Nikon RangeX Rangefinder Review 11/3/2018
I purchased Nikon’s RangeX specifically for Antelope hunting in/near Wyoming’s Big Horn Mountains during a recent hunt. The only other rangefinder to which I can compare the X model is a Nikon Acculon, so I can’t say whether the X is better or worse than another manufacturer’s device. What I can say is the RangeX worked well for my purpose and certainly better than the Acculon. The Acculon works fine where one doesn’t need to range much beyond a couple hundred yds. But, my experience was huntable Pronghorn are much further when first spotted. I used the X over a 13 day period during a wide variety of atmospheric, weather and lighting conditions. These conditions varied from snow, to rain, to dust, to early morning, at dusk and bright, clear days. The X always worked best with clear atmospheric conditions in good lighting, but it worked well, except when snowing and when snow was on the ground. I guess it’s the nature of the beast so to speak. During my hunt I ranged an individual Antelope out to 808 yards and small group of them at 1082 yds. However, it should be noted during the times those measurements were taken atmospheric conditions were apparently very good for such purposes. For curiosity’s sake ranged a common cow at 1400 yds. and many individual Pronghorn beyond 700 yds. I did not attempt to range buildings, stop signs or other highly reflective surfaces at or near the stated ranging limits of the X. My purpose was hunting and that’s how I used the device. I’ve been a Nikon fan for many years and am not a long range shooter. My objective was to be able to get distances for stalking and shooting within my personal shooting distance limits. This product worked for me and I would recommend it to other hunters for purposes and distances as stated in this commentary.

Tops on the bench!
During an outing with three clients, prairie dogs, I broke out my Black RangeX 4K to do some comparison. I was curious to see how my range finder would compare to a couple of the big names. After a number of runs with each of us trying our respective products it was evident to all that the Nikon was tops. The shooters put away their finders and relied solely on the RangeX for the rest of their shoot. The RangeX provided consistent accurate readings when theirs would not. Talking to my customers later I was informed that two of the three purchased RangeX finders on the way home and that the store only had two or the third man would have taken one home as well. A heads up, you do need a good rest to stabilize for those long range reads but that is to be expected.

Very impressed with the size, speed and clarity. I have ranged over 4k. The scan mode blew my mind on how fast it read back to me. Easy to handle and operated. If you are looking for a big bang for your buck 4k in my opinion is it.

Amazing Rangefinder at a fraction of the cost!
Picked one of these up at a competition here in Washington State. I had my heart set on a Sig Kilo 2200 at the time since all my buddy's have one. I picked it up with a open mind and was thoroughly surprized. Now when we go to the range or a competition the Nikon Range X 4K is our go to rangefinder. It has a extremely fast response time with amazing clarity not to mention the ridiculous amount of distance this thing is capable of. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone. With super easy to use features reaching distances out to 4085 yds (so far) you cant go wrong.
