I was drawn to the FreeFlex Short as a possible more durable alternative to my LuLuLemon Pace Breaker Shorts. Starting with the positive: 1) the FreeFlex short seem very durable while still offering a great 4-way stretch material, 2) These shorts are a great option for the gym or while on the trail. 3) the material is quick dry and will function well while wet wading or while taking a quick swim. 4) the 10 inch inseam falls nicely just above the knees. What could be done better: 1) I found the FreeFlex shorts to have an unusual fit. I originally bought the XL which were bellowing and exchanged them for size Large which feel a little constricting. 2) the waist band is wide which feels uncomfortable when seated for long periods of time (think working from home). 3) the thighs would be more comfortable if they were cut a little wider. 4) the main pockets would be more functional if they were slightly bigger/deeper. In conclusion, while not as comfortable as my PaceBreaker shorts, I expect the FreeFlex shorts to perform well when participating in more rigorous outdoor activities where both comfort and durability are necessary.
I bought these shorts in two colors and am really happy with them. In fact, they are my go-to when headed to the gym. Great quality, comfortable, and I love the cell phone pocket.
I bought these as work out shorts but the second I put them on I knew I had underestimated them. They look clean and professional. They fit amazingly. They move with any exercise you want and the zippered pockets keep all your stuff safe. The only hint that these aren't dress shorts is the elastic waist band and drawstring. So as long as you don't tuck in your shirt you are ready for any activity or setting that shorts are suitable for. I've weightlifter in them, jogged in them, gone on dates, and sat on the couch for marathon stretches and the freeflex shorts performed admirably in every situation. I've seriously been living in these shorts all summer, I love them. I need to buy more colors. I have other Kuhl shorts and they've taken a support role, really only coming out when I need more pockets. And these are some of the more affordable shorts Kuhl makes. Buy them.
Shorts feel great and functional, but wish they were a little shorter. The shorts come just above my knee and when exercising or hiking, I prefer a little shorter for mobility. Other than that, they are great quality.
I purchased these shorts in my usual size (large). Unfortunately, the elastic band is very soft; moreover, the drawstring is narrow, string-like and overly elastic. Consequently I am unable to get them tight enough to keep them from slipping down. I has also made it impossible to carry weight in the pockets, such as a cell phone. I bought a pair of pants of similar construction and have the same problem. This is the first time I have been other than delighted with a Kuhl product.
These shorts wore very well, really love the fit and the fabric. Only small knock is that the angle/depth of the pocket is such that things can fall out fairly easily. They have a zipper so it’s not a major concern, but you probably want to keep them zipped most of the time.
I bought 2 pair of these to try out. The fit was spot on, bought the medium, 8 in long and was a hit. The material breathes, ample room side pockets with zippers to keep things securely in place. The back pocket I would recommend having a zipper; I wouldn't recommend putting a wallet back there for fear of it falling out if you're out hiking or doing something active. The fact that the cell phone pocket on the left can hold an iPhone XS MAX with on issues is an all around plus as well. I've washed them a number of times and appears to keep its shape and color so far. You don't really need the drawcord but that's a nice edition if you're carrying more in the pockets than normal. I bought 4 more pair prior to this review.
I've had 2 pair of these for a few weeks now and they have become my go to shorts. The elastic waist seems about perfect, not too snug, not to loose and I like the cell pocket, soft fabric. Very happy customer
Loved them immediately and wanted to wear them everyday. I am typically not one who likes to wear shorts but these are so comfortable and I look so good in them.
The shorts are of a soft material with a slim fit. They wear well and are comfortable for all-day use. These were purchased for lounging around the house or running errands around town. Nice to have something that works for both. Originally purchased the large based on the size chart, but had to exchange for a medium. With the elastic waist, the large just didn't fit even pulling the draw strings as tight as possible.Medium works well.
My husband loves shorts with lots of pocket, which usually meant bulky cargo shorts until now! Found these shorts with tons of discreet pockets for all of his stuff! Even with the pockets full with phone, keys, wallet, they still look nice and you don't even notice the items in the pockets. The fabric is awesome too!

Have purchased a bunch of different Kuhl shorts over the years. I love these Freeflex shorts -- the fabric on these, like all Kuhl shorts, is for me the biggest selling point. They are rugged, perform well, have just the right amount of stretch and look good enough to wear with a polo even though I never do. Overall, just a tremendous item of clothing. These spark joy for me.
At 5’8” and 200 lbs, it’s difficult to find shorts or pants that fit well. They typically are too loose in the waist and tight in the thighs. Everything requires a belt or drawstring and most end up with bunched material around the waist which isn’t comfortable. These fit fairly well and offer enough flexibility that they aren’t restrictive and don’t bunch up. I have the 10” length. I use these for trail MTB in southwest desert and they work better than all my MTB specific shorts unless I need to wear pads. They ride up a bit and leave a gap. A 12” length will be my next purchase for those rides. Also, the phone pocket is perfect for iPhone 7 in otter box. Out of the way, easily accessible, and phone doesn’t fall out or fry from leg sweat on 100+ days. Only downsides for me personally would be color choices and could use a better drawstring than the thin elastic one. Replace it with something wider and less elastic.
I love these shorts they are amazing. I was looking for something that I could use while kayaking and these are perfect. However, I used the measurements shown on their website and bought accordingly and the shorts were huge on me. Annoying only because I ended up having to pay shipping back to them when the sizing was off. I will stick to in-person purchasing from Kuhl from now on.
These are my new go to shorts, going to the store, going to hang with friends, anytime I am going anywhere I try to wear these. They are comfortable with pockets, breathable, and comfortable.
Bought these for CrossFit and they haven’t disappointed, Comfortable, durable and lightweight. I would recommend the 10” length for this activity. Though the 12” works fine i just like a bit less material for squats and snatches.
Fit is always the same and true to size for me. Comfort is maximum. These are a nice casual and less tactical looking and feeling pant and a welcome addition to the wardrobe. Will buy more
