SIZING: For best fit we recommend going up a half size
I recently tore my ACL and fractured my ankle and have been looking for a shoe that has suport yet comfort. These shoes are perfect for that. I feel confident running again on trails with these shoes. I will be purchasing different colors very soon! I woul dsuggest going up a half to full size on these shoes. I am normally a size 7 and went with a size 7.5 and it fits great.
I got these shoes specifically for the connectivity so I could use with Zwift on the treadmill. The connectivity is great, much more accurate than the Zwift foot pod, and the shoes are much more comfortable than expected. They do tend to run a bit small, but typical of UA sizing. I wear 1/2 size bigger in UA than other brands & these were no different.
They do run small. I am an 8 and I could have easily fit a 9. I purchased an 8.5 and they fit but I wish I would have went that extra half up. I run and these can give you amazing stats.. I now know my cadence, stride length, pace, etc. I can customize my workouts more and they do offer you “live” tracking on their MapMyRun app, which comes with coaching, so they are Uber impressive when it comes to anything data related. I would not recommend these for distance running and wish I would have gotten the SONICs instead only because these feel a bit heavy for longer runs. I’ve only done 2-3 mile runs but I do plan on going on longer runs once my feet fully adapt and get used to the extra weight. Now obviously these are not cheap. A part of me wishes I would have gone to a specialty running store and got fitted for a pair of Brooks, or something, which probably would be a bit more comfortable and lighter. However, to my knowledge, they are the only ones on the market which can give you a true in-depth look at your runs.. so it becomes a pretty trade off, in my opinion.
My wife and I were foamers before these HOVR shoes came out, but had to try the UA shoes after all the recent changes on the branding. So keep points are:
- After going up a half size, shoe runs big is you choose not to wear an insert, but if you add an insert they will run true to size. - Without an insert, you will feel the outer edge of the sole on your lateral side on foot impact, but an insert removes that issue. - Shoe has perfect amount of response and cushion for serious running. any softer would stress the tarsals and plantar fascia, and harder would make it uncomfortable to run. - I've heard negative comments about the upper ankle part, but the upper is not meant to go sock-less. The purpose is for expansion without a bulky ankle. I wear an ankle sock, no issues.
These are the best pair of running shoes I’ve ever purchased. I love not having to wear a watch or some other type of fitness tracker. These are perfect. I plan on buying myself another pair (in black) for my birthday!
Love the look and style. Runs small. I ordered a size up and that wasn’t enough. Also not as easy to put on as I was expecting. The collar is very tight. Once it’s on it’s very lightweight and comfortable. I would recommend this for narrow feet only
I deal with nerve pain in foot and I am always searching for shoes that allow me to walk in comfort that don’t fail after a few months. This is now my favorite pair I have ever purchased. It is like they are new every time I wear them...day after day! If you are choosy like me, these are the shoes for you
Both my wife and I got a pair of these when they first were released. We love them and probably one of the best pairs of shoes that we have ever owned. They are challenging to put on because their is not a traditional tongue but once they are on, it is like walking on air! Very light, lots of support, and comfort!
The shoe has an overall good design concept. However, the rubber opening that you put your foot through squeezes my ankle throughout the day. After walking a couple of miles, it starts to burn and hurt. Also the mileage tracking was "off". Some days it would count too low and some days it would count too high. Seems to be fine now.
These are a must!!! There is no break in period you put them on and they are heaven on your feet!! The day I got them I ran a half marathon. Any other shoe brand new would have killed my feet and legs. Not these!! I want a pair in every color!! They definitely run small order a size up!!!! I wear an 8 and ordered a 9. They fit just right. Simple to connect...my only problem is remembering to turn on my bluetooth.
I bought the shoe to track (map my run) my activities in and out of the gym teaching my classes, outdoor bootcamps and running club classes on the track. It is a great shoe overall. I do have to wash it alot as the material gets dirty quickly but it does a great job in most activities.
You might need to size up by a half size. I wear 7s in all UA shoes including the HOVR Sonics but I had to buy 7.5 for these. Otherwise the shoes are really great. I think you can feel more cushioning in these shoes than the Sonics. I notice less bounce back when I walk when I wear different shoes now. But I think they are worth the money and being connected and using the app has really helped my running performance.
Very comfortable and retro looking running shoes. The connected feature helps keep me engaged with my workouts and interested in the details of my run. The do run very small. Order at least 1 size larger than what you normally wear.
I purchased these shoes for my wife who is an avid runner and she absolutely loves them! She says they are very comfortable and sturdy. The shoes and the app work flawlessly. She says that being able to track the miles she runs in the app helps push her even harder. She has been running with the shoes for at least a month now and has no complaints. Well worth the money!!!
