stability, and ankle support and protection. 3) I don't like that they put the small Reflective logo on the back of the shoe. One of the reasons I ordered the shoe was because I thought it had nothing reflective on them. When I got the shoe in hand I saw that wasn't the case. That was a big disappointment. I hope that Hoka makes these 3 improvements on the 3rd version of the Speedgoat mid because if they do I will probably buy 2 pairs of them. I do like the Black and anthracite colorway, that's the one I bought. I hope they continue to make a black/black or Black/grey colorway option for the Speedgoat mid. I hope a new and improved Speedgoat mid 3 will be releasing soon, with no reflective accents.
Hoka products are only made to be supportive to one type of foot. If you have high arches weak ankles wide feet or your feet tend to point or roll while walking or standing THESE ARE NOT THE SHOES FOR YOU. Returned this product and hoka wouldn't stop emailing me for a review!
Bought them for work, I work in the lab at an urgent care centre and need shoes with lots of support for being on my feet all day, and they have to be waterproof. These have been a dream. Usually I end up with a heavy hiking boot that really fatigues my legs but these are sooo light! Love them!
Excellent so far , I've got 50 hiking and trail running miles on them , no wear showing , supper grippy and comfortable and my feet have stayed dry in wet spring hiking conditions. Little difficult to put on and take off , love them so far tho
I bought these boots to wear during winter and on rainy days in the city. I don't hike or run. They are way softer and more comfortable than any GORE-TEX boots I've owned in the past. Nothing compares to the level of cushioning and comfort these boots afford. I'm really impressed with Hoka's soles and fit. I highly recommend you stop by your local Hoka distributor and try on a couple of Hoka running shoes and boots to see how they feel on your feet.
Use this every run or fast-hike since I received them. Typical Speedgoat, but with a mid cut...which means more stability. Would 100% recommend a half size up if you have wider foot like me, but overall absolutely no problem. Gore Tex isn't too hot while running on drier, warmer days. Grippy, durable, and cozy...these are my new daily go-to!
I really like the Speedgoat mid shoe. Its tough to find a shoe that is good for hiking that you can also run in. These shoes hit the nail on the head. Excellent comfort, stable, and just the right amount of flexibility. The only improvement that I see that could be done is, I wish they had a lace system like Solomon's do or the BOA lace system. That being said, its not enough to make me not buy these shoes again. I really really like them.
I had to return my speed goat mids. I have very bad knees and these made them feel awful. I think because of the thousands of little micro adjustments my knee had to do while wearing the soft cushy sole. They did feel like slippers when I had them on, but my lousy knees found no stability.
I purchased the Speedgoat Mid Gore-Tex 2 to replace an old pair of Nike Lunar Terra Arktos as my primary outdoors shoe to train/play with my pup. I was extremely excited upon trying them on for the first time and feeling how comfy & cushy they are. So far, in the 21 days I've had them, they've trekked through Minnesota's wet, melty snow. Lots of standing water from the snow, and the grassy terrain of my yard. They've held up to all of these things with ease. Very grippy, very comfortable all throughout the shoe. One thing I wasn't sure about initially was if I'd have any issues due to having very flat feet, but I've had no trouble at all.
I'd easy recommend these to anyone looking for a soft, responsive, springy, and waterproof type of shoe/boot hybrid.
I own two pair of Hoka's - both Bondi 7, one pair for outdoor casual wear and the other for indoors. This new pair of Goatspeed is for hiking with my granddaughter and wife. This is not hardcore hiking but it is trail hiking. I have some wonky knees so I was looking for the right shoe and it took some sifting of the options Hoka offers. I have worn them about 6-7 times and I am delighted with them. Good weight, stability, comfort, with no end of day weariness. Some took issue with getting in the shoe but I addressed that with loosing the laces and using a long shoe horn. I would definitely recommend the shoe for hiking/walking. Like many I am slowly changing over my causal footwear to Hoka's. I was recommended to Hoka by my friend who is a triathlete.
Im a Material tech in a huge hospital so I'm on the run all day. Averaging 12 miles a day bringing essentials to doctors/nurses/ER etc. My speedgoats have changed the game. No more back, knee, thigh, calf pain from unforgiving concrete hallways. No doubt I will buy them again. Thanks Hoka
Nice shoe for my needs. I would recommend this product.
I use the shoes playing senior softball on all surfaces. I like the Gore-Tex for staying dry. Also the grip on the shoe bottom. I didn't like the insoles. I added insoles from a company called Sole insoles out of Canada. These together make a great shoe.
I'm 79 and have been hiking/running for about 70 years. Presently, I hike 6 days a week, sometimes on flat trails and sometimes on challenging terrain such as the coast trail in East Sooke Park. Over the years, I have used up many pairs of trail shoes and boots, but nothing compares with my Hoka's. They are without doubt the most comfortable shoe and boot I have ever hiked in. As I said to a friend recently, "these boots will likely allow me to continue to hike far longer than I might have expected at my age". I own a pair of Speedgoat gortex and the same shoe in a mid-boot. I like the extra ankle support of the mid-boot for more technically challenging trails. No other trail shoe/boot comes close to my Hoka's. Thank you Hoka One One for extending my hiking life.
