Beware, these are not meant to be taken off trail. The rubber bottom on the back started to peel off a week in after going down a brick staircase when my heel was against the brick and I lifted it to step down. Also, at least three times I have had sticks stuck into the bottom foam part under the arch. After pulling out, there's a clear puncture mark. The upper waterproof collar is still too loose after trying hard to tighten it with the small Velcro. I felt misled from their advertising. It's the most money I've spent on shoes, and it's not going to last as long as other alternatives almost half the price. Side note- Ash from a bonfire will burn a massive hole in the goretex. I have backpacked literally thousands of miles including the whole Appalachian Trail, New England Trail, Laurel Highlands Trail and many of the highest state highpoints in my Hoka Speedgoats. Every few years they come out with a dumb design and I have to guy prior year models for long enough until they come to their senses. This time they seem to have abandoned all the people who have made this shoe company what it is. We buy (bought) them for their roomy toe box and ready to run in comfort. But that is no longer the case, just look at the product reviews. I have tried every Hoka trail runner that is waterproof and NONE of them fit me, they are all too narrow and so tight that I can barely get my feet into them. This SG6 Mid GTX was my last hope, but on the first two trail runs of 5 and then 14 miles my feet hurt so bad that I didn't enjoy my time in the woods at all. I went to the site to swap my shoes for a wide model, but shockingly Hoka doesn't offer any GTX models in wide!!?? I have now done two hikes in this new model, and they are not functional and painful. The shoes put pressure on an outside portion of both feet in a spot that has created a painful internal foot injury that I have never experienced before. Plus, the neoprene ankle sleeve serves no purpose other than to create a funnel for debris to easily land in your shoe. When buying these, I knew the neoprene would not provide ankle support and was OK with that. I was hoping that it would serve as a gaitor to help shield debris from getting into the shoe. Unfortunately, even when the neoprene sleeve is pulled as tight as it will go so that the Velcro will still connect it is incredibly loose so any debris that is kicked up, just lands perfectly into the shoe. It is a horrible design. I normally don't write reviews, but I am so angry about this purchase as someone who has loved Hokas that I felt compelled to do so.
