Unbelievable
This is a freakin great combo.. no problems and it cast great! Not sure how it gets bad reviews or breaks on first cast other than they drop it several times first!

Pichin stick is garbage
Ruined a great day to fish with my 5 year old! Button hangs up often, bigger problem pin in reel will not pickup line even when I pull tension on it so it catches as soon as I let go it drops it. Really disappointed they would put this on the market.

Terrific Addition To My Kit
I bought the Pitchin' Stik as an addition to my kit for when using my fly gear (two Shakespeare WonderRods, a Shakespeare 1094 reel and a Shakespeare Tru Art Silent Automatic Reel isn't possible or practical, or for when I just want to use larger lures.

Right out of the package the Pitchin' Stick works as it should. It casts well, and retrieves smoothly. The only downside I've noticed is that the included line may be a bit too light. It tends to curl and can easily tangle if you're not paying attention. This can be remedied by replacing the stock line with a slightly heavier type. The only other potential problem is that the internal construction of the reel is plastic. This isn't an issue at the moment, but I can see the gears wearing out, or another part breaking due to a drop, etc.. I prevented this by mounting an all-metal Shakespeare Wondercast 1773 Reel on the rod.

That being said, I have had nothing but good experiences with this combo, and have introduced my nephew to fishing with it! I expect I'll be buying him his own Pitchin' Stick for Christmas. This is a terrific combo to keep in the truck or in your rod case - get it out and you're ready to fish in a jiffy! It's also a great choice for youngsters who are a bit too "grown up" for the cartoon character rod and reel combos! This is a great product and highly recommended!

A good rod
It is very flexible tip to hook fish quickly. It is also strong and stands up to snags. The line is strong for 6 lbs and invisible in the water. The Dock Demon which is a similar rod, is stiffer and slower to hook fish.

Disbelief
We bought the pitchin stik with the 6 LB line on it a few days before mothers day 2019. The day before mothers day my 14 year old grandaughter and I were fishing in my BassTender 10.2 boat on the tallapoosa river in Wedowee Al. I put a crawdad lure on the pitchin stik for her to use. In a little while she told me she was hung on something and then shouted she had a fish. She started reeling it in and the drag was too light and so I reached over and tightened it more. The pole then bent nearly in a 180 degree bend as she strained to reel in the fish. I then thought she was hung on something for sure. Then the boat started being pulled around some. She fought the fish for a few minutes and I had the net ready for what ever she brought up. Then the fish rolled broke the water about a foot from the boat and I got the net under it fast and got it into the boat. To my surprise it was a very large cat fish the she had caught with the lure. I had caught one early that morning on a rattle trap in the same area.I had never heard of them biting a lure. Here are a few pictures of us and her fish. I didn't think to get a measurement or weight but I would guess over 10 pounds. Its was a big thrill for her and I. Thanks for making a great little rod. sincerly, PaPa Joe

worked beyond expectations!
Just purchased this little combo and caught several largemouth bass. 3,4 and a 5 pounder were some of them. The drag worked flawlessly and casts far as well! A heap of fun for such a small price. Well done Shakespeare!.

What a joke. Wouldn’t cast. Just another example of what Shakespeare has become.
