I can get five years out of one before I start to notice any issues. I recently had to replace a remote because the numbers on the dial rubbed off and I can't see the little number anymore. I really like the display with the OLED screen. I can see it better with one exception. Dog 1 and Dog 2 indicator is very small. Old eyes I guess. I can't say enough at how good these collars are. I called customer service to get them cloned so I can run both dogs either together or independently. Mostly I used them for recall. Now that they are older and don't run so far in the woods I ordered the smaller SD-875. I used to have the 5 mile collar because they would chase deer. Boy they can run. The range is fantastic. The SD-875 has smaller battery life which is no big deal. I charge them at night. You can customize the buttons to whatever stimulation you want (or tone / vibrate). I really like the training booklet and videos. It's very important to train your dog first and then introduce the collar. I see so many people just strap on a collar and think the dog is going to know what it means. It's a communication tool. I love this brand and I love these collars. My dogs are calm and well behaved because I trained them and I use this collar to communicate with them in off leash situations. The instructions that came with the additional collar seemed to differ from the instructions that came with the 875. It has seen miles and miles of trail running. I love the clip on the back. Way easier to clip it to the belt than wear it around the neck like most collars. The collar is tough and durable. The transmitter is user friendly and easy to read. The screen is plenty bright. The batteries on both last much longer than expected. Been training my pup to hunt and it even functions as a great hunting collar if you like to run your dogs close. Overall extremely pleased. This is a tough collar that is easy to use and will last for a lifetime. I genuinely can't say that about other collars i've tried. This one, the remote stopped charging. The issue is typically related to charging regardless of model. Decent product, they need to work on longevity.
