They reliably work for about 5 months, then start to fail intermittently before completely dying. Company seems to have a 30 day return policy, but for a $100+ dog collar, I would expect at least a year out of it. This is the best inground system that we have found. The only problem is they are not quite durable enough. I have two German shepherds and one of them swims in our pond a lot. Her collar gets water in it from time to time and I have had to replace it. I think the problem is that when changing the battery, the plastic border around the inside of the collar brakes, this area is very thin plastic. If you could be that up, I don’t think I would have any more issues. We have lost the clear screw cap off of the front and that may have let water in one of the collars also. So I just ordered another replacement for my water dog. I have now had three of them which just begin to randomly shock dogs wherever they are inside the fence. I have every have called about one of them and they were good to replace it I wish that there was another option that was safer for my pets. Back then, the receivers would last 5-10 years easily (I have multiple dogs). Quality back then was top notch. \r\nQuality has progressively declined in recent years, to the point that they MIGHT last 2 years. The plastic INSIDE the housing deteriorates and crumbles, ruining the seal and allowing moisture to enter. \r\n\r\nAfter hearing my dog cry out inexplicably today (nowhere near the fence), and checking the collar, it is clearly unsealed and malfunctioning. This is the last straw. \r\n\r\nI have replaced $90 collars as if they're disposable but I will not tolerate a collar that randomly tortures my dogs. \r\n\r\nI see from other reviews that I'm not the only one who's had this problem. Your company will be out of business if you continue to sell poor quality. Sure, you'll sell more collars short term, but you destroy your customer base long term. The stubborn dog receiver worked great. I like that it has a louder audible notice (beep) before the correction activates. The others just ticked before correction. The only problem I have with all receivers is that I can't set the range more than 6-8 feet from fence because the overhead power line will activate the collar thus preventing the dog from getting from one side of the yard to the other. However the Stubborn dog collar helps with this because of it's loud beep then correction which seems to activate quicker than the others.
