Let me preface this by saying that my feet LOVE to blister. I have gotten blisters in every shoe I own, even if they have been worn regularly for years. I've been avoiding investing in a pair of hiking boots and, frankly, hiking itself. The last thing I wanted was to drop some serious cash, only to find that the boots would never work and being unable to return after a test drive. These boots are not that. I'm a glutton for punishment, so I laced them up straight out of the box and went for a 4+ mile hike. I could not be more pleased. My dramatic feet survived the encounter, my ankles felt supported, everything felt cushy, and NO BLISTERS! I have a feeling that these boots will be with me for years. I don't know anything about boots, so I cannot comment on the specs, but these things will get you where you're going. If you're on the fence and reading this...this is your sign: don't cheap out and make yourself (and feet) miserable. Find and invest in the right boot! Also, the "bungee cord/redwood" color is gorgeous.
So far i love these boots. I love the wide toe box. They are almost a 5 stars. The one thing that kept me from rating them a 5 stars Is the left boot has a little lift on the bottom by the toes. It seems like the inside of the shoe by the ball of my boot would be right before my toes begin was not glues smoothly or evenly. Other than that the shoes are really well made. Love the leather.
My boots are definitely older than a year, possibly two years old. The boots fit well and have been comfortable from the beginning. The uppers have lasted well. I too had issues with the single hook at the top but found hooking up, rather than down solved the issue and they no longer loosen as I walk. But... a piece of the black add on rubber on the sole has recently fallen completely off. Unfortunately it is on the back of the heel so all of a sudden my boots, that seemed destined to last for a good while yet, are now unusable as it results in a very uneven gait. At first I thought I had strained my knee on a walk but on looking closer found the heel piece completely gone making a difference of about 2cm from the outside to the inside of the heel. I see the exact same area on the other boot is also torn and ready to fall off. I am over 65 years old and am more of a walker than a hard core hiker so am disappointed that the boots have not lasted longer. I will take them to my favourite shoemaker to see if they can be repaired but am doubtful. So yes a good boot upper but don’t expect the sole to last more than 2 years of easy use.
Comfortable, but they could do with another lace hook at the top, as the laces tend to come loose. Also the ankle padding is stuff and quite high which could rub. I had to loosen the laces to prevent this. Not as good as the previous model.
I had a pair of Keen hiking boots for years that held up really well. They were getting worn, so I decided to replace them. I bought these boots in late 2019. I was disappointed that the mesh/black thread started fraying almost immediately where the tongue attaches. For now it is just a cosmetic issue. After less than a year, the tread started separating from the sole of the boot. Small stones get stuck in between. They still seem to be waterproof, so that's a plus. I'm concerned that these problems will get worse. I continue to wear them because they are very comfortable. Can someone at Keen advise me what to do?
These are hands down, the most comfortable hiking boots I’ve ever owned! They are sturdy & rugged, but also light & nimble. They provide tremendous support for my hyper-mobile ankles & fantastic traction on all types of terrain. I didn’t even want to take them off at the end of the day & almost wore them to bed! Ha! Seriously though, they are THAT comfortable! These are the Holy Grail of hiking boots!
Comfortable but not waterprood and poor construction
I bought a pair in August 2020 and loved them - very comfortable and great for longer hill walks. But, despite good care, after 6 months use the material around the edges is perishing and the upper is coming away from the sole so they are not waterproof and I can't rely on them in wet weather.
I have worn these boots twice and they are most uncomfortable because of the bulky seam inside the heal of the boot, they have caused bruising on the inside of my ankles and have rubbed the skin all the way around the ankle from this seam inside the boot, the boots were worn with walking socks. Most disappointed.
I am very new to Keen's and liked the style of the Targhee III. The foot bed was reasonably comfortable and there was plenty of space in the toe box. I ordered size 9.5 and 10 - I am usually a 9.5 and those fit better; however both were excruciating around the ankle, hitting in a place that dug into my leg and ankle bones. I couldn't hike around my living room in these for two minutes. Sorry. I can't understand how anyone might find these shoes remotely comfortable.
I received these for Christmas and have worn them about 3 days a week for the last few months and have been on a few hiking outings. Today I noticed that there is a weird rip in the mesh fabric where the tongue meets the leather panel. It's happening on both shoes. Comfort and fit are great but they are narrower than the Targhee II.
As is the usual for my Keen shoes/boots these Targhee III are a perfect fit right out of the box, no break in ever for me in Keens. I have several pair of Keen boots and they are all super comfortable, waterproof and sturdy. Keen's footbeds have the shape of a foot not some cramped, narrow toe space. These Targhee III live up to their features in every way! I can order 9.5 size every time with no try on and know they will fit.
