Good temp control and tons of room. The box was entertaining for my son too. There are some down sides but not enough to knock a star. If you've ever owned a smaller traeger, expect to use about 2x as many pellets in this one. But I think it's to be expected with the size of it. Also, heat and smoke come out the back and there is no stack. For this reason you MUST keep it away from anything that can burn. There's a safety grill in the hopper to keep stupid out of the auger and it keeps pellets from flowing into the auger. For me this was easily solved with a screwdriver but if drunk and stupid are a factor, then for your safety I'd leave it alone. Aside from that, it's awesome. The app is great and no problems connecting like some others have claimed. Maybe they have a poor quality router or some other issue. If you're serious about smoking but don't have the time to babysit a lump coal fire and constantly monitor Temps and adjust dampers, I'd highly recommend this smoker. Oh and 1 more thing.. Follow the directions and keep it clean. Don't be lazy or it will have problems... Like fire and flame out. Hasn't happened to me in this one but on the old Pro22 a couple times. Admittedly, it was my fault for being lazy both times.
The quality of this grill is the highest that I have seen. I am a contractor and have seen all brands/types of grills place in the summer kitchens and none have compared to the Timberline 1300.The body is solid and stable. The grates are heavy and well made. Assembly was almost seamless...due to the weight, I would definitely suggest an extra helper. The interface is self intuitive and easy to use. Up to date, I have smoke a meatloaf (directly on rack, (2) Boston Butts and ribeyes (smoked and then reverse seared). All have turned out perfect, the meat loaf was a first for me and honestly it was the best meat loaf I have ever tasted. The pork had a great flavor and pulled with ease. The steaks had the perfect amount of smoke and were exceptionally tender. The reverse sear worked well on the steaks. This grill will reach a temp of 500+ degrees, which was my only real concern about ordering this type of grill. I would recommend this grill to anyone looking for the perfect all-around high quality smoker/grill.
This product is exactly as advertised. This is no starter pack! The Timberline 1300 is a heavy duty cooking machine. I use all types of smokers from stick offset trailers to the Timberline 1300. From the couple of times that I have used the Timberline, I can say it is the most accurate, well cooking machine that I own.
I purchased the Traeger Timberline and had such high hopes for this grill. I returned it to the local merchant three weeks after I purchased the grill. I had trouble with the grill from day one. 1. The grill takes about 15 minutes to start smoking. I live in California and the temps were above 60 degrees and it wasnt windy. After 3 trips, the Traeger repair person was able to improve the start time to about 8 minutes by extending the hot rod further into the fire pit. Still it had a very slow start up. 2. It would take about 30 minutes to get the grill to about 300. About 50 minutes to take it up to 500. So much for turbo temp and the D2 drive train. This is slow, especially when it burns pellets at a rate of 3-4 pounds an hour to get up to this temp. I smoked some steaks at 225 and it took 25 minutes to get to 425 (wanted to reverse sear. That sucks! 3. Problem with super smoke putting soot all over food and grates. 4. Hopper doesnt work right. It sucks pellets over the auger creating a valley. You have to go out every few hours to mix up pellets in the hopper or else the auger will go dry. Yes, it was a level surface. 5. Traeger reps say it can take up to 50 minutes to get to full temperature (500) on the pellet grill when you call in reporting a problem. But they advertise fast start up and turbo temp, D2... This is deceptive-the advertise one thing but their service techs say something else. When you pay top dollar for a pellet grill, you expect it to work as advertised. Traeger needs to get their acdt together on this grill. Dont be fooled by their positive ratings on their website. Research Traeger forums on the internet and get the truth about this grill. Others on the forum says their rating was never published on this website; I am curious to see if mine gets published. I was so disappointed int this purchase. It was like I had a beautiful girlfriend that was ugly on the inside. The grill performed very poorly and was a bunch of trouble (daily phone calls-3 service trips in less than 3 weeks). I'm glad that Ace honored their return policy as I returned this grill and I am happy that I did!
Hade grill for 10 months it's a great grill loved the app and wifire until new update and new firmware, now nothing but trouble with the app no idea what the grill is doing unless you go out and check it so waste of money buying for the wifi until they fix it.
Long time traeger owner and decided to upgrade. Bought this for Christmas. Cooked three meals. the thermometer did not work from the start, the cook was uneven and high fat meat products like steaks, created grease fires (First time use, shouldn’t need to clean the trap). Customer service could not be less helpful for the nations most expensive grill. My older model traeger is still running like a charm. This machine feels like a con job. Pushing sub par quality products built on the strength of the original.
I bought my husband a Traeger about 4 years ago for father's day/Birthday. We loved it so much we decided to upgrade to the Timberline 1300 for our Christmas present this year. All I can say is that we are IN LOVE with it. This grill is our go to for any family get together as well as just for the two of us. We love the wi-fire feature for keeping an eye on things from indoors. If you are on the fence, get off and get this for yourself.
Here is what you need to know. Use the Traeger to cook for your loved ones immediately! In my case, it was my wife. Once she tasted the fare, she forget about the cost. I started with some salmon, a ham on Christmas, and have a pork butt on now. Can’t get enough Traeger meals!! Almost forgot the heads of cauliflower, nailed it.
