Turkey hunting equipment has evolved over the years, especially in the decoy department, and vests for the most part have failed to keep up in this area. Today's preferred decoys are rugged, realistic, and non-collapsible. Lugging them around can be a challenge for a run-and-gun hunter because they just won't fit in a vest. I usually carry 2 DSD hens with me and any pack I use for turkey hunting must be able to accommodate them. This vest does. I can put one in the game bag and strap it in securely. The other one goes between the padded seat and the back of the vest and can also be synched down tight. That was a HUGE selling point for me! Of course, I didn't know this before I actually bought the vest and tried to put the decoys in it but I didn't step out the door to hunt in it before I knew it would work. Otherwise, it would have been sent back. NOTE TO NOMAD: Show people this decoy carrying configuration - they want to know.
Overall, the vest is well made and well thought out. It has way more pockets than I have a need for but one, the extra long box call pocket, is a life saver. I grew up in the Missouri Ozarks, home of the Fence Post and Boat Paddle styles of box calls, and those dudes won't fit in a normal box call pocket. Now I can safely tuck my David Ferguson call in a pocket, without any of it sticking out, and call it good. I wish the pocket was on the front of the vest but it's certainly better than nothing.
I would have given this vest 5 stars but I don't want Nomad to get the big head. They still have work to do...
I love this vest. Every pocket is extremely accessible. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is for the sunglasses pocket at the top back of the vest. It adds an unnecessary pressure point when leaned up against a tree. Other than that, it’s a fantastic vest. Love the hidden no tree system. Unlike other vests that use an aluminum frame to give you support without a tree, this one can do it without one. Love it
I chose this as my first turkey vest ever. Looks to be quite durable. Pot calls pockets are snug really protecting them. When tightened all the way up, there are quite a few excess straps that need cutting. Very comfortable stadium seat and cushion. A tad bit heavy but doesn’t bother me. I’ll be sweating anyway from the adrenaline of hearing turkeys. Haha. Can’t wait to go to the field next week. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a vest.
Enjoying the vest so far. Took the padded seat off and relying on the stadium style seat which has worked great so far. The adjustability is great, but it will leave you with a lot of excess straps hanging off. Doesn’t interfere but just something to be mindful of. The design has turkey hunters in mind and checks the boxes for me. One downside is it does get hot on your back but that’s a fair trade off for the stadium seat and built in back supports. I would buy this vest again.
So far I like the vest. Things i wish could be done is a removal Sunglasses case and the mouth call pockets a lil deeper. I have only used the vest for two hunts. We will see how well it holds up. I would give it a 4 star at the moment. Definitely has enough pockets.
Fits pretty much everything I need. Super comfortable. Tons of pockets and the straps feel great. Holds a decoy easily. I have not field tested this yet but will be giving it a shot this weekend. Feels great in my hands. Strong and durable. So far I give it an A+
Best vest around! The pockets are perfect for all my pot calls, box call, mouth calls and accessories. Plenty of room for one of my avian decoys and other necessities, great camo/fabric, and great seat. The only thing I wish was different are the plastic buckles. Although they are sturdy and will most likely last quite awhile, plastic buckles always end up getting stepped on and broken so metal would've been worth the slight additional weight in my opinion. Size is more suited for mid to larger bodies. I'm 170 lbs, 6 ft and the fit is great but I have everything tightened all the way down so if I were much smaller it would be a little big
I like the vest but quickly noticed it is quite noisy when trying to slightly adjust your shooting position while both using the camp chair feature and leaning against a tree. This is a problem as most of my shots on a turkey are within 30 yards due to the thick forest habitat I hunt in South Alabama. I am hoping the almost squeezing and heavy friction rub sounds will go away soon. The eyeglass pouch seems very gimmicky. I am not real sure putting an it on the back of the vest was very smart as glasses will almost certainly be smashed when leaning against a pine tree. I also don’t see a need for stored glasses while hunting anyway. The friction call pockets are certainly an improvement over the MG vest, which I own in Bottomland and Greenleaf . The striker storage is an improvement also. I hope you will offer it in bottomland next spring.
Great vest. Needs water bottle straps to keep them secure. Everything else is spot on. Great for run and gun and setting up on that old Tom that just won’t cooperate. I’m very rough on equipment but this vest is well made and should carry out birds for many years.
Great vest but it was too large for my small frame. Had excellent features and was well designed and well made. Due to the large size, I replaced it with the Pursuit Convertible vest that fit me much better.