I am a delivery driver and targhee is all i wear ive even recommended and got two of my coworkers to start wearing keens. The best shoe I've worn so far, theyre instantly comfortable no breaking them in. Theyre lightweight so my feet never hurt and my legs don't get tired from all the walking and jumping in and out of my truck. And they look good and match my uniform well. I think theyre the perfect shoe for the type of job I have. I get a new pair every year as the tread wears away because i walk 15,000 to 25,000 steps a day across all different types of surfaces, mainly pavement. I honestly cant say enough good things about this shoe im so happy i found keen
I have had two pairs sent as a replacement pair and both right boots have a sealing issue as they were not glued properly. I am a first time Keen customer and although I love these boots, I am very disappointed in the production of these boots, namely with incomplete sealing in the outside heel portion of the boot. I am hesitant in getting another pair, especially when it comes to ordering online. I cannot say whether I would recommend as I received two defective pairs in the mail. They should be inspected before being shipped to the customer. My last review didn’t make it online, but I hope this one does as this issue needs to be addressed.
bought these less than 3 months ago, I walk > 10k each day, it's rained a lot recently and every time I go out in the rain, my feet and socks are soaking. sent a message to keen and was asked for a photograph clearly showing damage. there is no damage, they just aren't waterproof 😒 not sure where to go with this...
I needed a boot with good traction for winter walks in snowy MN. I tried the Targhee II first but theTarghee III is an improved design that fits better and is more comfortable. I also like the new color combinations. The only thing that I noticed was the boot rubs against my left ankle due to the mid height. I'm hoping once I break them in with a few more walks/hikes, that will no longer be a problem. I wore them in 15 degree weather and my feet stayed warm. Runs true to size.
I purchased these for on-site construction meetings for work at a parks department. They didn't even need any breaking in. These shoes are so comfortable! I also have very thick ankles and these fit well without being too tight.
These boots were highly recommended by my sister, and reviews seemed promising. I was very excited to buy them. They’re stylish and I love the colors and the reflective strips. Originally ordered a size 9 and had to exchange for a 9.5 as my toes were touching the ends during any kind of decline. Well, I run a lot, hike often, and love to backpack and have never suffered like I have from these :/. My lower legs start aching after a few miles and then the next couple of days my shins are unbelievably sore from how heavy these boots are and I can barely walk with even flip flops on. I have never had that issue with any previous boots. Also, I’ve only worn them twice for a total of 17 miles and both sides of the ankle on both boots have holes worn in them from the shoelaces. I am very disappointed because I wanted to love these boots so much!!!
These boots fit comfortably and felt broken in almost right of the box. They are good for hiking and just playing in the snow. Waterproof without making your feet feel hot and sweaty. My feet are a bit wide. Not wide enough for a true wide width but wider than average. Normal size in these feels a bit wider than average which is perfect for me.
I needed some new hiking boots and I wasn't that happy with my previous pair. However my husband was on his second pair of Keen's so I decided to try them. I have only worn them on a couple of relatively short hikes so far but they fit great and no need to break in. I ordered an 8.5 but usually wear 8's.
I notice that Keen women's shoes are not true to size. I usually wear a size ten, and went up to a 10.5. I still will only be able to wear these boots with a thin sock (no wool). Toe box is quite narrow. Many times I buy Keen in men's 8.5, but in a boot my foot would have too much room in the heel. Otherwise, these are very well made, good-looking, and will last a long time, like every other Keen shoe.
Very comfortable for all of my outdoor activities right out of the box. If you're an active outdoor person, I would highly recommend. They are light and have a roomy toe and are not slick on the bottom.
I had bought the Targhee II Waterproof boots last July and I loved them! About 6 months later the left boot began to leak. I filled out the warranty form (how wonderful that they warranty their boots for 1 year!) and they sent me a credit for the amount of the boots. I was going to replace them with the same boots but they were out of stock. I came across these Targhee III's that were $10.00 more and decided to try those. They are THE most comfortable hiking boots I've ever had! I wore them right out of the box and they didn't need to be broken in! And I walked through a creek several times and no leak either. They are a little narrower than the Targhee II but it turned out that my feet weren't as wide as I thought and they fit perfect! Thank you Keen for making these and thank you for for having a warranty on your products! I'm a loyal customer now! Oh forgot to add, they have the BEST customer service too!
I bought these to hike in. I had never worn mid or high top boots for hiking. I had a few things to learn, for sure. These are not as wide in the toe box as I had hoped for... But, after several days of discomfort, I found the best lacing for me, was to make sure that my heel is locked down. This made a world of difference and my feet stopped moving forward on downhill scrambles. I ordered a half size up, wish I had ordered a whole size up. Overall these are cushy, waterproof and ankle stabilising. Get your socks and lacing right for hiking and you will love these.
