I love the pocket layout of these pants, the large cooling vent zips on the sides of the legs, and the knee pad pockets. The only suggestion for SG for these pants is to change the zipper pulls and use a higher denier thread for overall construction. Zipper pulls on the 3 separate pants that I have owned so far have all come loose and come off, losing them while hiking through brush. The threads also wear very quickly and I have had to put the pants to my sewing machine and repair and also reinforce the seams. Overall it's my go to every day wear pant and my go to hunt and hike pant. Almost 5 stars, and I'll continue to buy them. I would love to see a black version of this pant, I could see it having a place for police and game warden use.
These pants are awesome. The material and overall design are great. I’m an average built guy 6ft 190 with a 32-33” waste depending on the day of course Ha!I got these in a medium thinking with the adjustable zipper it’d be ok, however they’re just a little smaller than true to size. If you’re on the fence bump up a size!
Overall the feel, construction and look of the pants are awesome. But the sizing/fit seems to be off. I am a comfortable 31-33 in the waist in ALL of the pants I wear and so I ordered the Medium (31.5-34) for these and I can say I barely fit at the 34 mark. Its almost as if the new contour waist fit system was installed incorrectly because the 34 mark feels like a 31 while the 31 feels like well a 28 lol. Only pro to this, is the sizing issue will push me to lose a few pounds but I'm still bummed about the poor fit.
The pants are very nicely made, fit well through the waist and thigh but the bottoms flare out and drag on the ground. Maybe I just ordered the wrong size but they seem oddly large near the ankle compared to other hunting pants that are currently out there.
These pants fit great! I am 6’5” 195lbs and they are perfect length and waist. Material is durable and paired great with polar fleece base layers for active warmth in single digits temps very comfortably
I used this pant on my recent mule deer hunt. Wore them 4 days straight. I was impressed with the fit and comfort. Velcro zipper helped to adjust waist size when adding or taking away layers. The side zip ventilation was excellent! Worked well with long underwear and when the day warmed up felt good to expose the skin to cool down. Fabric has excellent DWR finish only fault is the slight swish of material when walking.
I bought theses a few days ago and had them out on a couple hunts. Used them during the Montana youth opener with my son and we got some snow. Was wearing gaiters and a pair of chinks. The pants we’re comfortable and the long length was exactly what I’ve been looking for since I’m a taller guy. Monday October 19th I wore them again this time without gaiters and the lower leg opening is great, since other companies have a tapered leg which I hate. With that said, in the snow the hems roll up and push upwards and stack above the ankle allowing more moisture to get up under the pant and boots. Had a slight rain and I was soaked from the waist down. My Kuiu guide and Sitka timberline pants both out perform these pants as far as water resistant goes. A suggestion for the lower leg for me would be installing an elastic or some sort of strap to go underneath the boot like a built in gaiter to keep the hem from rolling up. Other than the leg opening and the water resistance issues I loved the fit and length of these pants. Especially when hiking and riding my horse. For the price I think a little more features for moister can be better.
These Havilland pants are worth every penny. I’ve owned kuiu and I’ll never go back. From the moment I put these on I could tell the quality so much so it’s the only pants I took on my hunt. I put these through the ringer on a 5 day bear hunt here in Colorado. They preformed flawlessly. Super quick drying, quiet, practically rip resistant and most importantly the comfort you get with these adjustable pants! You won’t regret this purchase!
There are very comfortable. The vents really dump your heat almost immediately! They are don't restrict movement. They are even comfy just to lounge around it. My only complaint is they are NOT the most quiet pants. I don't necessarily care but I know some really focus on some details like that.
