Squirrels don't chase themselves. Make sure your pup stays warm as they do what they have to do. This chore coat for dogs is made with Carhartt's firm-hand duck, which fights off wind and light rain. The tabs at the neck and chest make it easy to put on, and the signature corduroy collar keeps the look classic.
12-ounce, firm-hand, 100% ringspun cotton duck
Quilted nylon lining for warmth and easy on and off
Corduroy-trimmed collar tucks into coat
Two rivet-reinforced pockets; Carhartt label swen on pocket
Our dog had to get surgery this winter and we are in Wisconsin - so I was worried about the cold with all the fur they had shaved off his one side. This coat kept his core warm. Very easy to put on and take off (thank goodness, because he is 90 pounds and when I say we are going for a walk... he is at the door ready to go). He looked GREAT in it and it did not get in the way.
My Doggo loves this coat and is by far his favorite - he still stops as we are heading outside to have it put on. I think he walks with a little more attitude when wearing it. A medium fits a 33# beagle perfectly (he's not chubby, he's sturdy).
I have two dogs, a sm/md hound and a thin, barrel chested md sheppard. Sadly, I haven't actually found anything that fits my sheppard properly and thats the case here, medium is too small and large she swims in.
So this review is for the hound. He is a perfect fit in a medium and I believe he weighs around 33-36lbs. The girls at the coffee stands absolutely think he is adorable, which is true. I love the jacket and so does he. but what is frustrating is the velcro straps have worn out in about 4 months of heavy use. I do believe thats partly on my end because they really are hard on jackets and harnesses. That said, I wish the jackets included two brass buttons or snaps in additon to the velcro to help prevent snags ripping the straps apart when they play and run in the forest. If you are not going to use this every day, or the dogs are not 2 and 3 years old at the dog park multiple times a week, like mine, I fully recommend this jacket. It is great, it just isn't up to real heavy, rough use for more than a few months. The teeth of the velco just start to pull out over time and then there are not enough left to hold it seccure.
I will buy again, but im a little bummed about it. the jacket has a nice patina to it... there should also be an access hole for a harness loop to pass through, but there isn't. I really look forward to the next generation of dog jackets.
The chores coat is an exceptional dog jacket for a larger dog such as a lb etc. I would highly recommend this for people that have ranches and farms, where your dog will be exposed to high winds and cold temperatures. Only one dislike. The velcro straps that hold the coat on the dog need to be set back just before the pocket. They are currently too close to the head of the dog and it cause shifting and twisting of the coat. It can be an easy fix for the design team. once we relocate the strap we will send pics.
Super easy to get on my dog who doesn’t ever sit still or cooperate,. We got it for him because he shivered when outside during the winter. Plus, we knew it was going to super cute on him. More money than I wanted to spend on a dog coat but 100% worth it.
We love it! The 3 pups love it! I wash them in cold water and hang them out to dry.
We customized it. We took it to a leather shop, since they have a heavy duty sewing needles, and added a black canvas strip with a “D” ring. We hook the leash on that. We sewed in in the center of the back between the collar and the next seam, in the flat area. Now it functions as a harness with the leash. Our 3 dachshunds LOVE their coats!
This coat is very durable and easy to put on take off. As long as you keep the velcro relatively clean it does not seem to "wear out" like some others stated. Use our size large coat for our 80lb pit/boxer mix every single day this winter and it has held up wonderfully. I had thought it might feel a little thicker/warmer based on the pictures, but our dog does not seem to be bothered by even the more extreme temps.
This coat is the perfect weight and durability for my Boston Terrier. Living in Western NY, the winters can be brutally cold for a dog with such short hair but with this coat he stays warm outside, he can do his business without worry of getting the coat wet, and it stays put when we take long walks. We will have this coat a long time unlike many of the cheaper dog coats we have purchased. The only thing I would add is a zipper on the back for a harness or collar.
I went by the measurements and ordered a size larger. The coat/jacket barely fit. I ordered a large while measurements indicated a medium. It was too short in length down the back and to short on the sides. The coat was not very warm for the outside use. I expected more of a coat than a jacket .
My dog loves it, He is a pit bull mix and weighs about 60 lbs. The large fit him pretty good ( the length is perfect and it goes around his big chest really well ) , however,,,,, the front flap - it would be nice if there was a snap or a button for the excess Velcro so it's not dangling around . I am currently using a big safety pin to keep it close to him . It's easy to put on the dog also . I love how the water just falls right off and the fur collar is cute and goes around his neck to keep him warm :):) Also the burrs don't stick to it ...which is a bonus !!! Yes I would recommend it to a friend to buy one
I love love love this coat. 100% recommend. Unfortunately, our dog is between sizes so we had to return them. For reference, he is a 20lb terrier. The small was too small and the medium was way too big.
I have an American bully and it's always a hassle to find coats that fit him since of his stocky build but this jacket was perfect for him he fits perfectly and it's great for most days since it's not super heavy but keeps them warm. my only issue was that the velcro wore out fairly quickly but other than that I've had the jacket for like 2 years and it's still strong.
This thing is Great! Our GSP shivers in the cold and we tried some other coats before this one arrived. Nothing really worked. We put it on in the snow and also when it gets a little chilly outside and she loves it. The other day we were setting up our new coup and she was shivering due to the windy day. We slapped on the Chore coat and she was runny everywhere!
The day after the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl, I needed a lift. My brother drives a rural route for UPS and has several furry friends who wear Carhartt coats. He had sent a picture the week before and I knew our Kerry Blues needed to keep up with the farm dogs. Very happy with them. Great for those -31 degree days.
Nice coat. If your dog is tall/lean you might have trouble finding one that fits.
The large fits perfectly on my 60lb Belgian Malinois. My Dutch Shepherd is the same weight but is a lot more tall/lean and the large is too wide around the chest. The medium fits better, but is a little short.
