A pretty good start
I have been wearing men's Kuhl pants for years now while camping, recreating, working and handling the elements in the Colorado mountains, in love with the durability, deep hand pockets and excellent leg-side pockets for my phone and wallet -- so I never have to worry about either falling onto the bathroom floor. As a female with a small waist, big hips and thick legs, the fit of the men's pants was never excellent (I wear a 34 or 33 x 34), with too big of a waist size needed to fit my hips and butt, but the pants were fine and practical and better than any of these tight, tiny-pocketed, fashion women's pants. When I saw Kuhl was making a women's pant in the same style as the men's, finally, I gave them a try. They're also fine. The hand pockets are smaller (please god someone tell me why that makes any sense at all), and the fly is way too short, so I have trouble pulling the pants up over my butt and hips. But once they get there, the fit is good, not too tight (though I'd prefer even looser for movement and comfort). I'm so pleased that this company is finally making a heavy duty, hard-working, reinforced, practically pocketed pant intended for female bodies like all the pants they have long made for male bodies. I'm 5'10", muscular and meaty, 150-155, and typically wear a size M or L in women's pants or an 8 or 10 (sometimes a 12 if the sizing is Euro/Asia-small). The 12 in these is the right fit for me. As a side note, I also bought a men's version of the Rydr as well (33x34) and overall still prefer the men's for the deeper pockets and looser fit, despite having to belt up the bigger waist.

*Almost* my perfect pants
For years I've been wanting a version of the Ryder fitted for women, so I was extremely excited to be able to order the W Rydr, and in a shorter pant leg size to boot! (It would have been a shame to have to chop off the bottom part of the leg as it's got such nice detailing.) This model is a workhorse, and I'm SO grateful for a women's pants model with decent pockets! This particular model has pockets galore. The front pockets are made of a stretchy material that I didn't like at first but have come to really appreciate as it's not bulky and doesn't mark the pants. I DO wish the phone hidden pocket was on the same side as the men's model (right side). I don't know why they switched it to the left, but it's very inconvenient if you're right-handed (leftie's—this might be the pant for you!). I also wish the both side pockets, but especially the one on the right, had some sort of inner hidden zipper or velcro for extra protection, since I live in a city rife with pickpockets. Also, NOTE: not a safe place for a phone as it slips out when you crouch... beware toilet dips!

I love the material and it seems really durable and high quality and thick, while still soft to the touch. Really great for both indoor and outdoor work where you have to carry gear, but comfortable enough for everyday use. (I was worried about the fabric because I have other Kühl pants that have degraded in fabric quality over the years—since I buy repeat models, I have clear evidence of this and it's disappointing that my 2-year-old pants are falling apart when my 6-year-old pants, which I use even more frequently, are still close to like-new).

I say Ryders are ALMOST my perfect pants due to the small detail of the pockets, and also, I really, really wish there was a lower waist version of this... just two inches lower would be perfect and would make it easier to fit bodies like mine with wider hips and narrower waists. I hate having my belly button covered anyway, but I especially hate that pants are tight at the hips and loose at the waist... especially for a pant of this type of material, which is stiff, so you can't just solve it with a waist drawstring.

Finally, according to the sizing chart, I am an 8, which is what I got, but I regret not getting the 6, especially after realizing all my other Kühl pants are 6s. It fits perfectly at the hip but is loose everywhere else. Finally, I got the dark brown color (espresso), and it looks darker than the online pictures, but it's a beautiful color nonetheless, a deep, dark brown, and I imagine it will fade to the color you see online with more washes.

A man must have designed these pants
These pants are a marvel of engineering - I could barely get them over my perfectly average-sized thighs because the zipper is short and waist opening is so small, yet once I got them fully on they managed to be huge everywhere, including in the waist. I wish there was a way to chose both "They run small" AND "They run big" for this review. Hands down, these are the worst-fitting work pants I have ever tried on.

too stiff
I'm 5'-11", 160 lbs and ordered a size 12 in the 34" length. The length was great, but the fit was tighter than my size 12 splash roll-up pants, which have some room to spare. The zipper seemed too short for the larger size, as I had to do a shimmy - pull - jerk to get them over my hips. The construction is good and I liked the side pocket to put my phone in and the dark brown color was nice and rich. The big issue is the lack of stretch in the heavy fabric. It is close to none. I had high hopes for these as my everyday winter work pants, but they will be returned because the stiffness makes them too uncomfortable and confining.

Great Pant!
Was looking for a pant that wasn’t all elastic and this fit the bill! I’m 5’5” with an athletic build and usually wear a 4 but based on reviews got an 8 in these and they fit perfectly.

I've had several Kuhl pants
I've had several Kuhl pants that I still wear and love, but the material on these was very stiff, unforgiving, and comfortable despite the fit and sizing being fine.

Small
They run small, so had to return them. They seem to be extremely well constructed, but who cares about the quality if they aren’t the size they claim to be. Or… maybe the fabric is too thick, too layered, too stiff and so they started out being the proper size and ended up being a bit too small (fabric not taken into consideration). Or maybe I just have a huge dumper.
