The problem is the new scabbard. It slides out of the case leaving the chain unprotected unlike my old case with my other 291. The extension did not slide into the 30\" scabbard without a lot of time cutting, fitting, and gluing . I am sadly disappointed that Stihl would sell such a poorly designed piece. I spend time making sure the teeth are razor sharp and it’s great that Stihl has this available for almost any length of bar to protect the machine, my hard work in making it the best it can be, and protecting me from it in the process! These scabbards are inexpensive insurance from damage to you and your machine. I can’t think of any reason not to have one on your saw any time it’s not in use.
