Using the regular plastic bag and tying each night, putting in the back of the truck (if we were adventuring in our camper) or the garage of the van (if on a road-trip with the van) seemed to be working just fine. We could deal with the leaks, etc. But gosh, have we realized how much easier this is to keep trash contained. And when the leaks happen, it is so easy to just hose out and clean at the end of a trip! I use it to carry firewood in and trash and the odiferous groover out while camping and floating rivers. The Trash Pak admirably serves these purposes and is solidly built to do so for years to come.\r\n\r\nI've used Kelty products for decades and have never been disappointed. All are still serviceable, most under frequent use. The two types I use the most are the Bestie & Biggie blankets and the Sun Shades. Regarding the latter, I bring them on float trips as a group amenity, and usually use them as my tent after the campfire is out. It was super easy to set up and I love how you can put a bag in for recycling and one for garbage. It is so spacious. This is a gamechanger for life on the road. I won't have to worry about stinky garbage in my van. And I have a place to put my recyclables too. ","text":"I purchased this item in 2021 and have used it for a total lifespan of around 3-4 months. This means that it has been \"outside\" attached to my spare tire for that time duration of 3-4 months. The product was great while I used it during that duration, however, I've recently noted that the product is no longer usable. The life for the Trash Pak is now hardened and \"crunchy\", whereas it used to be soft and malleable. Whenever I flip the lid open to access the compartment the now hardened lid falls apart making the Trash Pak unusable. The water resistance is no longer valid. \r\n\r\nI chatted with customer support and asked if this was considered normal. When I explained to them that I've used the product for only 3-4 months AND that the product is falling apart, they responded by saying \"3-4 months of continuous use in the elements.\" is considered a normal life expectancy. I also received snarky comments such as \"It looks like it's been to the elements for a long period of time.\" by Shannon and \"It does look like normal wear and tear to me\" by Amber. \r\n\r\nI have nothing more to say. My only complaint is the straps stretch considerably when wet. \r\n\r\nCombine a full bag with wet conditions and it’s a game of “wrestle the trash bag” to tighten those straps. When the straps dry, they shrink back and become taught as guitar strings, requiring re-adjusting of straps. We used it for hauling all kinds of 'extra' stuff that we didn't want in the vehicle with us including our 5lb propane tank. Sadly, I just noticed two cuts in the bottom while cleaning up from our recent trip. I'm betting this was from the propane tank. I wish I had put an extra layer of padding down to cushion the bottom. So that's a tip for you all.
