Very pleased with the purchase of this reel. The reel is super smooth to cast and retrieve braided line. My son is 9 and loves fishing he thinks the world of this reel, we have been fishing with this reel 8 times with it since the 1 month ago purchasing. The drag is super easy to set! I usual purchase diawa reels this is the first pflueger purchase ever and I’m so impressed with this reel I’m ordering another pflueger.
This reel is light and has a great feel. After using in fresh water for bass fishing, when reeling the handle has a grinding/resisting feeling when reeling. I’ve owned many other reels for much longer and never have had this problem.
Bought this a year ago. I decided to take it apart to clean and re oil/grease it. I screwed something up. (my fault) and couldn't put it back together correctly and I thought I lost pieces. Sent it to their shop and they double checked my oil/greasing job and put it back together. The lady that called me to tell me it was done said they didn't even charge me for the extra few parts I damaged. Things like their customer service and quality products has me loyal to their brand. I justified buying this expensive reel (about $150 before tax) because I will send it to them yearly in November (when I rarely fish) to professionally clean and lubricate my reel. Its only about $6 to ship it to them and my repair and clean and lube was $26 which included shipping back to me. I do wish they had an extra reel that came with it. That seems to be a big thing that a lot of people comment on. Especially with the higher end reels.
Several yrs ago I needed a New reel and I wanted to stay in the $50 to $100 range and I was recommended the Pflueger President I read several reviews and it had pretty much nothing but positive thing said about it so I baught one it has been phenomenal for the price point, So I decided to step up my game and got the Pflueger Supreme XT with a Fenwick HGM Rod it has been a phenomenal reel as well with no complaints!
The thing I like about the supreme is the response- it is geared so tight that drag responds effortlessly and instantly with no let down. We fought 10 pounders with a size 30 and it was way up to the task. And it is comfortable and good looking to boot.
I got two matching Supreme XT's to set up my new jigging rods. I went to Cabela's and checked out the Abu's and the Supreme XT's. You can feel the difference in quality in my opinion and I'm VERY happy! Thank you Pflueger!
I have had this reel ffor about 2 years and for the first year it was pretty good but the bail arms are really cheap, i'm on my third one now and now my bail spring is bad. If you are not fishing in Salt water the regular Supreme isn't a bad reel. The xt for $150 I think there are better values out there.
Ive owned "lower priced" shimano reels my whole life and decided to splurge and get something a bit pricier. I chose the Supreme XT based on its lightweight and smooth reeling. Was immediately impressed by how light it was when I first started using it. However, i noticed that the line was occasionally getting stuck in the between the line roller and bail control arm. This would jam up the reel and cause it to stop spinning/require a lot of effort to turn the handle. I was using 15lb power pro braid so i did not think the thickness was the issue. I also read to tighten the screw on the bail arm to close the gap. The problem persisted. I really wanted to keep this reel because of how light and smooth it was but the occasional jamming of the line was too frustrating. This is a problem i never had on lower-end shimano reels that were half the price. Reluctantly, I returned the reel as I could not justify paying the $200 price for a reel that jams this way. If Pflueger fixes this gap between the line roller and bail arm i believe this reel could be awesome, but until then, it left me disappointed.
The Supreme XT replaced the 9230XT model. I'm not sure if the issue has been fixed on the Supreme XT model, but the handle assembly looks the same in the photo. The original handle assembly failed two years after purchase and then replacement (OE handle didn't even last one season. Because the reel is no longer under warranty the replacement parts have no warranty. If it wasn't for this issue the reel would be great. It would be great if Pflueger would own up to the design flaw issue on the reel and offer a fix. Given how this situation was handled by Pflueger, I would not purchase another.
I did a lot of searching a year ago for a quality reel that would also be very light, as I like to fish for long stretches. Based on specs, I decided to try this Pflueger design. As soon as I got it, I knew it would balance well on my various rods, and it proved to be exceptionally well made, so I bought a second one this year. I couldn't be happier with the way they work and feel.
I've had my SUPXT40 for about 3 years, with light use the past two. I've been able to get out more frequently for salmon fishing this past week, and today the handle broke as I was reeling. The axle that threads into the reel broke at the hole drilled for the hinge pin in the handle, ending my day. Upon inspection, the axle appears to be made of aluminum, and couldn't hold up to the stress placed on it over a short time. There is a lot of surface debris that washes around with the tides, and causes frequent snagged clumps of vegetation that place a lot of force on the line when trying to retrieve. Problem is, if you hook up on a heavyweight, the same thing may happen and you'll lose your trophy. While I think I will order a replacement handle, I think I need to find a more robust reel that can handle heavy retrievals better. Other than this issue, it performs well and has a very smooth and effortless action. I was really enjoying it until this happened.
I’ve been fly fishing for years and wanted to try fishing with spinners and lures to see what it’s all about. Got a new setup and picked up this reel based on lots of research. First cast, seriously, hooked into a weighty trout on the Rio Grande. Great! While reeling in, both bail screws came out and the whole bail flew off. Line everywhere, fish gone. Can’t believe it came so loosely assembled (Box was sealed). Now I’m waiting for replacement screws in the post :( reel looks like it’s pretty nice though. Hopefully I’ll get it rollin this week and try again... or accept defeat and stick to fly reels.
