That's really only when you are holding them up or looking at them standalone. When you put them on the sole, which looks heavy and pulls the shoe down to my eye, blends into the background and is not as prominent. The majority of what you see when wearing them is a nice Marj Jane style flat. These are great for the days you need a dressier shoe than casual however still need the functionality of support.
