Constructed with Merino6TM Technology, the Chinook Merino Crew LS base layer is the foundation for our layering system. This piece is designed to incorporate the soft feel and moisture-wicking capabilities of nylon while retaining the insulating and odor-resistant benefits of merino wool on extended backpacking trips. Constructed with a longer tail and seamless shoulders this piece is specifically designed for use on extended backpacking trips but equally at home as an everyday layering piece.
Merino6 is our propriety blend of the highest quality Merino Wool and high performing Nylon 6.6 micro denier yarns. After extensive testing, we found the perfect combination to be 89% Merino Wool and 11% Nylon. By blending Wool and Nylon, we created a textile that leverages the benefits of Merino with the advantages of Nylon. Merino6 products have an extremely soft hand feel, regulate your body temperature while eliminating odor, and won't stretch or shrink like traditional 100% Merino textiles. Additionally, the Nylon fibers increase the moisture-wicking ability of the garment and enhance the durability of the textile, creating the perfect backcountry, next-to-skin, layering piece.
I was pretty skeptical the price of these would reflect the quality; especially since there are many cheaper options. I bought these for a 4 day 40 mile backpacking trip in January along the rogue river Oregon and was not disappointed. At night it got down to the 20’s and it snowed 1 day. This base layer exceeded my expectations, I wore one pair all 4 days. It did an outstanding job at keeping me dry while hiking, wicking the sweat away. These were very warm and comfortable. I’m 5’10” 230lbs and size L fit me well
100% perfect I even wear this just to walk my dogs now.
I mean there might not be a better base layer, I used this on a 7 day hunt in Nebraska during the winter. Kept me warm and comfortable. I wear it every day to walk my dogs in the cold. A+ saving up to buy a second pair.
Finally decided to purchase a merino top and bottom, went with the new Chinook set and have not been disappointed (other than with shipping and Canadian customs). High quality, only complaint is the sleeve and torso length; I’m 6’1” 180 and ordered a medium, the cut is great but the sleeves and torso are easily 3” longer than necessary (and I have monkey arms so this is a rarity). Really not a big deal though, would absolutely buy again!
This is my new favorite base layer. Right out of the package it was soft and comfortable, unlike a lot of other brands. I purchased a XL and it fits great, a tad snug but that is what I want for a base layer. Thanks Stone Glacier!
I spent most of the year in and out of the backcountry. Most of my gear is absolutely dialed, all except the baselayer. I’ve tried multiple different companies’ offerings in different fabrics. Nothing ever proved out completely right on the trail. In the back of my mind more than once, I had the thought, ‘I wish Stone Glacier made a baselayer. They’d do it right.’ Well, they made one. And while I haven’t gotten it out on the trail yet, as this showed up the day after my last hunt of the year (of course), initial wear tests and fit and finish are great. This baselayer is heads and shoulders better than any other company’s product. Hands down.
