Either they rubbed along the tongue, or the heel, no matter what size I tried. I've owned a couple pairs of hiking shoes and some sandals that easily lasted 10 years with lots of use and were very comfortable, therefore I thought online ordering would be no problem but I was so wrong. \n\nPainful rubbing of the tongue and both sides of each foot. I don't have any foot issues and my feet are average width. I was so disappointed. So cute, lightweight and waterproof. No breaking in required. I bought mine at REI so I could try them on. I love that they are light weight like a softer sneaker but have great traction and are stiff on the sole but not too much. It's a good fit for me. Some reviews said they aren't really waterproof and some say they work fine in the rain. I got these to wear in rainy Scotland this fall. They are so cute and lightweight and I thought they would be the perfect trail shoe for me for hiking, but no matter what size I tried on, they rubbed uncomfortably when I walked. I tried on multiple pairs in different sizes in the store and either they were too big, but rubbing in the tongue area against the top of my foot, or the right size and rubbing in the heel/achilles area. I walked the dog (about a mile or so) and noticed it was rubbing on the top of my right foot from the tongue, and I was getting a bit of rub on the back of my left heel.\n\nSo I added an arch support insole and that made them feel like the right snugness for my feet. Until I walked about 3 city blocks back and forth to an event that night and ended up getting a blister on my left achilles/heel area and a sore spot on the top of my right foot from where the tongue rubbed my skin the wrong way (even after adjusting it multiple times).\n\nI can tell the shoe is made well, is very sturdy and should hold up well to hiking, but they were sadly detrimental toward my feet. I like the color, kind of gold and beige shoe laces. The aren't full of foam that usually breaks up and way, The padding is in the sole which adds stability. The sole have good tread and in Wisconsin that keeps you from slipping around on ice. They are warmer that the rotten Asics that I was trapped in for a year.
