I used these reels hard bottom fishing for snapper, grouper, AJ's and by catch 6 to 10 foot sharks. I never had a problem with them that proper cleaning and a little maintenance wouldn't cure. But I'm a belt and suspenders guy, so I always have a few common parts and a backup rig handy just in case I have a reel quit on me. So far I haven't had to use the backup rig but once or twice. Apart from an occasional part failure most of the problems encountered are of my own doing.
