I don't write shoe reviews. Another thing I never do is buy the same shoe twice, even if I rather like the style. The OluKai Nohea Moku broke both of these rules. Not only are these shoes some of the most lightweight, easy-to-wear, and comfortable shoes I've ever had (not to mention they look cool), but they have held up to more than a year of heavy use with very little wear to show for it! They are still in better shape than many shoes I've had for half as long. They're still comfortable as the day I got them, and they're my go-to shoe for any situation. Durable and flexible enough to take hiking, and stylish enough for a night out, I love love these shoes.
Bought these shoes last May. Loved wearing them without socks. My feet felt the freedom they deserved at work. The problem with these shoes, however, is that a hole wore through where my big toe is on both shoes in a couple of months. The mesh fabric on the top of the shoe is simply not durable enough. I've loved all the shoes I've bought from OluKai. Even looked at them longingly on the rack today at a surf shop. Too bad.
I am a "desert rat" from Phoenix Arizona. My wife and I always like to spend a week or 2 every year in Del Mar/San Diego Ca area. We were in an upscale men's shop in Del Mar when the sales clerk suggested I consider OluKai shoes. I never heard of them and declined at first, then I became curious and tried on a pair of Nohea Lole slip on's. They felt fantastic and I bought them on the spot. I wore them the rest of the week in Del Mar and Palm Springs, comfortable from the start. Now back in Phoenix and I am looking for a store that sells OluKai Footwear and find that Nordstrom's in Scottsdale AZ sells OluKai ........ just purchased another pair, this time I had my eye on a pair of NOHEA MOKU, I wanted a laced pair for a more dressed up look. I suggest you go and give this brand a chance..... at least try on a pair and see if you if these are for you.
I was pretty disappointed with the nohea mohu. These were marketed as a quick drying boat shoe. I wore them sailing and the mesh was like a water magnet. The fabric did not shed water but soaked it up and made the shoes heavy and sloppy. They did not dry out until the next day. At the price that you have to pay they should have used a better water shedding material, otherwise you just paid $100 for a squelchy soaked water shoe. Before they got wet they were very light, airy, and comfortable.
I was impressed with how quick you put this shoe on and off once tied. The fit is loose and comfortable. I plan to wear these for work and causal. OluKai’s line offerings are great this is my 3rd pair.
I bought these shoes on a whim before a trip to the beach in California in Jan of 2017 and threw them in my suit case. I put them on the first day heading down to the beach and never took them off. It was a ridiculous moment for me... Someone who has had foot problems all of their life suddenly found the most comfortable pair of shoes they had ever bought and it was on a whim and were originally only intended for the beach for one or two vacations.
Anyways, 2 solid months of wearing them every day and they were shot. The fabric of the insoles had worn off on the heel and ball of my foot and my big toe had worn through the top. OluKai replaced them no questions asked but by that time I had already bought another pair of leather OluKai's. I wear the new ones sparingly but they are already showing the same signs of wear as the last pair.
I found one of the brand new ones today in a new color at my local retailer with a manufacture date of 10/17 and noticed that they were a little different. The footbed material felt slightly different as well as the inside of the shoe and the mesh on top. I immediately bought a pair because the leather ones I have been wearing the rest of this year are a bit hot in the summer. I think OluKai has fixed the wear issues with the latest revision of this shoe but only time will tell how long they last. If I get a full year out of them I will be satisfied.
I own several pairs of OluKai flip flops that I’m happy to pay $120 because of the arch support. I liked the looks of the mesh shoe, so I purchased them. Unfortunately they lack arch support. Yep, I’ll just replace the inserts. Aloha iā ʻoe!
I wear these with no socks. The mesh is super breathable so my feet never sweat. These shoes are super wide so I have sufficient room to use a pair of terry cloth inserts. They are really easy to slip on and off. A really excellent casual shoe. I get compliments on them too.
Just spent my first full weekend wearing these and enjoy them. ***Pay attention to the size recommendation in the description. I'm between a size 11.5 and a 12 (depends on the brand). I ordered a size 12 in these and a pair of the Kahu's. The Kahu's feel great. After walking around in these...I really wish I had ordered a size 11.5. I now feel stuck with a $100 pair of shoes that are too big (didn't notice until I was really out walking around in them).
Otherwise, as someone who typically wears running shoes, love the ability to just slip these on and go. Love the collapsible heal; great for quick trips outside. Also love how light and airy they are. Had a windy day and I could actually feel the breeze across my foot.
My only real criticism is this: If you misstep on the outside of your foot (ie the outside of the sole), the shoe wants to keep rolling resulting in supination (rolling the ankle). Again, I typically wear running shoes so maybe I've taken for granted the amount of stabilization built into those.
I would recommend for others to try them. It's a little frustrating as an online shopper (not much shopping in Northern Louisiana) that sizes aren't consistent from one shoe to the next, but they do recommend in the details going a 1/2 size smaller. I'm mad at myself for missing it.
I have had multiple pairs of their sandals over the years and have loved them. These shoes however there is nothing quick dry about them, I bought them to use a boat shoes with occasional need to hop into the water to push the boat off of a sand bar if I drift too far. Sure enough I had to do it on a couple times over the weekend. Even though they haven`t been exposed to water for over 24 hours, they are still just as wet as if i was wearing a regular pair of shoes. This is probably just me but if you have narrow feet, plan on having to cut the elastic cord out so you can lace them up tight enough to not fall off your foot when walking around, haven't done it yet but I think that`s my next step. I believe they are constructed very well and will last a long time, but they just are not up the the full standards that I have come to expect from OluKai.
I have wide feet so I really struggle to find shoes that fit and are comfortable. I found Olukai by accident and they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. And they are stylish as well! They can be worn casually or used for a slightly more dressed up look. I am going to buy some of the other colors as well. The only thing is that I think I will buy half a size smaller next time as the shoe seems to be designed for a snug fit.
I am no stranger to OluKai as I have had several slippers over the years. Without a doubt some of the most comfortable footwear out there. I have stated in a previous review of the 'Ohana slippers, I have worn them to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knott's Berry Farm, Sea World, etc, and my feet are never sore or tired. I put the Nohea Moku to the same test recently and as I expected they more than held up to the challenge. Super comfortable, good arch support, and a good looking shoe. I will be putting them to the test over the next six months to see if their durability can match their other footwear.
Had these styling shoes for about a month now. Really like how they look and feel. I wanted something that had a relaxed style and also could be worn for business casual. Already got some complements at the office for their unique look :)