So far I'm very impressed with this Grill. I've had several Traeger's over the years, and so far this is the best one hands down. First, it really holds the temps well. Previous models have struggled a bit, but this one really holds it well. Second, the construction is very solid and I like the seal around the lid. It will take at least two people to assemble, because it's heavy! But I like that, and means its very solid. Third, I really love how there is no smoke chimney. Instead it's even across the back. This makes it easier to put cover on, and does a better job of smoking! There are a few other great features as well so I'm very pleased. The only reason for not giving 4 stars is the drip pan underneath is a little weird. Time will tell how functional, in some ways I really like it, other ways i'm not sure yet. if you buy their foil covers they don't fit right, so I had to add my own foil as well. Which is fine, but just weird. Also, I'm still struggling getting the Wi-Fi to work. I'm fairly tech savvy (at least I think I am but it had the grill as its own Wi-Fi - so getting it connected to the home network hasn't happened yet. Instructions are very clear and I love that it has a scan code on the inside! However, so far I don't have it working yet. So depending on drip pan and Wi-Fi this review could go to full 5 or down to a 3! But it is a great grill and I do recommend it.
After I literally cooked the wheels off my Texas Elite that that I had for about 6 years, I made the move to the timberline 1300. Don’t think think I have to worry about cooking the wheels off this one (much sturdier. The smoke output on this unit is incredible!! So much more flavor. I cooked a turkey for thanksgiving that was fantastic and a day later cooked a Texas style brisket for all of us. Turned out unbelievable!!! Took about 17 hours but was not only the first one I cooked on this unit, but the best one I have ever cooked, period.... Everything I have cooked on the 1300 has been fantastic. Brisket, turkey, chicken, ribs, pulled pork. Obviously more pricey than the Texas Elite was but well worth the money. I am definitely a believer
The ignition cycle is slower than the older models. The pellet hopper could use some design improvements, seems the pellets tend to create a void area registering low palate supply when however it still could have 60% in the hopper. Those are the two reasons I didn’t give it five stars. Still produces great food like the older models and being able to control it from your app and continually monitor is a great feature!!!
I have always been a true believer in charcoal and wood for smoking. But I have a good buddy that swears by Traeger. So after doing some research and watching a bunch of YouTube videos. I decided on the Timberline 1300 D2. My main reasons was I like that it is totally insulted so i will be able to use all year long. The SUPER SMOKE feature and the ability to control it through the Traeger App. I have did 3 cooks on it so far my 3red cooking being my largest. 1 15lb Turkey, 1 12Ib pork butt, 1 ham 1 whole chicken, 3 slabs of pork ribs, 1 slab of beef ribs and 6 individual short ribs. Everything was cooked to perfect and my family loved it. I loved I will say i have cooked on offset smokers, webber smoky mountain, and green eggs. And to me this was just as good a good smoke flavor I was able to use the super smoke feature the first 3 hrs of the cook so I think and feel it is a great feature. I love it glad I pulled the trigger and got the Timberline 1300.
Love it! I should have probably purchased the 850; that would have suited my requirements better. Having said that, I cooked meat, poultry, fish, pizza and all have turned out perfect. As I type this I am smoking a 17lb spatchcock turkey and I expect it will be perfect. It is a fabulous grill with a slight learning curve!
I have had my 8500 for a year and now need to replace the heating element AGAIN. Not sure why but I seem to only get 4-6 months usage before the element quits working, and always at a very inconvenient time. My previous pellet grill from another less known manufacturer lasted five years.
Been watching this grill for company for about 2yrs. Finally purchased the 1300. It is amazing. I've been grilling everyday since I brought it. From ribs to burgers to whole chickens. It is simply amazing what this grill can do. Most of all I love the wifi feature. It makes starting the grill a breeze. I will never buy another grill.
Not as good as my Green Egg. Not enough smoke. Temp control is inconsistent, and it is loud. Ruins the experience hearing it next to your friends on the patio. I wouldn’t buy it again especially at the cost.
Make sure and plan ahead before lighting up... takes 5+ hours to grill small batch of meat. Also when purchasing a new grill don’t forget to buy your pellets, as per every place we saw this grill in person prior to purchasing directly from traeger you should get a free bag, not the case when purchasing direct I guess....
I have been using a Treager smoker for over 9 years. In my opinion, Trager has corrected all of the flaws I noticed with my Lil Tex. This Timberline 1300 is heavier, lights easier, has a sealed door, and a grease bucket enclosure so our dogs can’t eat the grease...the pellet hopper even has a light! Very happy
Wife bought a Timberline 1300 as a birthday gift in July, and ever since the meals that have been prepared have been amazing. Salmon has been cooked to a buttery perfection; moist, tender and flavor that can only be experienced. Pork...from ribs to pork loin to butts. Each dish is moist and delicious. The best part is, it is easier to monitor your cooking with the Wifire system and the Traeger app. When using the probe, you can set the temperature you want your food to be cooked too and just set the alarm. The Wifire system allows you to adjust the temperature of the grill from your smart phone. It can't get any easier than this...unless you have a chef prepare your food for you.
My first real grill/smoker. I’ve never been the best cook for friends and family, but on this grill, things are different. Nothing that has come off of it has been anything but great. Highly recommend!
Got a timberline 1300 about a year ago and I love it. Can't say anything wrong about it. Best money I ever spent. Had several backyard parties and the food came out perfect. Just set it and forget it, and the wi-fi feature lets you know when you're food is done no matter where you are.
Delivery was quick and on time, set up was easy and the brisket and burnt ends I cooked on the first weekend were amazing even impressing my semi-vegetarian wife. The app made keeping track of the pellets and temperatures each during the 10 hour cooking time.
I saw a Traeger on a add and had to check it out. I bought a lil tex model. I loved it. About 2 months later I upgraded to the Timberline 1300. I love this grill. I competed in my first competition and I was more than happy with my results. I love the versatility and convenience. The wood fired flavor is unmatched. I would recommend this or any Traeger to anyone and everyone.
