I received this pack about a month ago and I have not been disappointed. The MR Pintler fits true and is extremely comfortable. I am happy that I decided to go with this pack over the Metcalf, the internal storage for organization is great. This pack is designed for day trips or it can be expanded to carry enough gear for 2-3 day hunts. I am looking forward to using the meat shelf this fall. You wont be disappointed.
I researched packs till my eyes bled. I finally settled on the MR Pintler and am extremely glad I did. Its everything I need and more. Construction is top notch with many features. Its very comfortable, easy to adjust with tons of room. Thank you for a great product!
I bought this about a month ago and was a little disappointed about the bag. It’s not as quiet as the video showed also for a $450 pack I’m surprised it didn’t even come with a rifle boot for the pack.
Use it archery hunting. Narrow enough to draw comfortably carry 1 or 2 days of goods and can always have plenty of room to get what ever I bring in with me and back straps and loins or a hind quarter out with me. Wish it stood up straight when I took it off and set in down and also wish it had a few more pockets but best pack I've owned. Adjustment and comfortbility is tops.
I fell in love with the Mystery Ranch brand in 2007 when I found out Mystery Ranch partnered with Camelbak to make the Trip zip. it was all mystery ranch that carried that bag! the quality, the design, the pockets, the retention straps. I have 2!!!! of these and they still look like I just bought them (I used one through my deployment to the Middle East for over 3 years and use the other for range days, which is a lot of use as it can carry an AR pistol folded). the painter is a 40L version of the trip zip from Camelbak so I was not expecting anything better until I tried the FRAME!!! this is the most comfortable frame I ever used! and I used heavy duty military bags for years, Arcteryx and Gregory for hiking long trails and climbing....arcteryx is the only one that comes close to this comfort and it will never be as durable AS this frame. I love it! bought the harness and used it to carry larger bags already with t5he same frame! im in love!
Received my new MR Pintler two weeks ago. Was immediately very impressed with it's very light weight and excellent construction. Have been doing two mile 5 am every other day hicks with 55 lbs of weights inside pack and am extremely pleased with the way it carries the weight. Cannot wait to use it in September for my 2 week backpack elk archery hunt. I have since sold all my other packs. I plan on purchasing the "cabinet " pack bag and will also be using this setup for Georgia deer hunting. Great product.
Love this bag. I waited months for it to come back in stock. The fit is perfect and I love how it carries weight. Lots of storage space and perfect little pockets and storage areas to keep things where you need them.
This pack is awesome. Would be the best day pack for hunting. I did end up returning it to get a slightly larger pack (Metcalf. This pack will not fit all essential overnight gear (sleeping bag, bivy sack, cooking stuff), but it would be great for scouting or a day trip into the mountains.
Due to the virus a have had plenty of a time to load this pack up and been on many day hikes with it, currently carrying around 40 lbs and this pack is so comfortable. This week I will be installing my tree stand and sticks and I am sure it will handle the loaded pack and my tree stand perfectly.
I looked at a lot of backpacks and this had what I needed. Love bag access. It opens wide and you can get to the bottom of the bag easily with out having to unload it. Love the rifle/bow attachment. Fully adjustable. Must have. For the price it's a little high compared to other similar brands bags. But I tried it on and knew this is the one.
After a few short pack trips, the Pintler has exceeded my expectations! Tons of room for a three day, two night trip. I haven’t used it for hunting yet, but excited to use the shelf this fall. Solid construction yet still light and plenty of room.
Just bought a pintler in sub alpine and couldn't be more pleased with it. This is my second MR pack my first was a metcalf. Quality and workmanship are second to none, period. Absolutely bomb proof frame with a comfortable waist belt and shoulder straps. Great bag material should hold up for years on tough Alberta elk mountain hunts.
1st time out with my Pintler. The pack was very adjustable and fit perfectly within minutes. Plenty of room for a day or two pack trip with several internal pockets to keep me organized. Zippers, straps and frame are all sturdy and well made! So far I love the pack and look forward to many, many trips to come. Thanks MR!
I bought the Pintler as a long day pack. The pack is as comfortable as I could ask for. The only reason I can’t rate this 5 stars is because there should be a “bag only” option for the full line up. I would love to be able to switch from day pack to long haul otherwise it’s an outstanding system.
