Product Description

GameKing Bullets:
All bullets in this classification are for hunting and all have boat tails. Their shapes include hollow point boat tail (HPBT), spitzer boat tail (SBT), and full metal jacket boat tail (FMJBT). The bullets in this classification have medium to heavy weights in each caliber. With their boat tail shapes, they have high ballistic coefficients, retain their velocities well, and resist crosswinds and vertical winds well as they fly. These bullets are designed for a combination of penetration and expansion in medium and heavy game animals for their calibers.

Bullet Designs:
  • Hollow Point is a bullet shape used for the MatchKing bullets as well as a number of Varminter, GameKing and Pro-Hunter bullets for hunting. The Hollow Point shape has an opening in the nose, which depending on the use of the bullet, may be designed for complete fragmentation, controlled expansion, or no expansion at all (MatchKing). With the wide range of Hollow Point bullet performance capabilities, proper bullet selection for a particular use is crucial to ensure the desired performance in the field.
  • Spitzer is a term taken from a German word that means sharp pointed. The spitzer shape is readily identified by a characteristic long ogive point shape closing with either a small diameter exposed lead tip or with the proprietary compound tips in Sierra's BlitzKing bullets. Spitzer bullets may have either a flat base or a boat tail and have much higher ballistic coefficients compared to the traditional round nose or flat nose bullet shapes. The spitzer shape with either a flat base or a boat tail has become the "standard" for hunting bullets today.
  • Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) bullets are easily recognized by the jacket, which covers the entire bullet forward of the base with only a small amount of exposed lead at the base. Sierra's FMJ bullets also have the boat tail configuration. When used at reduced velocities, Sierra's FMJ bullets are nonexpanding in light game, and often are an ideal choice for varmint or predator hunters wishing to minimize pelt damage. FMJ bullets also allow hand loaders to effectively duplicate 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm ball ammunition for use in military style rifles.
  • Boat Tail bullets have a smaller diameter base, a shape resembling the configuration of the stern of a sailboat. This shape significantly reduces the base drag on a bullet, giving boat tail bullets a significantly higher ballistic coefficient than flat base bullets of the same weight and point shape. Thus, boat tail bullets have lower sensitivity to crosswinds, higher retained velocity downrange, flatter trajectories, and higher energy and momentum delivered to the target than their flat base counterparts.
Caliber Specs:

.22 Caliber 55 Gr. HPBT:
  • UPC: 09276301390
  • Part #: 1390
  • Diameter: 0.224"
  • Sectional Density: 0.157
  • Ballistic Coefficients and Velocity Ranges: 0.185 @ 2800 fps and above. 0.189 between 2800 and 1800 fps. 0.193 @ 1800 fps and below
  • For rifles, the 55 grain #1390 Hollow Point Boat Tail bullet has been designed for the shooter who prefers the rapid expansion characteristics of the hollow point design. This bullet delivers devastating expansion on varmints and small game, and in many rifles it routinely delivers match-grade accuracy, which are vital considerations for long-range varmint shooting. The large, open point makes this a very dependable bullet for all 22 centerfire cartridges, except the very smallest where case capacity limits muzzle velocities with 55 grain bullets.
  • In handguns, this Hollow Point Boat Tail 55 grain #1390 bullet with its cavernous opening can be used for short-range varmint shooting in handguns chambering the 223 Remington or larger cartridges. This bullet is built with Sierra's high velocity design and is capable of extremely high accuracy.
  • The #1390 was introduced in 1984.

