At a hundred bucks you can expect some midrange optics, and these Nocs Provisions Standard Issue exceed that expectation nicely.\n\nA 25mm objective isn’t especially huge, and in general that means you trade off vibrance, brightness, and contrast as you go up in magnification. Here I’m not seeing any meaningful dimming in daylight, and details on distant objects are clear and well-illuminated. There’s no notable barrel distortion at the center or edge, and while there’s a tiny bit of aberration just at the very edge of the view, it’s something you’ll have to look for to really notice.\n\nThe wide exit-pupil — Nocs says it’s 7mm — makes it very easy to get these binoculars aligned for optimal viewing at your eyes, and when you’re in the zone, there’s no fringe or “tunnel effect” either on the inside or outside edges of the view.\n\nThe diopter adjustment is simple enough to do, and the diopter ring itself is stiff enough to hold the setting you make, without (probably) being knocked off true by a casual grab near the right eyecup. The center focus knob turns smoothly with enough resistance to allow precision focus, and to maintain it once you’re there. The twist-up eyecups, I suppose, make it easier to use the binoculars with/out glasses. I’m an eyeglass wearer, but not when I use binoculars; that’s what the diopter is for, after all.\n\nThe construction feels sturdy, and the binoculars are heavier than I expected, in a good way. Rather than a toy, they feel substantial and solid, but not so heavy that they’re a burden or hard to hold steady. The ribbed surface gives an intriguing texture, and I don’t imagine it’d be easy to lose one’s grip on them, even with gloves on.\n\nI keep marveling most at the optical quality, though. For the view I’m getting through these binoculars, I’d expect to pay upwards of three times as much, or more.