I am an avid runner who was excited about the technology UA brought with this shoe. Was not disappointed with that aspect. The shoe lacked dynamic support especially on a treadmill run. Noticed early on that the shoe exacerbated my overpronation pattern which after two weeks of wear started bothering my knee. Style and fit was great. Feet felt comfortable and enjoyed how light the shoe is.
I bought these shoes for a 1/2 marathon. During my training last year, I lost a toenail. This year I sized up 1/2 size and bought the Hovers. So far so good. I'm not a high mileage runner, 20 miles or less a week. They are very comfortable, and the footpod links to Map my run seamlessly. I love the coaching feedback.
I love the technology Tracking. Shoes are soft and beautiful colors. Shoes run a size small. The band around the top puts pressure on nerves and foot goes to sleep. I would like the technology tracker to be in all running shoes. Remove the band around ankles and it will be a perfect shoe.
They are uncomfortable, and the cushioning is not very good. If you don't wear the proper socks they will give you a blister due to the poor sock like design. I bought a pair for my wife who is an avid runner and after the first use off to the Goodwill box they went.
Love the feel of this shoe. They run a bit small. Had to order a size up. The comfort and performance are awesome. I run about 5-8 miles a day 5 days a week. The connection feature helps me plan a better run pace. Love, love , these shoes.
I love these shoes they are so cute, and the concept behind the connect is super cool. I have gotten lots of complements on these. I bought these a half size up as recommended and they were snug when I first tried them on. I figured since they are a sock material they would stretch after a few runs. They DO NOT stretch. I got runner's toe/ a purple toe nail from them being to tight on a mid distance run so order at least a size up!
I was pleasantly surprised about this shoe! I am getting back into running after a hiatus and these are perfect for short distances. I find I am lighter on my feet and more aware of my cadence given the slight bounce back.
Overall, I was very surprised about the performance. I am curious to see how long they last as I up my mileage towards a half.
Hubby bought me these shoes for my Mother’s Day gift. I admit I was a bit skeptical at first since I struggled to get them on however once I did, they were by far the most comfortable shoes I have worn in several years. I usually take my shoes off right when I get home, but with these shoes, I didn’t want to take them off.
Hubby ordered my normal 8.5 size and they fit perfectly.
My only issue with these shoes is probably my own fault. I have moderate arthritis in my hands/fingers so I do have difficulty getting these shoes on. Since I can’t open the shoe up and widen the laces like I do with most running shoes, the slip on feature causes me to struggle since the material goes up so high. I’ve had to add a few minutes to my getting ready time when I wear these however it is so worth it. Love the fact that I don’t have to tie them. Bonus!
I do hope UA adds something on the back of these shoes in newer models to help get the material of the shoe up a bit easier. Being able to grab something, like a tag, to help pull the material up an over my heel would help immensely.
I would definitely purchase this style of shoe again!
I was excited to get these shoes, but was disappointed with the fit. The sizing ran small, and I didn't feel the support that I wanted to expect from these shoes. However, after I returned and exchanged them for a larger size, but not connected, I think I can add them into my shoe rotation. Since I don't have the connected technology, I think these will work best with interval training rather than longer runs. I have put in over 15k on these shoes, but I just expected more comfort in them.
I got these in my normal running size... an eight, and they were to snug for my running taste. I exchanged them for an 8.5 and I am not sure if I got a bad pair or what but the fit was TERRIBLE one mile into my run I swore I developed blisters on the sides of both of my big toes.. After mile three I wish I had some shoes to change into because I was done. Just walking in them after was hard because my feet felt raw, I contemplated walking in my socks but its still cold where I live
I love the connected part. I didn't even open the app for my run and it still tracked it which was great. I run in the city so there are lots of stop lights. My pace was soooo off, because I am assuming the shoes did not stop when I did.
I do have a pair of sonic's that I love I think I will just see if they will let me exchange them because I know I will not be running in these phantoms again.
On the bottom of my foot these shoes are VERY comfortable and running they feel great. They do run very small and I suggest ordering a full size up. If you are not used to wearing this material running show they will take some time to get used to and feel "tight" or "fitted" on the top of your foot. They are very supportive and the elastic around the ankle helps with stability.
They are a complete replacement for a wristband and are much more accurate than a wristband (which I have noticed log steps when I am sitting down or driving) - the HOVR seems to only log steps when you are actually stepping.
These shoes are a bit heavier than I would like for running, but maybe that is the cost of support. My only recommendation to UA would be to try to make the next round a bit lighter and expand the color selection.
I would order a 1/2 size larger the next time I order a pair. The pair I have is a size larger than my regular shoes. So the ua shoes are about a size and a half smaller than my actual size. Very annoyed that the sizing is so far off. I have ran for 30 years and always wear a 7 running shoe. My husband bought me a pair of 7’s which I returned and ordered a 7 1/2 and they are tight. I like the connection information provided by the shoe. Overall I feel this shoe is a quality running shoe. Definitely not the best shoe I have ever ran in.