  • Part #: 1560
  • Diameter: 0.243
  • Sectional Density: 0.242
  • Ballistic Coefficients and Velocity Ranges: 0.430 @ 2800 fps and above. 0.419 between 2800 and 2200 fps. 0.397 between 2200 and 1700 fps. 0.385 @ 1700 fps and below.
  • In rifles, this 100 grain #1560 Spitzer Boat Tail bullet with a heavy, double-tapered jacket ensures adequate penetration with reliable expansion on medium game. It is the boat tail counterpart to the flatbase #1540 Pro-Hunter bullet, but when ranges exceed 300 yards, the #1560 bullet is the choice for best downrange performance. This bullet is exceptionally accurate, and it may be used in 6mm cartridges, such as the 243 Winchester, 6mm Remington and magnums. It also is a very fine bullet for larger varmints at long ranges.
  • For handguns, the 100 grain #1560 Spitzer Boat Tail bullet is too "hard" for use in the field on game, because it will not expand adequately at the moderate velocities attainable from all cartridges except the largest wildcats. This bullet will perform to outstanding levels in long-range target or silhouette competition from barrels with standard twist rates.
6mm/ .243 Caliber 140 Gr. SBT:
  • UPC: 09276301730
  • Part #: 1730
  • Diameter: 0.264
  • Sectional Density: 0.287
  • Ballistic Coefficients and Velocity Ranges: 0.495 @ 2800 fps and above. 0.490 between 2800 and 2000 fps. 0.480 @ 2000 fps and below.
  • This bullet is the best long-range hunting bullet in 6.5 mm caliber. Exceptional accuracy, excellent ballistic shape, and adequate weight for medium and heavy game make this a truly exceptional bullet. This bullet is at its best in country like the wide open western prairie where shots are long and conditions difficult. It has a flat trajectory, great ability to resist crosswinds and vertical winds, and high energy delivery downrange. The bullet performs very well from any 6.5 mm cartridge with medium to large powder capacity, but it is at its absolute best from magnum rifles with maximum hunting loads.
25 Caliber 140 Gr. SBT:
  • UPC: 092763016251
  • Part #: 1625
  • Diameter: 0.257

