Right after I got these boots, I had to take an emergency trip to Denver. Although I ended up not hiking, I was si glad I had them with me as it SNOWED the entire week. I wore them every time I went out and they were comfortable, warm, and kept my feet dry!!
I have long and very narrow feet, so finding shoes that fit well is tricky. Add that to preferring footwear that stops above my ankles and I was worried about finding hiking boots that would check all the boxes. But these boots are something special! They fit perfectly as soon as I put them on, with no painful breaking in period. These were everything I wanted in a hiking boot, and the grip is suburb! These boots are going to make hiking much easier!
I have been working towards greater strength and mobility in my feet as I recover from chronic ankle and hip pain. I have been focusing on footwear that has a wide toe box to accommodate my foot shape and bunions: topo athletic, and I experimented with Altra lone peaks for trails (but I find them too 'mushy'). I have been using this type of footwear in part so I can wear correct toes, which require footwear with a wide enough toe box to accommodate them. I have previously owned Keen hiking boots for their wider fit, but when I saw an ad for these ones I was motivated to try them due to the flexible toe box - another hallmark of footwear that support natural foot function. I'm really impressed that these are wide enough in the toe box that I can wear my correct toes in them. I feel very planted in them: they allow for a decent amount of proprioception on the soles of the feet while still being protective. It's very rare to find these qualities in a boot that also has a ton of ankle coverage and support, which I find crucial for muddy and rocky conditions. Good job Keen!
Was very excited when i 1st put these on, the flexible part is brilliant, effortless to walk in them.
Toe box is nice and roomy, could wiggle my toes no problem. Then came the dreaded tingle in my outer toes within 10 minutes of walking around my house. The mid section where the arch is is far too narrow. I would say these are a narrow fitting rather than medium,
I'd love to take Keen's advice & buy mens for a wider fit but they start at size 6.
Come on Keen - do more for Women please. You've recognised there's a huge gap for a wider fit in your range so fill it.
Get in touch with me when you do. I loved these boots which is why I haven't given them 1 star.
I've been trying to find a boot that doesn't blister my heals for a very long time. These boots work perfectly for me. The heel doesn't rub going uphill and my toes are not crushed going downhill. The added flex makes them extremely comfortable. They are a boot that can be worn all day - and they're waterproof!
I just got these to wear at work, I am an animal care taker at a wildlife park so I am on my feet all day and working in all sorts of climates and terrain. These seem to have what it takes to handle the job. Lots of support and the new toe flex design seems like it can handle the abuse. I feel like they are a little too snug in the ankle and the shoes laces are very short so it is hard to keep them tied and double knotted.
These boots meet all of my needs, most importantly, comfort. I needed a boot I could hike in, be waterproof, and be comfortable. I live in the mountains, and a good boot is critical. The wider toe box was key for me. I have other boots that are too narrow in the toe. I love these boots. I wear them with thick socks, but I ordered my normal size.
I’ve had keen boots that were my first ever pair of hiking boots. They lasted 5 years and hundreds of hikes in all types of weather. So I thought I should invest in some new ones as the old ones started to fall apart. I’ve had these for one month and have only hiked in them for a week trip in Utah. Totaling 4 actual hikes and they are starting to fall apart. I’m very disappointed ☹️. I was excited about them and now I’m sad.250$ wasted.
I purchased the Keen Women's Ridge Flex Waterproof Boot to replace my eight-year old Keen hiking boots that I wore out and loved. The size and shape/fit of the Ridge Flex boots is perfect, and I like how they look. However, the seams along the side of the boot tongue are sewn poorly, leaving thick bumps that push into the tops of my feet in various pressure points. Because I know boots need to break in, and the overall fit of the boot was so good, I decided to keep them. I walk about 1-1/2 miles every morning and carefully lace up the boots with the tongue in a position that minimizes the bumps. (Side note: the pairs of grommets at the tops of the boots drive me crazy in this task - the thickness of the laces does not match the width of the grommets making it hard to get the laces settled into the keepers.) So far, after two full weeks, the left boot feels good. The right boot seems to have worse stitching and still pokes into the top of my foot. I will give these boots a try a bit longer because they were pricey. I wish I'd sent them back right away. I'm not at all happy with the workmanship of these boots.
The inside of the tongue on the boot is very stiff and has stiff material in it. When you tighten up the boot, it pinches on the top of the ankle and hurts so badly. I wanted to like these, but I just couldn't wear them for more than a few minutes. My daughter complained about this exact same thing with the exact same boot (just a different size).
These are good hiking shoes. They are a little too wide for my feet, especially around the arch and heel but they well made hiking shoes. I also think that the shoes would be better if they had arch support. But I would have kept them if the pair that I ordered hadn’t been defective. There was a sharp and painful bump in the tongue of one of the shoes. Rather than folding and lying flat it dug into the foot.
I am a landscaper and I needed boots to keep my feet warm and dry in Wisconsin spring time. So far, these have performed amazingly! Extremely comfortable, right out of the box. I have short but wide feet so I've struggled with typical leather work boots not bending at the foot box, keeping my foot too rigid. So I was intrigued with the new flex feature of these boots. That was just what I needed! Super pleased so far, now just need to see how long they last.