Either these boots run small or sizing up 1-2 sizes for wide feet is the way to go.
Getting them secondhand, I was surprised to find mine are a size 9, because I typically wear a size 7 on the day-to-day. I size up to a 7.5-8 boot to accommodate thicker socks, however these at size 9 (TWO sizes up) don’t feel too big on me at all and are super comfortable for all day wear.
I love the reinforced toe and despite so many different terrain/trail types, I’ve had pretty good confidence on all of them with the traction I get with the souls.
Brilliant boots! Due to Covid-19 I have a 14 month wait for fusion surgery to my big toe. I have end stage arthritis and walking is so painful I can barely walk 100yds in normal shoes. As these boots are wide, have a stiff sole and arch support I now have limitless walking without ANY pain! I’ve just finished a 11 km difficult terrain hike. Unbelievable. Just wear good wool hiking socks. No rubbing at all.
I bought these after my Targhee II pair fell apart after 4 months of daily hiking. Thought they would be good and maybe stay together a little longer but after trying them out on a walk my feet were killing me. I have a wide foot and these are definitely not as wide as the Targhee II.
I’m Keen obsessed and this was my 6th pair of shoes but first hikers. I spent some money on these over the summer but after weathering a broken ankle just now had the opportunity to try them out. I’ve done two local day hikes to test them out before a back country trip and my feet were absolutely killing me after both hikes. They have no support and the weight of them had my legs feeling fatigued. Not to mention the stiffness of the shoe on the inside of my ankle caused soreness. I’m so disappointed. My advice is to save your money on these; sure wished I had.
I have the men's version of the same hiking boot, since my feet are larger and wider. For those, I had bought a size 10. The women's boot was on sale and I liked the colors, so bought a size 11 of them. It feels a bit narrower, but hoping once I break them in some they will loosen up. I really wish Keen made a wider women's size and offered that option.
The boot is solid and definitely provides nice support. As advertised, it is waterproof and have never had any leakage. I love Keen products since they are solid and last even though I wear them constantly. Hopefully these boot will do the same as other products I have purchased (Newports).
I do loads of walking over many different terrains and in any weather. These boots were extremely comfortable from the first day - no rubbing etc. Light and waterproof they have excelled in keeping my feet dry and made walking safe with great grip. Best so far! Love them!
Great sturdy boot, nice design and I like the leather. Firs my feet great. My only complaint is the inserts are not real comfortable as I would like. That may be because I'm so used to wearing comfy cushioned running shoes. But if you want to improve these boots, Keen, please add more cushioned inserts. I had to buy some memory foam inserts from somewhere else but now its great walking.
I love them. I ordered a half size larger than my normal shoe size and they fit perfectly. Roomy in the toe, rugged for walking in rocks and grips in the mud. Depending on socks, they are warm for cooler temps. I like the wide space at the ball of the foot and the sides of this shoe are sturdy. This is my second pair of Keen boots, similar shoes. Keen did not disappoint,
I love these hiking boots! I'm often between sizes, so I ordered 7.5 & 8 in both Targhee 2 and Targhee 3. I tried the Targhee 2's first (in the 7.5, the 8's were too big). They were very comfortable but just too wide for my medium width foot. Next I tried the Targhee 3 in 7.5 which fit perfectly. They are not as wide as the older Targhee 2's but still accommodate the bunion on my foot. They are incredibly supportive and feel so good on my feet; no break-in required. I haven't worn hiking boots in years - just been walking the dog in rubber boots - but these hiking boots are wonderful and have really enhanced my walks. I'm not an exercise-loving person but I do look forward to putting these on and going for a nice walk. I usually walk 2-3 miles through fields, hills and woods and have found these boots to be the perfect fit. They are easy to lace up, the laces stay put, and are just right for double knots (though not necessary). I stood in a creek and have walked in the pouring rain and they are completely waterproof. I've walked in mud and a bit of snow and they feel very secure. I really like the ankle support; not stiff, just right. If you have a wide foot, I'd recommend the older Targhee 2's. If you have a medium width foot, I'd recommend these wonderful Targhee 3's. I'm so happy I took a chance and purchased these... just wish I had thought to order them on Cyber Monday when they were on sale instead of the week before!
These boots were an early birthday present for my 17 yr-old grandaughter. She researched hicking boots and picked these out. Her and her mother are doing a lot more hicking since Covid 19. She loves these boots. Quality product.