First off, DEFINITELY go up a full size from your street shoes. I always go up a half size in my running shoes, so when I read the recommendation to go up a half size I assumed that was what I always do, and ordered my normal running shoe size 9 (I wear 8.5 in regular shoes). Too small. So back they went and I ordered the 9.5. Got them out of the box and the 9.5 fit perfectly. I do like the way the upper fits and feels, snug like a stretchy sock. If I just wanted these for running around street shoes, they would be super. But these are supposed to be performance running shoes with the premium price to go with them. It was tricky getting them connected. My phone (iPhone 7) had trouble "locating" them. I could see they were connected in my bluetooth settings but Map My Run wasn't showing they were connected. Turns out they were, but for some reason they wouldn't register on Map My Run until I tried to connect them and reconnect them several times. Once I got that sorted, I took them for a run. As soon as I started running I could tell they did not have enough cushion or stability for me. I wasn't even a mile into my run when my knee "noped." OUCH. Limped back home walking slowly and immediately wrapped them back up and sent them back.
Love the concept, and I adore anything that gives me stats and tracking. But ultimately they have to be a supportive running shoe. And they're not. So sad.
I have a pair of UA Sonic and Phantom. Love them both! The Phantom is a bit hard to get into but well worth it. I forget I have shoes on. Comfortable, fits like a glove. Based on reviews I ordered a 1/2 size larger then sent it back because they left a big space behind my heel. Ordered again in my shoe size and the fit is perfect. I love the connected feature - keeps me on track with my workouts- no excuses and fun to track and look back.
So I wrote a detailed, comprehensive review that was rejected so I am submitting again.
Here's what you need to know:
They are not as comfortable as you think because the memory foam is too thin in my opinion compared to other shoes that I had in the past. I definitely feel that these are average in comfort so I removed a star for that reason.
I also do not feel a "return" to make me bounce in the air better.
I feel they were easy to put on.
With running shoes, you are supposed to go up a half size. So with these running smaller I was wondering if I needed to go from an 8 to a 9. However, I settled on the 8.5. It has worked well. My normal shoe size is an 8 and my old running shoes as an 8 gave me runner's toe, which is a bruised or sore toe. I no longer get that.
Other than that, I like the app and have been running well. I like that it picks up my cadence, stride, and gives me coaching. I can actually set the pace I want to keep so if I want to try to finish with a 10 minute mile, it helps me. I can also set it to help me to beat the previous run. Very cool.
Hands down, best running shoes I've ever owned. I used to be an avid runner and am trying to get back into it. These are helping me. They help propel me forward, they are super comfortable, they truly lift me up and help get me through my workout. Very much looking forward to seeing what more these shoes can do.
Really like these shoes and find them extremely responsive; support where it's needed, great cushioning, and almost becomes a second skin to your foot. Based on other reviews bought a half size up from my normal shoe size and it was just right. The one design flaw for me; it takes an eternity to put them on. Although the size is perfect once I get them on, a looped tab is needed on the back to pull up the back part of the sock feature. Hopefully, when I'm ready to purchase the next pair, the tab is there!
Definitely order 1/2 size up. Good shoe very comfortable. Only down fall shoe does not breathe well feet get hot while running. My right show was not level either it rocks front to back (like it was cut uneven) but I didn't want to send back and have to wait for new pair. Would order again
I have an addiction when it comes to shoes and have just gotten back into running again and these shoes have me so excited to keep pushing my distance. I have a lot of UA running shoes and thought they were all nearly perfect until these came. They feel amazing just to wear or to run in and I hate taking them off. The map my run features are really cool too. Definitely order the half size bigger like they recommend.
As a "shoe nerd" and marathon runner I was really excited to try these shoes from UA!
I loved the way they felt straight out of the box but even more so I liked how they felt on longer runs. The upper hugs your foot in all the right places and the cushioning system felt great. They fit true to size IMO. I typically wear an 8 in regular shoes and a 9 in running shoes. I went with the 9 and they were the perfect fit.
To be honest, the shoes are so comfortable + fashionable that I don't want to take them off after my run! They will definitely stay in my rotation for 13.1/26.2 training this year.
I got these shoes for frequent, roughly 5-mile runs and they are perfect. The cushioning is incredibly soft and comfortable when walking, but still feels responsive and supportive when running. The knit top of the shoe also feels snug and adds to the support. I love the way they look, so sometimes I wear them all day and don't have to pack running shoes for a later run. I typically wear a 7.5 in normal shoes and an 8 in running shoes, but I went up to an 8.5 in these. The connection to Map My Run worked very well. It easily connects when you buy the shoe and tracked my runs accurately without even needing my phone with me.
