However in practice, its efficacy is still in question. There are no instructions on how to break the dog into its use, and I have had bad results from the hawk cry mode so far. My GSP will hold her points forever, but when the hawk cry goes off, it so startles her that she breaks her point and comes running back to my side. There is no volume control on the unit, and it truly is very loud. I then began using the run/point beeper mode, and this, after starting with her running back to me and heeling by my side continually with the beeper going off every 7-8 seconds in the run mode. This has thankfully evolved into her being back to herself working the field, pointing and holding it with the beeper then going off in two quick bursts telling me she has locked up on a bird. This is great when she is in deep cover and cannot be seen. So, I cannot give this unit a strongly positive review to-date.
