The M400 TREAD is an optics ready, aluminum frame rifle. TREAD features a 16" stainless steel barrel with a free-floating M-LOK handguard, a single-stage polished/hard-coat trigger, ambidextrous controls, a Magpul SL-K 6 position telescoping stock, a mid-length gas system, and is available in 5.56 NATO.
There's not much I don't like about this rifle. It came ready to shoot right out of the box and did not disappoint. I put on the Romeo 5 red dot sight and I have about 3" groupings from 100 yards. I searched for an AR that was a step above entry level and the M400 Tread is just that and more. I have put about 3500 rounds through it so far, all 5.56 NATO and have experienced absolutely no problems.
If you are looking for an AR platform rifle that is high in quality and a step above your typical entry level rifle, I highly recommend the Sig M400 Tread.
Fun, reliable, accurate, good looking and affordable.
I spent hours on line trying to decide between all of the offerings in sub $1000 rifles that are upgradable yet capable and satisfying out of the box. I am so glad I settled on this one. Keep in mind that personal preference may make my comments irrelevant to you but this us what I found
The gun is well balanced and rests in my hands very comfortable. The process if loading, cycling the bolt and working the magazine was flawless and smooth. Recoil was on par with other ARs I've fired but muzzle jump seemed less. 556 and 223 fed and extracted perfectly. The trigger was crisp but as with most mil spec triggers it was stiff. I will replace that eventually but no rush. It did not detract from the enjoyment. The upper and lower fit tightly together and contrary to what I saw on YouTube I did not need a punch to push out the retaining pin. The stock fit snug and was easy to adjust. Though the hand guard is metal, it did not get unreasonably hot but definitely warmed up. Compared to the other AR out today with a composite hand guard it was not much different.
I set this rifle up with the Romeo5 red dot sight. It was perfect for plinking metal targets on the range and even hell inch size groups at about 30 yards. You could do better you say? I bet you could but considering my sighting eye is dur for cataract surgery in a week I'd say the gun and sight took up a lit of slack from an impaired shooter.
This gun was worth every penny. It satisfied my criteria for cost accuracy, reliability and enjoyment. I recommend it to anyone looking for that entry level gun that does not look, feel it perform in an entry level manner. It was well above entry level.
