The J53 is a great pack for comfort, fit, balance. However, after 2 uses and 4 years storage inside a climate controlled home, the inside material began delaminating, releasing sticky debris all over everything. It is impossible to get it all off after hours of cleaning. I contacted Gregory, and they said that is not covered under warranty. I also bought a Gregory Baltoro 65 at the same time, same use, same storage. No issues. They used a different material on this pack. The J53s use inferior, cheap materials and Gregory took the stance to say that it was a storage issue, and/or the effective life expectancy of the material. They will basically blame the consumer for their cost savings/cheap material choice. I was hoping they would make it right, but no joy other than a 50% off coupon to rebuy all new packs at MRSP from their website. Very expensive ordeal to have to do again even with the discount. I bought 4 packs, 4 years ago and now have to buy 3 more all over again. Very disappointed in what I thought was a solid company/manufacturer. \n\nVery disappointed in what I thought was a solid company/manufacturer who would stand behind their products. Everyone makes mistakes in business choices (ex - material selection). It was very comfortable and i had no shoulder or back pain carrying about 35 lbs over the course of anout 25 miles.\nThe bad: the chest strap broke immediately out of the box. Customer service responded quickly and sent out a replacement strap, however, I have yet to install it because it is impossible. I have plenty of determination and grit, and now thanks to my countless attempts, bruised finger tips. But, after hiking the 350-mile Pinhoti Trail, I'm going to look for a lighter pack. A couple of days before I left, the grap strap broke and I had to take it to a shoe repair shop to get it sewn back on. Then, while I was on trail, the chest strap broke off of the sliding ridge and I had to use paracord to tie it to the shoulder strap. And, even after 4 weeks of hiking, my back and shoulders were sore from the 25-ish pound pack weight. I love that it zips around so that I don't have to remove everything from my the bag to get the stuff on the bottom. I also really like the bottom zipper as an extra compartment. In my old bag, I had to dangle everything on the outside off of carabiners, so this is nice. It is also very comfortable to wear and adjusts easily.