Ive been using my new De Havilland pants, for five days hunting in a big California coastal chaparral burn with steep terrain, The pants are unbelievably tough but stretch in all of the right places , hot weather ? No problem ,the zippered ventilation works fast, strong fabric and durable zippers, but not heavy , great design! Already recommended to a new hunter I am mentoring his first late season Colorado Elk hunt
used on Backcountry deer hunt, worked great, when carrying 100lbs out uncomfortable pinch under waistbelt of pack from triple stitch area of pants belt loop, 3 out of 4 cord loops for side zipper fell off and lost, good water repellent finish, side zip vents are awesome for steep mountain use and temp control
Comfort was really good, nothing tight but nothing loose, just a great fit. Only thing that was a little off for me is how loud they are. Every twig, leaf, anything you are carrying or even just the pant legs hitting each other, seems loud. But they are durable! Material heals up great in a lot of different conditions and they are easy to control temp with the vents. Guys at Stone Glacier were awesome to talked to and helped me out a ton when I bought the wrong size by accident. Turn around time was great.
I just got to use these pants for the first time this Labor Day weekend on an archery hunt. The pants were very durable and tough. I love the flexibility. My favorite part of the pants was the ability to vent on the sides to keep my legs as cool as possible.
I recently used these while hunting early season black tail in the Tahoe National Forest. The fit was perfect, pants were comfortable, really like the ability to dump the heat out through the side zipper, great stretch, and water wicks off nicely. Great product.
Wore these sheep hunting in AK. Nice material, love the side vents and fit. The fly is a bit awkward and stiff feeling. Would recommend slight reinforcement of the knees (1 cm rip first time wearing them with simple kneeling on scree to glass the ridgeline), as well as reinforcement of the inner cuff of the pant bottoms where it’s a bit loose and it’s easy to catch the opposite boot tread (which could be sketchy and cause a trip on steep terrain).
I have yet to put them to the test, but immediately after opening you can tell the effort that went into these pants. The ventilation system is the main reason for purchase and it does not disappoint. Can't wait to test them out this elk season.
I have them ready to go for three hunts; Utah, Colorado and Idaho. Haven’t done anything other than try them on, but if they are anywhere close to the quality and functionality of my Stone Glacier pack then everything should be perfect. I’ll let you know after the 2020 hunting season..
I’ve used the de havilland pants of two spring gear hunts. They are by far the best one I’ve used. Highly breathable with the long side zip. Great fit and love the belt design. I’ll be buying a couple more pairs! Keep it up SG 💪
Awesome for Adirondack hunting. Warm, quiet. Side zips shed heat perfectly. Used approximately 100 days a year. Able to layer and fitndoen pants underneath on below zero temp days. Fully reccomend fhese pants.
These pants are exactly what I would expect from a company that makes the best pack I’ve ever had on my back. The overall quality of the pants couldn’t be better. The comfort of these is unmatched by any other hunting pant I have ever tried on. But the most impressive thing is the fit design. The adjustable zip is absolutely ingenious. I’ve struggled my hole hunting career finding a pant this versatile. Being able to adjust the waist from when I’m scouting in the late summer with nothing under them to layering up on those late hunts is priceless. To combat this in the past I had to have 2 pairs of pants. So at their price that really cheap to have 3 quality pairs of pants.
I love them. I love the zips. That cool air has been helpful on my rocks. Some small dings. They are noticeably heavier than their competitors. That being said good zippers are heavy. They are true to size. If you're a 32.5 then 32s are going to be snug. I lost a zipper pull on day 2. Presumably it was improperly attached and missed qc.
I hesitated to buy the De Havilland pants. Too expensive, I thought. Those high zips? When will I ever use them? After my first backcountry trip in them, I had my answerS. The pants performed flawlessly in every respect. Absolute comfort under a pack. They shed water and mud equally, even during creek crossings in the runoff. A bit noisy, should I opt to nitpick, but it’s a flaw easily overcome with a bit of care in my movement. On my return, the pants looked good as new, ready for my next trip scouting elk on the Front. . I’d buy these again in a heartbeat, but I can’t for the life of me think why I would need a duplicate in my kit. And as for those thigh vents And when I would use them? Constantly. They’re the feature I never knew I needed.
Even during this covid pandemic my order was quickly processed. I can’t say that about every company. I really appreciated that. The pants are incredibly comfortable and well thought out. I will definitely be buying at least another pair of these pants.
The only problem with anything is the sizing, your size chart is not accurate. I wear a size 38 in some pants and 40 in other brands. The ones I ordered say adjustable from 37-41 so I thought they would be perfect. However they are very tight.
