Almost perfect
There is so much good about this pack and then there is the sleeve that holds the hydration bag and the clip that holds it from falling into the sleeve. IMO - major fail . Getting the bladder into the sleeve full is nearly impossible and filling it while in the pack is really no better. After that task is complete getting the hook clasped on the bladder is nothing short of maddening. How this design made it through Osprey's trial is baffling to me and could ultimately find it hard to recommend an otherwise great pack . Why Osprey? Why?

Perfect for Wherever You Want to Go
Awesome bag. Bought this bag as a replacement/upgrade from an old, heavy day pack I had had for many years. I'm so glad I did and won't look back. I consider myself a regular - if not avid - outdoors person and am kicking myself that I didn't invest in a bag like this sooner.

This bag has all the right things going for it. It is just the right size for long day trips in varying conditions and has just enough pockets and stash spots for all your gear. I love the addition of hip belt pockets on a bag of this size. This isn't a book bag, so there are no pen pockets, computer sleeves or the like. Instead, the storage is thoughtful and useful with no weird dead spots or extra tuckaways that will remain forever empty.

In addition to the right capacity and storage, this bag benefits from features that take this bag from day hiker to ultralight overnight hiker. In addition to the super-comfy and stabilizing hip band, this bag sports side cinches that can stabilize a light to moderate load. Simply outstanding - not many bags in this class have such a feature.

Additionally, the thing is just comfortable. Keeping with the light and fast theme, the padding on hip belt, back surface, and shoulder straps are just right. Though it appears thinner than the cushy, squishy shoulder straps of yesteryear, Osprey did some magic with the comfort they were able to tease out of the lightweight padding on this. Don't underestimate the comfort. I've used this pack for many miles with several different load-outs, and it's never rubbed, chafed, or produced a hot spot. Superb.

Lastly, there are several small touches that add a good bit of versatility: The on-the-go trekking pole holder works well and the helmet-holder is awesome. I haven't used the ice axe attachment, but it's there. The zippers are bomber and the pulls are perfect. Can't quite get to the zipper with the bag on your back? Stick one finger in the dongle and viola! I also appreciate the super-minimalist top strap.

Almost Perfect But Hydration Sleeve ruins it
This pack has it all. Looks good, lightweight, plenty of storage and attachments for hiking poles. However the biggest failure on this pack is the hydration sleeve. It is almost impossible to get a hydration bladder (osprey 2.5l fyi) into it. In fact the only way i could manage was to completely empty the pack, and even then i risked bursting the hydration bladder, just to get it in. This is an extreme oversight and for any real hiker its a deal killer. I need to be able to fill and refill the bladder quite often and the fact that i cant easily do this means its unusable to me. Shame...

Pack is great and one of the most popular and highly rated day packs out there.

Removal of star for Scheels as last year's model colors shown. Pack I got was current year and all black.

Perfect Daypack With Discoloration
This is a review on last year's Talon 22, because now I feel I can comment on durability after usage. I work in forestry and used this pack for 7 months every day at work. The pack held up to thorn bushes and some intense bushwhacking, and was able to clean off well. This pack has also been perfect for a day pack hiking and even backcountry skiing in a pinch, and it is able to accommodate a shovel, probe, layers, and skins, etc. As a female with narrow hips who has struggled to find a pack that rests well with a hip belt, I decided to try out the mens Talon and I couldn't be happier. I think gender specific sizing helps an average purchaser, but don't limit yourself to a gendered gear item when the perfect fit could be in another place (even the kids section for any petite people out there). One con is that the colors faded after a few months in sections from "Ultramarine Blue" to a teal color as pictured. Still 5 stars because function is not impeded.

Great Pack!
This is a great day pack! I use it for short and long day hikes with my kids. I also load it up with goodies to keep my boys occupied during baseball practice. This is also a great mountain biking pack, I use it on the trails 1-2 times per week and it fits great and it's super light.

Could be better, but I'll give it 5 stars.
I decided to buy this new model of the Talon 22 after watching several review videos of the old model and I don't really think that this is an improvement. I haven't used or handled the old model so I cannot speak from personal experience. It does seem like the old shoulder padding was better. Another reviewer commented that the material doesn't seem to be of the same quality. Maybe it's not, but it still feels and looks good to me. The size of the pack is perfect for day hiking or biking and could be used for hammock camping a night or two. The top load water bladder insert is a PITA especially with a full 3L bladder, but is workable. I wish that the outer pouch pocket was fully closable. There are no longer plastic clips on the shoulder pads to clip things on, though you could use the elastic straps. The 2 inner stash zippered pockets are really too small. I really wish there was another larger zip of velcro pocket on the inside and maybe some elastic loops. As I am writing this review I am wondering why I don't change my rating to 4 stars. Frankly, my complaints are mostly minor issues and I will be using this pack until it falls apart. As I have been using this pack, I have been adapting it to my needs

Your Workhorse Pack
I love this pack. It carries just the right volume for a solid day hike, it's lightweight, and the features operate very smoothly. The stash pocket is always great. Only con: if you use two trekking poles, the stow on the go holder is a little uncomfortable, but every body shape is different. Pole straps on the outside of the pack would be helpful. But if you're using only one pole, the stow-on-the-go is unbeatable

Great hiking day pack
Great day pack that has many layers to it, adjustable, comfortable, breathable, and light. Also has a nice feature to strap hiking poles in a way they don't dangle down. Water pockets are small, but main area can be used for bottles and has section for a bladder.

Incredibly useful multisport pack
I have worn this pack almost everyday for 5 months now on guided hikes and bikes. It is truly one of the most well thought out packs I have ever used. The pocket configuration is simple yet very clever. All the heavy contents stay against your back making it very stable. The outside pockets are useful for tons of different gear. The lidlock is one of the best additions to a pack I've ever seen. I've used it for my climbing helmet and bike helmet. The harness is very comfy for biking and hiking with great hipbelt pockets. I am 5'9" 150lbs athletic build and the small/medium fits perfectly.
