Care & Use Tips

Pre-Chill your Scheels Cooler: Before items are placed inside your cooler, pre-chill for a minimum of 4 hours ideally overnight before use.

Pre-Chill Cooler Options:

Purchase extra ice and let this sit in the cooler during pre-chilling. Discard pre-chilled ice and fill with fresh ice after loading contents.

You may also pre-chill with dry ice. Scheels coolers are dry ice approved. Using dry ice. (CO2) made from frozen carbon dioxide can help achieve an even lower cold temperature, without water residue. Be sure to handle dry ice with caution, always wear gloves, as it can quickly freeze overnight, if possible, for most ideal pre-chilling.

Pre-Chill Content Options:

Chill or freeze any goods before placing them in the cooler.

Maintain Super Cold Conditions in the Cooler Options:

  • Keep some melted ice water inside your cooler to help insulate the remaining ice better than open airspace.
  • Open lid as little as possible to help reduce adding warm outside air
  • Beware of the different ice properties: Block ice will melt slower than cube ice, but cube ice offers a larger total surface area to cool items faster. Using a mixture of both block and cube ice is suggested.
  • Start with very cold, solid ice rather than ice that is wet from melting.
  • Fill cooler with as much ice as possible to reduce empty air areas
  • Adding some dry ice to your ice mixture will help keep it colder longer. Remember to be careful and handle dry ice with gloves. Also allow for adequate ventilation for CO2 Gas
  • Top off your ice filled cooler with rock salt, which helps to naturally lower the melting point of water, keeping the insides extra cold.

Keeps Ice
I pre-chilled the cooler outside before deer season and then loaded it with about 30 lbs of ice, 2 cases of warm beer, and 3 12 packs of warm pop. We kept the cooler inside our hunting shack with the lid closed but not latched. The older hunters couldn't unlatch the stiff rubber t-handles (Hence 4 stars). 6 days later when we emptied it there was still ice floating in the cooler.

Not a good product!!
I do not recommend this cooler at all. The cheaper ones that we have purchased from Wal-Mart keep the ice longer. We purchased two bags of ice to refill the cooler. The drinks in the cooler were already cold and by the next night the ice was completely melted. The lid was kept cold, cooler kept under the camper awning, and it was only in the low 80's for the day. I don't normally write bad reviews but when you buy something at this price I would expect that it would work. It is also very heavy but we knew that when we purchased it.

Works good. Hasn’t been super warm yet. Took the ruler off because it didn’t stick on one end and ended up cutting my finger trying to put it back on. Just cosmetic. I didn’t need s ruler. Would reconnections anyone

Don’t waste your money
I’m very disappointed how the ice melts in this cooler! I used it for the first time this weekend in low 70 degree weather and went through 20 lbs of ice by in 1.5 days! My buddy has a yeti and 20 lbs of ice lasted 3 days for him. I’d return this product if I could!

I would buy again when on big sale.
Nice cooler, it was on sale. Rubber latches are very hard to latch and unlatch. Precooling is a must , it helps the ice last longer.

Left the cooler in Mexico
We took a week long boat trip in Baja and had 3 types of coolers. The cheapest cooler lasted only 36 hours with 6 bags of ice. The Scheel 75 lasted only 72 hours and the Otter Box 75 lasted all week. We pre-cooled all three and were so disappointed in the holding power of the Scheel 75 that we left it in Mexico rather than pay the extra bag fee to bring it back. If you are looking for a cooler with holding power, pick an Otter Box.
