Nothing's cleaner greener or more flexible than a Platypus Softbottle .5L Bottle. Whether you're running an ultra-marathon waiting for a flight or hitting the yoga studio after work the SoftBottle is your source for hydration.
Platy's most flexible water bottle.
Lightweight and packable - 80% less weight and bulk than a hard bottle
Taste-free and BPA-free for clean drinking.
Food-grade liner with rugged exterior is pliable and durable.
The Platy SoftBottle is a wonderful product - durable, flexible and they pack down to nearly nothing when not in use. I put the 1.0L bottle in my ski jacket pocket and can't even tell its there while I'm skiing. The 2.0L is super handy when you're backpacking and can be a great tool for melting snow into drinking water if you're in a pinch. Better yet; if you loose the cap, a standard bottle cap off of a soda bottle will suffice. Two thumbs up!
I have several of the platypus soft bottles. Will buy more
The Soft Bottle .5 liter works out great for me. Usually I fill it about 3/4 full of water and freeze it. Then pack my cooler the next day using the bottle as my ice pack. As it thaws I have extra drinking water.
These are great ways to carry water, but are also invaluable as hot water bottles for your sleeping bag for winter camping, they can make great ice packs (snow and water mixed) for first aid situations, and they can act as travel pillows (fill them with air and wrap a buff or scarf around them for a pillow case). Really, really handy.
My only complaint and concern is the cap. ONLY use the simple screw-on cap. All of the easy pop-top caps seem to leak... badly, in my experience. These bottles are also great for carrying wine, scotch, tequila, and other spirits, but the flavors can imprint on the plastic. I have one bottle each for red, white, tequila, and whiskey, depending on what the picnic, back country trip, or event needs. Great for beach trips as they are not glass and fully reusable.
I was a big fan of Platypus. I had several bottles (different sizes). BUT no longer. My 2nd 0.5 liter bottle started leaking from the bottom within 22 days of use. The first one lasted more than 5 years and does not leak. Unfortunately, the quality may be going down or this was a lemon.
I needed a reusable bottle to take with me to the Peace Corps and bought this on a whim. It has been the best thing I have decided to take with me. During training, all of the other PCVs were fan-girling over it and even people in my community. It gets the job done. It is so light and durable and doesn't hold onto smells and tastes. And of course the best part is that it is flexible and almost all-together disappears when it is empty. I wish I had brought more than one with me.