Have the real runners, wanted something beefier for backpacking. These missed the mark & not worth upgrade from trail runners. 2 points. First, they lace up like sneakers with no hook type eyelets. Would be pain to get offafter a long day. Second, I was hoping for something a bit beefier, incrementally not excessively more than the trail runner. So I'll stick with the trail runner for light backpacking trips. The ten nine didn't work either, not enough cushioning and those beat up my feet. The heel thing didn't do anything for me, so trading that as a gimmick, ymmv. The spoedgoat mid, on the other hand, felt wonderful. If I didn't already have the trail runner version I probably would have kept these.
Shoe did not fit as expected. I ordered a wide shoe to accommodate my orthotics. Hoka sent regular width. I returned the shoes. Customer service was so difficult to deal that I just got my money refunded rather than deal with getting the shoes replaced
High quality , truly waterproof winter trail shoes
These shoes are very wide and have room for my toes to lie flat as they would normally, as if I was barefoot, which is great for my knees and hips. They are warm (fine in -20C) truly waterproof (I have walked through ice snow slush and deep puddles many time and never a leak), and are very very comfortable on hikes over 20KM. Given their warmth they are three season shoes and not four. My only feedback would be that the support around the ankles of the shoes, which is great and as advertised, make them difficult to put on...could you have a half zipper maybe without compromising the waterproof nature of the shoe?
Although this is not a winter shoe, I loved using them in above -10C temperatures. It has good grip on snow. The fit is amazing and the sole is super cushiony. I will definitely buy another pair of high-tops when the time comes.
Have been using this shoe for long distance runs - even with the high ankle it's been great. 20km + and no discomfort. Lots of cush and stability. I find it fits a little bit long compared to other brands.
Nice trail boot as they offer good support on uneven terrain and excellent grip when there has been some icy patches on the paths. Not quite a four season wear as your feet will get a bit cold when the temperature drops to far below freezing if you're not wearing an adequate sock but they are close.
Bought them for trip to Park City a couple weeks ago - the only shoe I took. Comfortable on plane, for casual dinners, walking through snow, snowshoeing, hiking Capitol Reef. Please keep making them when I need another pair down the road!!
As a registered nurse I am always looking for a work shoe that will be comfortable on concrete floors for 12 hrs a day. Shoes like that are hard to find but HOKA has delivered. There is no terrain more demanding than the floor of an ICU and my Speedgoats show up every day and perform flawlessly.
It is very comfortable shoe, worked great in cold weather
It is a very comfortable shoe. Very plush feel compared to my trail runners Altra Lone Peak 4.5 and Salomon X Ultra Mid hiking boots.
Recently tested them in extreme conditions with the recent snow and ice storm down to 10 degrees. The Vibram tread is very good on these shoes, but still, when there is more ice on the road or trail I would fit a pair of Kahtoola EXOspikes, which work well with these shoes.
Also tested them out with my MSR Lighting Accent Snow Shoes in 8 inches of powder, very comfortable, felt a solid connection with the snow shoes.
Also tried them with Black Diamond Trekking Skis Glidelight 147, this one area they were not a good fit with the pillow cushion of the shoes, they would naturally role the ski to the outside edge.
Looking forward to hikes this summer in them scouring the southern Colorado mountain range.
Now the one thing, that I would change is the lacing system, I prefer the speed lacing that is on the Salmon Ultra boots, quicker to get into and out and lace-up tight. Also, the upper lace eyelets were not punched large enough for laces, barely could get the end of lace though.
Purchased for my son's summer camp for hiking, but he's been wearing them in the snow, completely waterproof, and for miles all over the city since receiving them. He loves them. Seem very durable so far.
I was looking for a lightweight trail shoe to do some hiking and dirty yard work. I read great things about these bering light and comfy and - WOW - they really deliver. Already had the chance to wear them on the trails and through this years snow. Like walking on clouds! Great tread and comfort. Highly recommend.
Living out in Breckenridge, CO and running about 25-30 miles a week. Everyday is mud, snow, gravel and slush. The traction is fantastic. My feet are dry and warm. Beast shoe. About 200 miles on them and they're going strong.
Was hoping the SPEEDGOAT MID 2 GTX was better than the originals but these leak too. I've been using them for walking the dog in slush and a couple inches of snow, the traction is fantastic, but after about 40 miles both shoes are leaking in the toe area.
Just purchased the Speedgoats and I must say they are fantastic. Live in the New England so we have all the weather. Used them shoveling in a full blizzard, zero issues. Warm/no water and very comfortable. Went on long rocky hikes and feel the same. Just an awesome comfortable light hiking sneaker.
