I can think of two positive comments about these Avalon fleece pullovers that earn the two stars: The fleece fabric is heavenly soft, and the garment is very well made. But the negatives outweigh those two attributes and sadly, I returned the two Avalon fleece pullovers that I had ordered. At the top of the "dealbreaker"list for me, is the way the fleece fabric is so CLINGY. IMHO, nothing less attractive than a garment that clings. The colors (I tried two) were not even close to what they looked like on my computer screen. The real life colors are darker and "dulled down" relative to how they appeared online. My computer is only a year old. I order many clothes online. This isn't typically an issue. Last, the fit didn't work for me. Loose and roomy in the body, and uncomfortably tight sleeves. I am 5'6", 135 lbs. Because I prefer a fleece pullover to be loose & roomy enough to layer & move freely in, and because my 2 Kuhl Flight pullovers fit me just the way I like in size Large, I ordered these Avalon fleece in size Large. My Flight pullovers fit beautifully, they are flattering, drape nicely, and have roomy arms. Thought a similar garment from the same company would fit pretty much the same. NOPE. A woman with a thick core body and long slender arms would be the perfect shape for these Avalon pullovers. But only if you're not bothered by clingy fabric. If you have muscular shoulders & arms, and prefer a fleece pullover that does not cling.....get the Flight pullover. It's a much nicer garment with a fit that works well for active movement. I own two of the Flight pullovers, and if Kuhl makes more colors, I'll likely order more. These Avalon pullovers? Not so much.
I'm an experienced adventure traveler, and this top went with me to Mongolia for five weeks. I wore it very nearly every single day. There were several features that I very much appreciated: the extreme lightweight nature of the fabric, the fuzzy coziness, and the light extra warm layering. I slept in it, too, for extra warmth in my tent, and it got into the single digits where I was. I loved the kangaroo pocket, and herein is the proviso: it's very easy for things like phones to slip out, which they did. More than once, which caused a fair amount of consternation. While I love this pocket, it was the one source of frustration with the garment, because the fabric by design has no grab. So slick items like phones or cameras slide right out. However that simply meant I had to change where I stashed stuff. Other than that minor complaint, I love this top. And boy did I get it filthy. With the exception of the collar and the pocket, it dried out quickly in the wind and sun when hung from the side of a nomadic ger after a handwashing (you wouldn't have wanted to see the washbin). In all, a superb top. It will be going on many, many more trips in the future.
I live in Wyoming and this winter has been cold. I got this fleece to wear around house and be comfy. I do that in it but also have used it for a casual day at office. It feels very athletic which I love too. Great collar.
