We bought the NXT 54 Portable basketball hoop from Goalrilla in the spring of 2024. The reviews I had read were favorable, especially when researched against other top brands for portable hoops. Set up was relatively easy. Total time from opening the box to completely finished and shooting hoops was about 3.5 to 4 hours, but we were entertaining a school aged child during the process, so it took us longer than it would have otherwise. The hoop is built extremely well and feels very sturdy for a portable hoop. The portable hoops I grew up playing on were often pretty flimsy and felt cheaply made. Not this thing. One of the things we were most worried about was wind blowing the hoop over, as we live in a valley that has consistent wind and stronger winds during storms. We filled the base of the hoop with sand and added another 100 lbs of sand in the bag goalrilla sells for the portable hoop base. This thing is sturdy as can be. I've watched 80 mph wind gust hit the backboard square and it barely shakes. The base has never moved an inch. Solid solid solid. The backboard is quality as well, although its slightly less responsive as a glass one, but very durable. Our hoop arrived as scheduled as did the assembly team recommended by Goalrilla. Don’t believe the “45 minute” assembly claim ! It took me 3 1/2 hours. The parts come in a combination of metric and standard American sizes. I needed to purchase sockets to accommodate 11mm, 16mm and 17mm as well as a couple metric wrenches. My grandkids love it. The only thing is like all potable hoops you have to make sure its base is weighted down or tied down. The day after I set it up we had a pretty good storm. Luckily the hoop fell down on the front hitting the rim not breaking the backboard. It bent the rim a little but they are still using it ok. At first I put sand in the wheels and a sand bag on top of the base, I thought it was ok. Be wary of longevity.","text":"I bought this hoop approximately 2 years ago. The 'frameless' nature of the backboard looks great, but I've now learned it also has a downside. Somehow the very edge of the backboard got a small 'nick' in it (probably just a ball hitting the side just right/wrong). That small nick was all that it took, and that has now become a constantly spreading crack in the backboard. So does it look great? Yep. Is it the most functional? It was carefully anchored into the ground by following the instructions and ensuring it was properly secured. We also filled the base to keep it stable. However, it has now blown over twice in mild weather conditions, and the backboard completely split in half!