I have had this reel for a couple of years now and it is still as smooth as the day it came out of the box. I have caught many fish with this reel. The reason why I did not give it a five star is because the bail arm gets worn out quickly. The line cuts into the plastic an then cuts the line or the inability to continue the reeling sequence. My advice is to purchase about five arms. They are 2.75. My advice to the company is please design an arm out of metal or a fabric that will not allow line to easily cut the bail arm.
I bought this reel and shipped it to SO for a tournament I was fishing in. I chose this reel to use with Dropshot. I put 15lb Braid with a 12lb flour leader. I caught multiple 2-3 pound spotted bass and a 3lb largemouth. The drag was very smooth and In really like the 6.2 gear ratio for fast retrieves. I had never purchased one of these reels before but I certainly will be buying more. Great value for the money!!
I have been guiding in the Brainerd Lakes area sine 2004 and my customers always appreciate the quality of gear that I provide for them while fishing with me. Pflueger reels have always been a positive review from my many customers and they enjoy the smoothness of reeling in a big fish with confidence that it won't get away. Bobby G
I have four xt reels. I have caught northern pike, steelhead, brown trout(over ten lbs), koho salmon, largemouth, sheep head....! I have had no breakdowns and really work em hard. The only problem I have had is I over tightened the dust cover and had to replace it. I like my equipment to match and want to buy 10more of these reels! Great job at designing an amazing reel.
I recently purchased my Supreme XT in 30 size, and couldn't be happier with it. Plenty of bearings for smoothness, nice and solid, and light as a feather. Nice retrieve ratio, positive bail click, good thick bail wire which also helps contribute to general rotor rigidity, comfy handle grip, decent line capacity and smooth drag. Also, it could very well be the best-looking spinning reel ever built(?! I have Trilene XL 6lb monofilament on mine and it winds it perfectly and casts it like a dream. I use a seven-foot Fenwick Eagle Medium Light action rod, and it's smallmouth perfection. My wife and I own nine President series spinning reels in various sizes and a President XT casting reel, and they are all fantastic. The President spinning reels have given us great service for years, and with regular maintenance are as smooth as the day we bought them. I honestly can't see buying anything more expensive than the Supreme Series, there's just no point. It's pretty much as good as it gets. I used to be a Shimano acolyte, but they just don't cut it anymore. Pflueger is where the real value is, folks! Do yourselves a favour and check their line out, from top to bottom if you're in the market for new reels. There's true quality gear for everyone.
I bought this reel because I fish freshwater as well as saltwater. I use it for bass fishing and surf fishing. The drag is super smooth for the big fish and is very strong when you crank down on the drag. I just wish it came with an extra spool.
Just tried this reel out and it blows me away even in comparison to the pflueger president I have which I thought was amazing. Bought the size 30 supreme xt and put it on a fenwick elite tech river runner 5'8" and it's great. Already considering another larger one for my arsenal.
I own a 30 and love the feel. They are smoother and lighter than my Revos. The drag is a smidge louder than those other reels but that is hardly something to complain about. Everything works well with no surprises.
I have been a long time user of Pflueger reels and used many different models and absolutely love my Supreme XTs. They have the best drags, are lightweight, and butter smooth. I would highly recommend.
I love this reel. I bought two because it's the lightest and smoothest spinning reel I've owned. If you are having difficulty turning the crank randomly/occasionally and you are using braid such as Spider wire 15lb test, then it is likely the braid is getting caught on the inside of the line guide. Thin braided line can fit on the inside portion of the line guide or the part of the reel that holds and moves the line onto the reel. It took me a while to figure this out I thought it was mechanical(the handle or the spool, but it is simply the line becoming jammed into the inside portion of the line guide or whatever you call the part of the reel that holds the line as the reel wraps it around the spool.
bought a 30 xt two weeks ago used it in brackish water and it did fine one trip in the ocean and in developed rough spots my local shop replaced it and the next day i used it four hours in salt water and it almost completely locked up took it back and got a stradic really liked the product but my local shop said they don't like salt water
IM RETIRED NOW AND HAVE MORE TIME TO FISH AND ARMED WITH THIS REEL MATCHED TO A ST. CROIX AVID 7FT ROD LIFE IS GOOD ! BEST REEL I HAVE , WELL THEY ARE THE ONLY REELS I HAVE NOW . I HAVE TRIED JUST ABOUT ALL OF THE COMPETITORS ON THE MARKET AND THE ONLY ONE IN MY ARSENAL IS PFLUEGER !
Only had this reel a short time, used a few times & few fish. One large Jack Crevalle in the surf which it handled well. The handle did break, which was unfortunate, and I'm hoping was just a one-off deal--they happen. The reason I gave 5 stars is I contacted Pfleuger, they didn't make me send the reel in since it's summer and I want to fish, they just sent a replacement handle no problem--got it in a few days. Don't expect problems with it, have other Pflueger reels years and years old.
Purchase it, mated it with a fenwick lite weight rod, been fishing with it 4 weekends in a row, just can't stop, it's like the rod and reel were made for each other! I know l've made the perfect match.