7mm/ .284 Caliber 140 Gr. SBT:
  • UPC: 09276301905
  • Part #: 1905
  • Diameter: 0.284
  • Sectional Density: 0.248
  • Ballistic Coefficients and Velocity Ranges: .0416 @ 2400 fps and above. 0.418 between 2400 and 1800 fps. 0.423 @ 1800 fps and below.
  • For rifles chambered in 7mm cartridges, this bullet has the heavy, double-tapered Sierra jacket for hunting.. The #1905 bullet is recommended for all 7mm cartridges. It is an excellent choice as a lighter bullet in any of the 7mm magnum cartridges for use at medium to long ranges.
  • In handguns, the 140 grain #1905 is considered too "tough" for smaller cartridges, such as the 7mm TCU and 7mm BR. However, this bullet is seeing much use in the Remington XP-100 chambered for the 7mm-08 Remington or in similar cartridge/handgun combinations for both target shooting and hunting applications. This bullet is a good choice when driven at 2500 fps or more for medium or large game at typical handgun ranges. Using this bullet for hunting is limited to muzzle velocities achievable with only a select few cartridge and handgun combinations, but no such restrictions apply to target use. This bullet can be used in all 7mm cartridges for target shooting.
7mm/ .284 Caliber 160 Gr. HPBT:
  • UPC: 09276301925
  • Part #: 1925
  • Diameter: 0.284
  • Sectional Density: 0.283
  • Ballistic Coefficients and Velocity Ranges:
  • The 160 grain #1925 Hollow Point Boat Tail is a true magnum bullet, being somewhat "tougher" than the #1920 for deeper penetration. Contrary to a usual assumption, this hollow point bullet is not particularly fragile. The nose opening is closed slightly to help retard initial upset, but even expansion is assured by four skives cut into the jacket. Of course, there is no exposed lead to be deformed in the magazine. The result is an excellent bullet for many big game applications.
  • The 160 grain #1925 bullet is far too "hard" for hunting with a handgun. This bullet can be used in all 7mm cartridges for silhouettes and target shooting.
  • The #1925 was introduced in 1988.
.30 Caliber/ 7.62mm 150 Gr. SBT:
  • UPC: 09276302125
  • Part #: 2125
  • Diameter: 0.308
  • Sectional Density: 0.226
  • Ballistic Coefficients and Velocity Ranges: 0.380 @ 2600 fps and above. 0.368 between 2600 and 1800 fps. 0.360 @ 1800 fps and below.
  • For rifles in 30 caliber, this bullet was designed for medium- to long-range hunting with cartridges having medium to large case capacities for powder. These bullets often display match grade accuracy from accurate hunting rifles. The famous Sierra Spitzer Boat Tail shape assures flat trajectory, excellent resistance to crosswinds and vertical winds, and maximum energy delivery to the target. Good penetration and expansion are characteristic of these bullets even at the reduced impact velocities at long range. With the weight range available, at least one of these bullets will prove ideal for almost any 30 caliber cartridge. The 150 grain #2125 bullet is best suited to medium game at all velocity levels.
  • In handguns chambering 30 caliber cartridges, prior to the introduction of the Remington Model XP-100 (and similar handgun designs) utilizing larger rifle cartridges, the usefulness of these bullets was limited. Now, these bullets have a very definite niche as superbly accurate hunting bullets. Previously considered "too hard" for expansion, they perform well at the 2500 fps muzzle velocities achievable in the 308 Winchester and larger cartridges. Ease of loading and precise concentricity contributes to their excellent accuracy. Sierra's Spitzer Boat Tail design assures flat trajectory and high energy delivery downrange with low sensitivity to crosswinds and vertical winds. These bullets are suitable for varmints through large game at all ranges a prudent handgunner would normally attempt.
.30 Caliber/ 7.62mm 165 Gr. HPBT:
  • UPC: 09276302140
  • Part #: 2140
  • Diameter: 0.308
  • Sectional Density: 0.248
  • Ballistic Coefficients and Velocity Ranges: 0.363 @ 2600 fps and above. 0.355 between 2600 and 1800 fps. 0.363 @ 1800 fps and below.
  • For rifles in 30 caliber, this 165 grain #2140 Hollow Point Boat Tail bullet, which is patterned after the world-famous 168 grain MatchKing bullet, was designed for shooters who desire a hunting version of that famous MatchKing. It is slightly "harder" than its 165 grain Spitzer Boat Tail counterpart and will give superior penetration and good expansion on medium game with excellent accuracy. This is a good medium-weight bullet choice for shooters of 30 caliber magnum rifles who desire a bullet that will not deform at the point.
  • For handguns chambering 30 caliber cartridges, this 165 grain #2140 bullet is "hard" and will expand in medium to large game only when driven at a muzzle velocity of 2500 fps or more, which is achievable in the 308 Winchester cartridge in the Remington XP-100 handgun or a similar combination. It can, of course, be used for handgun silhouettes or other target purposes.

With the weight range available, at least one of these bullets will prove ideal for almost any 30 caliber cartridge. The 165 grain #2145 bullet is best suited to medium game at all velocity levels, and game the size of elk could be taken with confidence providing velocity doesn't exceed 3000 fps and the range is limited to about 300 yards.

  • These bullets have been designed for the 338 Winchester Magnum cartridge. Controlled, but reliable expansion and deep penetration are assured by a heavy double-tapered jacket and hard core. The Sierra Spitzer Boat Tail shape assures a flat trajectory, minimum wind sensitivity and precise accuracy at long range for both bullets. The 215 grain #2610 has been designed as a higher-velocity, lighter bullet for the 338 Winchester Magnum, although it is considered light for the 340 Weatherby Magnum. This bullet is suitable for medium through elk-sized game. The #2610 bullet will reliably withstand 338 Winchester Magnum velocities. Shooters using the 338-06 or similar cartridge must keep loads with the 215 grain #2610 bullet near maximum velocity levels for reliable expansion. Hunting rifles have shown extraordinary accuracy with this bullet in spite of the robust recoil of maximum loads.

if I could only have 1 bullet for deer this is it.
Near match accuracy with reliable aggressive expansion at 2700 fps and below. Great on deer. Need something maybe tougher if you might need to take a body shot on a big hog. Very reliable and consistent terminal performance. DRT.
