The first is a LH Waterfowl 28\"/3.5\" model I bought at Bismarck Scheels couple years ago (I'm LH but started shooting shotguns in the 60's before LH models existed so I shoot RH models equally well) that has proven deadly on western ND roosters. I was in Bismarck yesterday (08-20-25) and as usual stopped in Scheels. They had the black synthetic SX4s on sale and as my dad used to say \"it was such a good deal I couldn't afford not to buy it\". IMO SX4s are hands down the best value available in a semi auto shotgun. They are utterly reliable, cycle anything you want to put in them, are easy to take down for cleaning, and with the stock shims, LOP can be adjusted to fit just about anyone (LOP with the recoil pad and no shims is 14\" which fits me perfectly). the 26\"/3\" models like this one are well under 7 lbs so are equally at home out here in western ND where we primarily hunt upland as well as in central/eastern ND after waterfowl. Fired 2 & 3/4-inch trap loads (Fiocchi 1 & 1/8 ounce of # 7.5 at 1200 fps), 2 & 3/4-inch hunting loads (Winchester Supreme, 1 & 1/4 ounce of #6 at 1300 fps), 3-inch Steel BBB (Remington Nitro Steel), and 3-inch lead (Winchester XX, #2, 1 7/8 ounces). Fired three rounds of each type. The shotgun fired, ejected, and reloaded until empty with no failures. The recoil off the Winchester 3-inch Double XX loads was stout, to be polite, but these loads will kick on any shotgun! \nChecked the pattern with the modified Invector Plus choke tube using the Winchester Supreme #6s. The pattern was very uniform.\nTotally disassembled the shotgun for cleaning after the range test. Removed the plug, then replaced it. Completely cleaned all basic subassemblies and reassembled the shotgun. Disassembly and plug removal was easy. Reassembly was a little challenging. Replacing the plug was moderately challenging. I have reassembled shotguns that were much more difficult to reassemble. I have also worked on shotguns that were easier to reassemble. This Winchester in somewhere in the middle as far as ease vs. difficulty.\nFor me, the shotgun is intuitive to operate (not my first gas semiauto!), points naturally and provides easy followup shots.\nI'll be using this shotgun for late season pheasants when the weather is wet.\nMade in Portugal, not in the U.S.A., but the price was definitely right! I did test out everything from 3.5 inch BB, 3 inch 2’s, to 2.75 inch game and trap (I had 1oz and 1 1/8 oz I think) Cycled everything fine. Shot clays and some barn swallows, haven’t pattern tested. Can’t wait for waterfowl season and I will also use for pheasant. I used Carlson Cremator Long Range (non-ported) and was as accurate as I would expect with clay and barn swallows, but like I said no pattern testing.