Used this pack for a 9 day Colorado OTC elk hunt. The performance of this pack was truly exceptional. It is an extremely comfortable pack and carries weight well. If you are looking for a pack to hunt/camp out of for more than a couple days I would recommend a large pack with more capacity. The pack worked well for setting up 1-2 day spike camps but that pretty much maxed out it's capacity. Overall, it is an excellent pack.
I have the series before this which is the longbow and looking at my buddies Pintler they have fixed all the things I would have liked on my Longbow, including pockets on the outside and a place for the water bladder. I have taken this on overnight trips and if you are like me I by no means have the most lightweight or packable gear. My backpack is the most modern high quality piece I have... so far. Either way if we didn't have a larger pack if would have made things a little more difficult with just this pack, doable but mostly by strapping gear to load shelf or to the outside of the pack. If you have all the new lightweight gear you would probably be just fine. Now to the heavy stuff! I have packed gear and deer quarters on this without a problem as I was hoping. The real test came this year when I had a full daypack, then loaded two bone in front quarters and the head of a smaller bull elk. All I have to say is wow, with the side straps and load shelf you are able to tighten down the load to be basically attached to your back with no shifting or shaking of the load when moving. A HUGE difference then the older metal pack frames that we normally use which never really fit snug and shifted constantly. Pros: Very durable, strong, comfort both with and without heavy loads Cons: Storage gets tight for multiple days without complete backpacking gear setup
Used last week on a caribou hunt on Adak Island. DIY hunts on mountainous islands before the weather turns and drives the animals down into the valleys typically requires many hard miles before the harvest, and harder heavier miles after. This pack did well to pack in a simple overnight kit and rifle, but really outperformed when loaded with an entire boned out young bull. Two tips: 1. Make sure to size the torso correctly to ensure shoulders and waist share the load. 2. Get some large rubber bands and place adjacent to anything mounted on the hip belt (eg. range finder, knife, etc.), otherwise these items flop around whenever the belt is slack. Overall, Great pack. Look forward to many more hunts to come.
Bought this pack after a different brand failed on the second day of use. Shipping was fast and saved my archery elk hunt. I ended up using this pack to help haul out three bull elk in less than a week. Pack is still solid and like new. Cleans up easily. Enough room for an overnight trip. Bow attaches nicely. Thanks Mystery Ranch!
Bought this pack 1 week into archery season hauled three elk out after receiving pack. 80+ lbs each pack out this system is awesome no extra trips to get packs. Carries load as comfortably as you can make 80+ lbs be when in rough terrain.
I love this pack! Great size for Day hunts or Ultralight Backcountry hunting for a few days. The fit is spectacular. Overall great features and layout. A couple nit-picky things I would like to see in the future. The side pockets could use some more volume. It is hard to cram things in once the pack is full. the stretch material accommodates some but the patterning of the nylon could be increased to allow for larger items (water bottle, bugle tube) to be stowed more easily when the pack is full. Not having Molle on the waist belt is a bit of a miss. It would be a great spot to customize with either a water bottle or quick access Bugle tube holder. I wish it had more of a Metcalf style top pocket with the double zippers. The one large compartment gets crowded and having a double pocket would help organize smaller items. Interior wise, I wish the accessory pockets were higher for easier access. It would also be nice to have a flat pocket on the backside of the lid. None of this would ever stop me from buying the pack again. Just some ways to improve an already great pack. Now if I could just get a Metcalf Bag only I'd be set for some bigger trips
I purchases just prior to Archery Elk hunt. I ordered a small and this pack fit perfect. It was very comfortable and form fitting. I was able to fit my essentials plus more into the pack. It has internal pockets which was a good way to separate items. I love this pack!!
I bought this pack recently, really love the suspension system and adjustability of the pack. It rides very well and is very easy to open an grab what you need quickly. My bow straps right in without a fight. The load out system is a revolutionary way of combining a pack frame and day pack. It really is a great pack that is easy to hike with, the only flaw I had with this back was with the belt, I wish there was Molle or a more secure belt strap, I tried to strap my sidearm and knife to the pack as well as a small little pouche on the opposite side for quick access to a headlamp and everytime I unclip the belt the strap will gain slack and anything attached will dangle and you have to tighten the belt very tight to make sure whatever is strapped to the belt is secure. Other than that the pack is very great and I highly recommend it to anybody looking for a quite archery day pack with a lot of customization.
I bought this pack after trying on my friends metcalf. I did not need as big if a pack as him. This pack is awesome for day trips or an overnight trip. If you have a big spotter like the BTX it fits perfectly inside the pack in one of the sleeves with a protective case on, the only pack i have found that can accomidate it. The pack fits great and stays in place even with a load.
