A dry pack with dry contents is good. But, when it's pouring rain, you want to keep your back panel and head dry, too. For such occasions, a HOODED PACK FLY is really good. Light and compact - stows in itself-contained storage pouch.

No Drips
I own a backpacking poncho that covers me and my Mystery Ranch Glacier Pack. What I don't like is I sweaty easily and get just as wet with it on vs just walking through the rain. I have tried just a pack cover, but the water drips down my back between the pack. The Hooded Pack Fly does not allow the water from dripping down my back and I can stay cool enough to not drip with sweat. It has been a good solution for me. I recommend this hooded fly pack because of its design and quality of materials.

Keeps water off my back
Way better than other covers. The hood stops water from dipping in between your back and the pack.

Problem solved. Ignore the 2 star review guy...
Whelp, I hate reviews based on poor thought and experience, so I'm making a new review to counter a poorly executed 2 star review... so, there's a single, absolute trash two star review that says ...

"The fly is made with decent quality, but it’s a solution to a non existent problem. No need for a hood on the rain fly when your outer rain jacket\shell should already have one."

If you've ever had water get blown or come between your pack cover for more than 10 minutes, and your outer/body Gore-tex or whatever WP shell, and then had that water get into your bag from the back, thus soaking all your gear, ruining electronics, your PBJ sandwich, or even if you realise (just now) this could be a thing, you can see how misleading and really inappropriate this review is.

This product is as stated by the bad reviewer, "decent quality," for a non-existent problem. So, there you have it. Its good quality kit, for an obvious problem. Realistically and objectively, it's a quality solution for those of us that can identify problems with water winning our gear, or with more experience than a 10 second shower. Problem solved, problem staying solved.

Do your research and make a decision for yourself.

Exactly what I was looking for
I work in the outdoors wearing my Mystery Ranch Metcalf almost daily. This hooded rainfly is the perfect compromise for the afternoon showers that do not require full rain gear and you keep your pack dry at the same time.

Good quality. Pointless product.

Interesting take on the rain cover/poncho
I like this option as opposed to the full pack cover/poncho combination, especially when it's just a dreary day with drips from above. I like that it covers the space between the pack and my back. My only complaint is the hood pulls on my head, but that may just be my anatomy. I'd like a little more material for the hood to pull forward. The shoulder connections work great. I'd love to see an ultralight version since that's where I spend most of my time, but Mystery Ranch isn't focused on that segment so I'll keep this one for when I'm not as weight concious.