I am a huge fan of Keen shoes. I have sandals, and I also have a pair of awesome winter hiking boots, the Revel IV. This flex boot design is disappointing. Don't get me wrong, it's not a horrible design, but it is a horrible design for my foot. I normally wear an 8, and go up a half size in all my hiking boots. I ordered the 8.5 and was excited to get out on the trail.
Unfortunately, no matter how tight I tied the boot, I couldn't get it to lace properly, there isn't any leather between the lacing area of the boot, and the flexible part of the boot which limited the fit around the top of the foot forcing me to tie my ankles tighter, which only created annoying hot spots and rubbing. Not my favorite.
I have a prominent bunion on my left foot and narrow heels, and have tried on and returned a lot of hiking boots, trying to find one that fits without causing a lot of pain and soreness. These were perfect right out of the box, comfortable and flexible. I've only gone about 20 miles in them so far, but my feet feel as great in them at the end of the hike as they did at the beginning and I'm looking forward to putting a lot of miles on them.
It fit nice and roomy in the toe box. I returned because I really wanted the light greenish color and they were out of stock ;( Also I found another waterproof boot slightly lighter weight that fit well.
I really wanted to love these boots! However, the seam that attaches the tongue on the boot to the inside, digs into the side/top of my foot. This inner seam is really stiff and sticks out too much. I'm trying to decide if this just needs some good breaking in, or if this is just an unfortunate part of the design.
Also, the toe portion feels exceptionally roomy, which I'm not sure I love.
Other than that, the boots are esthetically pleasing and definitely have a nice light feel. I think they have potential, but the pressure from the seam may be a deal breaker for me.
Really great fitting boot and very comfortable from the get go.
However, very frustrated that even in this day and age not only one, but two of the women's colour options are pink. Absolutely loved some of the men's colour choices but unfortunately they didn't fit as well so ended up going for the only other option, yellow, which wouldn't have been my first choice. Are we really still in the age where almost everything aimed at women has to be pink?
The arch support on the outer edge of these boots is weird. I'm going to keep them in the hope it will be OK, because it's nearly impossible for me to find size 5 boots anywhere. However, if I had a normal size foot, I'd be returning them.
I normally have an issue with my metatarsal hurting while wearing most shoes, but the footbed in my Keen sandals has been a lifesaver! I needed to invest in some waterproof boots for a winter weekend, including snowmobiling and snowshoeing, and took a chance on ordering these Keen boots online. They fit great and, best of all, my feet don’t hurt at all while wearing these boots! I’m very impressed, and very satisfied with my purchase!
Passed their first weekend of hiking with flying colors
I took these hiking in water, snow, and mud up mountains this weekend. I had micro spikes on for both days. The boots were really comfortable and had excellent ankle support. The waterproofing held up. They look cute, under the mud. They could use longer laces. I’m an 11 and I can just double knot them with no extra lace.
I just received these boots. While they seem to fit fine, the laces are so short I can barely tie them, and not enough shoelace for a double knot. Very disappointing as I wanted to wear them today. But, either need to find longer shoelaces, or return. Seems like great shoes, but hard to wear if not enough lace. I bought insole, and it is even harder as lace is shorter with that in there. Hope Keen would send longer laces. We will see.
These hiking boots are great for what I need. I hike on pretty rough terrain every day for at least an hour. They treads have gripped really well so far. I haven't worn them in really wet weather yet, but so far so good. They are comfortable, with excellent foot support. They fit perfectly and are easy tie up tightly. The laces don't seem to loosen up much as you walk. I've had other boots that do that and it can be really annoying.
Great fit and comfort. My wife tried them on a short hike so far, and no break-in period needed. Loves the ankle support with the feel of a light hiking boot with supreme control and flexibility over the terrain. This is now her favorite boot!
I have been wearing this boot through snow, slush and mud and they have kept my feet warm and dry! They are incredibly comfortable for long walks/hikes, the wide toe box and fitted heal keeps my foot in place without being constricting. I personally like the bright colors on these, they are a little more eye catching then my other keen boots.
Comfort: Although I did not keep this boot in the end, it was the most comfortable boot I have tried on/tested over 10 years. Really, it feels like a cushioned sneaker - unreal! Color: I am not a fan of pink, and really found the comfort band on the top of the shoe distracting. Why not use black or grey or green to match the sole? Keen, please reconsider that pink strip that looks like a tongue! Fit: Very true to size for Keen footwear. Very roomy from toe box down to heel. I do not have narrow feet - a standard 9B - and found the 9 fit with room to spare for thick winter socks. If you have a narrow foot, avoid this boot - it will not fit.
Disclosure: As I did not keep this boot - opted for the Pyrenees - I cannot give 5 stars.
These boots are super comfortable, have excellent support, and are perfect for the wettest and muddiest of trails! I was shocked how happy my feet felt after an 8 mile maiden voyage! Will be sporting these puppies on all my PNW hikes for the foreseeable future!
