I bought them three months ago and tried to give them time to break in (which I've never had to do with any Columbia shoes before) but they're just uncomfortable. I added an insole to try to make them better but I've worn then 10-12 times now any my feet hurt for hours when I'm done. My 3 star is based on my observations and opinion of other Columbia and other brands: \n1. Fit it true to my standard size across brands \n2. Footbed is less comfortable to me as compared to other shoes owned in the MSRP range of $100+ \n3. Compared ot my 3yr old Crestwood waterproof hikers: \n\n3a. they are less constrained (happier foot) but the footbed seems very mediocre and less supportive - IMO \n\n3b. Materials appear less pliable and IMO \"cheaper\". Maybe I haven't broken them in fully but have worn them 20+ times and they seem no better material wise than a pair of \"no name\" $35 hikers bought at another retailer. \n\n3c. Tread is fairly slick and haven't been overly grippy. For me, my Crestwood's were never overly grippy on smooth damp surfaces but the Strata's appear far more slick to me. This AM we had heavy fog and misting on a cool ground and I personally felt I was walking a bit more cautiously on both asphalt and concrete. \n\n3d. I haven't tried them in heavy or puddle conditions, mostly from house to store or work and back. So I can't speak towards their water resistance. \n\n3e. tread/footbed seems to be a lower quality material, seem to me \"plasticy\" and hope they get a bit \"worn\" looking because to me - they just somewhat look cheap. I figure they'll soften up a bit in look over time and maybe why I've only worn them 20 or so times in 2 months. \n\nOverall these are decent shoes, look nice (to me) but simply don't wow me for what Columbia lists as a ~$120 MSRP. Given other brands available in that range, I'd buy a set of Merrill's or other premium brand even though I picked these up at a significant discount. \n\nMy 3yr old Crestwoods were/are for me a far better choice, I'd go back to them before considering the Strata again. I'd highly recommend comparing them physicalliy next to other Columbia or other brand trail shoes. I would rate these at 2 stars but at their sale price they seem a level higher than the no name $35 shoes noted above - hence upping to 3stars. However IMO not near the MSRP of $120 and I'd claim for me they're just not near the build quality for fit and material as the Crestwoods. I bought my Crestwoods at nearly the same price and would recommend them well above the Strata.\n\nFinal note, I did add \"nicer\" insoles to my cheap $35 shoes which make them very comfy. I may upgrade those that came in the Stratas, but I will give them a bit more time break in. The first pair of Mid-rise hiking shoes where two narrow even thought I bought my usually 10.5W, so they were returned. I picked these out instead and have not been satisfied with the fit even after a two month break-in period. They are so rigid around the ankle that they rub your skin raw even with a thick pair of socks. They also impinge on my achilles tendon on the backside of the ankle.