I finally pulled the trigger and bought the pack after much research and deliberation. The pack sits and rides well when hiking and shooting my bow. I hardly knew it was there. It’s not really big enough for an over night hunt but plan on using it as a day pack this archery. Wish it had more outside pockets.
Haven’t extensively used the pack yet, but just for sizing reference I’m 6’5 with a 34 inch waist, and ordered the medium. The yoke has plenty of adjustment and fits me perfectly. The sizing on the site is pretty accurate. If your waist is any bigger I would go a size up just to leave room for layering etc. Overall pack seems very well constructed and carry’s heavy loads like their nothing.
i got this pack for my backcountry idaho elk hunt last fall.....and lucky enough to bring a nice bull home...the load hauling system work solidly and is ready to go out again soon....all the buckles, zippers, straps, and fabric are bomber for the backcountry....
I am preparing for a hunt out west and needed a good pack for day trip into the mountains. I was torn between Mystery Ranch and the EXO packs, after doing a bunch of research and watching a number of YouTube videos of people comparing packs of different manufactures I decided on the Pintler. I am blown away at the thought and detail put into this pack. I have adjusted it and played around with it but have yet to really put weight in it and walk. I'm confident based on the design and layout of this pack that I will be grateful for going with Mystery Ranch!
This is my first purchase from MR. I bought it for day trips as well as 2-3 night pack archery elk and mule deer coming up in MT. First thing I did was pack out my double bull blind out for WI Spring Youth Turkey Season and it carried the blind/chairs so well in the meat shelf portion and still have room in the bag for decoys. I am 5’9” and 165 lbs and the small gram fit me perfect. Can’t wait to use it for some long hikes. MR is the best!
I have been searching for years for a pack that fit me like it was designed just for me. The womens Pintler hit the mark. Multiple sizes with so much adjustability allowed me to get it perfect. I'm 5'8" with a long torso and narrow shoulders and a small waist. Everything until now was too big in the waist and too wide at the shoulders. The womens yoke with curved straps is an awesome upgrade for a womens specific pack!
This is a very well made pack and I like it a lot. I was disappointed that there aren't molle attachments on the waist belt or anywhere else on the pack. I talked to mystery ranch and they were awesome. They helped me get a sleeve for the waist belt with molle webbing on it. Overall an awesome pack.
Worth a hard look and test drive. The design and carry-ability are superb.
I'm 68 years "young". Over the years I've tried a variety of "extended" day hunting packs from various manufacturers that are capable of hauling loads in and out of the backcountry. From my 60's vintage Kelty frame thru the last 4 seasons using Kuiu's Ultra, I've tried them all. Being a user and abuser of Kletterworks and Dana Designs packs, and Mystery Ranch's fire line gear it was a no brainer to give the Pintler pack a try. This fall, after hauling a 6-gallon cubie of water on the Ultra frame into a dry camp in the Idaho backcountry I knew I had to make a change. Not that other packs are poorly thought out, but I came to a conclusion...I needed a pack and frame that provided a sturdier, better-balanced structure; a more robust support system; and tougher manufacturing standards (buckles, material, and stitching). So, I purchased the Pintler and test drove it during the Montana big game season. Glad I did. This'll be the last day/bivy hunt pack I'll own.
This pack performs flawlessly. It is as advertised; a moderately sized do it all hunting pack that can haul out the heaviest load you can handle. Last season, I carried out an entire quartered mule deer over steep terrain with this pack. The pack did it without complaint. My legs on the other hand thought it was a questionable idea. The frame distributes weight well, and doesn't dig into your shoulders or hips. The best part is that you don't need to shuffle your gear around to fit quarters in the pack, the pack transforms to secure them to the frame, where the weight is best placed. I tried the same move the previous season with a different pack, not designed for the purpose, and it was a suffer-fest. This is the pack I was looking for, for years. It is an amazing piece of equipment. You will not be disappointed. Mystery Ranch builds these packs to last forever and take some serious abuse in the field.
With years of abuse on my aging body, I upgraded from Badlands to the MR Pintler last year. The fit, design and comfort are excellent, as is the load shelf. I can haul an entire deer out in one trip with the Pintler pack design, and more comfortably than with my old pack frame. I liked it so much that I purchased the MR Scree for light duty hiking and fishing trips. MR fan for life.
