It feels like you can stuff an infinite amount of gear into it. It's light, durable, stretchy, accessible, simple and versatile. Mystery Ranch really struck gold with this design. But unfortunately there is one fatal flaw holding it back: the shoulder straps.\r\n\r\nListen, I know they were going for some kind of running vest / light day pack type of thing, and I get that, but this pack can do so much more, and it can be so much more! It carries my entire 25lb overnight kit on my weekly hiking trips. I have a Coulee 40 and a Goruck GR1, but I never use them because this pack is so much better. This is clearly more than just a light day pack, it’s a jack of all trades Goldilocks rucksack.\r\n\r\nBut I had to buy aftermarket shoulder pads, and that is especially sad because I know Mystery Ranch makes incredibly comfortable shoulder straps on, as far as I can tell, ALL of their other packs!\r\n\r\nIt makes no sense! It's like Beethoven composing a symphony and ending it with a fart! It’s outrageous! It's unjust! How could you do this to the Gallagator? Don't you understand that this is the Jesus of backpacks? I’m slamming my fist on my desk as I write this.\r\n\r\nSo my advice to Mystery Ranch is this: make a 30L version of this pack, with well-padded shoulder straps. I’ve taken it on a few hikes now and it’s awesome. The straps are wide so it’s very comfortable. It holds everything we need for my family of three to go on a day of hiking, with room to store cold weather gear if needed. \r\n\r\nThere is no waist strap, which I thought might be a problem, but the clips across the chest provide plenty of support to offset and balance the weight. \r\n\r\nPockets on the side hold 32oz Nalgene bottles but larger items will fit.
