The access bag is great for doing short day hunts from the truck or from camp. I like to sandwich my rifle between the frame and pack (sitting in the load shelf) while hiking, which works well with this little bag as well. Awesome for heading back in for the second (or 4th) load of a pack out when you just want to carry bare essentials with you.
The bag connects easy with the compression straps and gives me the ability to keep items I want quick access to readily available. Pairing the access bag and lid makes my 40/56 capable of staying in the field longer.
Overall, this is a nice system. Only problem is I had a buckle on the belt system break the first day of the hunt. To make it worse, its a buckle that is sewn onto the frame and not replaceable. So now I have a premium pack with a broken tightening strap buckle. Other than that, this pack was perfect for an 8 day Colorado public land elk archery hunt.
If you’re in between packs due to cubic inches for a hunt this is a great option for adding some quick space. Additionally, it was nice to move some items to a convenient spot and not have to dig into the pack. I ended up moving my food for the day and a few other items there. It worked out great.
No use yet but I have attached it my solo and avail packs. I think this will be a handy little bag that can be versatile on SG gear. I love the internal water bottle pocket especially for my avail bag. As always, SG quality is the best!
I used to run a Seek Pack. I really liked the talon they had. When I saw Access Bag I was all in. Work’s great for more cubic inches on the Sky 5900, or stuffing something behind it, or strap it to the frame with the lid and you have a meat hauling, shed hunting do it all day pack rig. Hold everything I need and then some for a day if I’m walking. I bought two tri slides for the bottom loops of the access bag. Run the 1 inch webbing through the tri slides, then through the loops, then back through the tri slides and it firms the whole access bag up, no slop. I used male and female buckels where typically the main bag attaches to the frame. This worked great for the lids make and female attachment points. Really well thought out.
The Access Bag, combined with a bare frame (I used the Crux EVO) was ideal for stalking big game all day. It was just the right size to hold snacks, rain gear, and a few other necessities. Plus, it successfully held every load in place. Camp was 2+ miles into the backcountry and the Access Bag was perfect for holding the essentials for the hike, preventing having to dig through the pack until we set up our camp.
Great little pack addition, used this accessory bag to hold my glassing gloves as well as some other items that I wanted to get to quickly without having to open my main bag up. Only negative for me was that I didn’t seem to have the right combination of male/female buckles to latch it on, but what I had I made work and I was more than happy with it.
I bought this to hold my pack cover, rain gear, and gloves during a 5+ day goat hunt this October. It worked great for that purpose, although it all Just Fit (size L/XL clothing). It also made it easy to lash additional gear underneath it between it and the main pack bag. As an added benefit, it helped keep that gear from getting hung up in the alders as well. I like how it stays attached at the bottom and flips away from the bag which makes it easy to keep track of you gear but still get unencumbered access to everything in the main bag.
As with all the other Stone Glacier products I I have purchased, the access bag is a piece of high quality equipment backed by incredible customer service. I like that it can attach straight to the frame so I can travel light for a stalk and still have everything I need to process the meat and still use the load shelf to get the meat out.
This bag is an excellent volume addition. I would love to see a little more thought out attachment system shipped with the bag. Having to use the bag attachment system makes the overall pack a little "wiggly" when loaded on hikes. Overall though as expected another piece of quality SG gear.
The access bag has been an excellent addition to my solo. Between this a couple of belt pouches and a hydro lid I can easily spend a week out. The modular system that stone glacier provides finally allows me to have one hunting pack to do it all! Thanks SG
I currently own the Sky Archer 6200 bag and this bag does not have a zipper on the back for quick access. With how tight this bag can be strapped down it can be a pain to sometimes get stuff out easily. With the Access bag I don't have to worry about diffing through my pack. I can now just store my most important items in my access bag and grab them when necessary. Great product and a worthy addition to the lineup.
I love Stone Glaciers gear, it is build with quality and durability in mind. The access bag is not only great for clipping on the outside of your bag but is also great as a stow away bag for organizing gear in travel bags.
I picked up the access bag for additional storage for Sky Talus for a day hike or a 10 day excursion. Keeping items I need immediately accessible , ie head lamps, rain jacket, InReach, Satellite phone, or even a snack. With such a slim design I don’t mind it stays attached to my pack all the time. It’s been an unexpected necessity.
Makes an excellent day pack all by itself. I run it on the xcurve frame, which already has the meat shelf. Just throw in a **** kit, some food and packable rain gear, and have everything I need. Highly recommend this product for sure.
Your packs, accessories and systems are the best I’ve used in over 30 years of guiding and outfitting in the western United States and Sonora. Thanks for great product! Todd George- Todd George Hunting Co. LLC
I recently used the access bag on a Krux frame on a backpack elk hunt. I carried 2 120 pound plus loads on the pack. The access bag worked very well holding the meat onto the frame. And the frame was pretty good. But I did have a hard time getting to my feet with very loads and looking at video I have realized that the meat shifts too much on the narrow Krux frame (as opposed to my usual wider seek outside pack). I really like the compact package and think the pack carries well - just not stable side to side. I think it is a great deer pack but a so so elk pack.
The bag is built well just like the rest of the stone glacier products. The big problem I have with this spotting scope and auxiliary bag is that I have to take the lens off my 65mm sts to make it fit in the bag. Wish it was 2 inches longer. Wouldn't have bought it if I would had known this.
