I love this jacket. It's a bit thinner than I thought it was going to be and slightly shorter. But it looks great and I always get compliments on the look and the color. When I first saw this jacket, I thought there was something familiar about it. Then my wife saw it when I took it out of the package and put it on. She said it looks like a Members Only jacket it from the 80's. I immediately said, you hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what it reminded me of. But, I have to say I loved those jackets.
My only real gripes are there are no inside pockets and I wish the breast pockets were a bit deeper to put a phone inside it.
I was unsure about sizing so I called and, on the advice of the customer service representative (and the fact that XXL was out of stock), I went with an XL. Way to small. I normally wear an XL but I also have larger arms and shoulders. So given the snug fitting design, it wasn't even close. Turns out that it fit my son perfectly (he normally wears a Large). So order a size up. Outside of that, it's now going to be a Christmas gift so I can't give a realistic review at this time.
First, I am a 5’ 4” 120 pound female wearing a size small. The fit is fantastic and it looks great. I would definitely buy it again. It replaces a similar jacket made by Kuhl for women that I purchased several years ago, and is better in some predictable ways. Mainly, the improvements have to do with pockets, which Kuhl persists in thinking women don’t need. My previous women’s version had only very shallow, not very functional pockets whereas the pockets in this current jacket are quite adequate for carrying passports and other gear as needed. This makes it a great travel jacket. It’s also a bit more substantial than the previous women’s version. However, it’s not completely devoid of typical Kuhl shenanigans: 1. It’s difficult for me to understand how they can make a jacket that is so clearly in the field/safari/utility/travel genre and not include any interior pockets. A couple interior chest pockets would have been great. If they really wanted to be on top of the game, three or four interior body pockets and a concealed back pocket of the kind seen in some travel vests would have been brilliant. I’d have happily paid twice the price to get that jacket. 2. Kuhl doesn’t seem to know about two-way zippers, but they really are essential in my estimation. So much so, that when I return from this trip I’m going to see if I can get someone to install one in this jacket; again, this is an added expense and hassle that I would just have preferred Kuhl to take care of from the beginning. Even if it I added a few bucks to the cost of the jacket. These complaints are not minor, and they really impact the functionality of what is otherwise a beautiful and functional jacket.
I tried this jacket on in Go Out doors and realised straight away that this was the jacket I was always after. My daughter paid me a complement and said you really need to buy it. I did not go out to buy this jacket but delighted to come home with it. It fits perfectly and looks great.
Almost perfect; one minimal but annoying design shortcoming
I like this jacket so much, I bought a second one. I cannot fault the design, except for one minimal shortcoming, and even better is the quality of construction and finish, down to the last detail. My one disappointment is the dimensions of the external breast pockets, which are just shy of being deep enough to contain my smartphone (an Apple iPhone 11 Pro) and to be able to fasten the flap meant to cover the contents of the pocket. The only solution other than to make this small alteration to the cutting and fitting, would be to add an internal storage pocket on either side... but preferably both sides. This shortcoming seems to be one of the rare times that Kühl designers lost their concentration and analytical skills (I have several other Kühl garments).
I purchased this jacket to wear to the office in the spring and fall in the mountains. It provides the perfect temperature regulation and I don’t feel ‘bundled up’ at the office. I also get compliments every time I wear it.
I don’t know if I can handle looking this good! Great attention to detail. All features, especially buttons, are rugged, innovative and classy. I am glad I paid attention to commenters who said they run small. I was going to order a small, but the medium fits exactly right.
Loved this jacket so much I purchased a second one after 4 years , only because it got so dirty from working in it all the time ! It’s still in great shape and doing it’s job but I needed a new shiny one for special occasions 😃. Lol
Once I settled on XL, I was all set. It fit and looks great and was exactly what I was looking for. I travel for work and wanted a light and versatile jacket that could pack easily, keep the chill off, and protect me from a brief shower.
I bought this jacket while on a work trip. A colleague was wearing it and I immediately hit the web site to snag one for myself. I was initially worried it wouldn’t fit the same. I’m a bigger guy than he is. But it fits exactly the same and looks great!
My husband loves this light weight unlined Oil cloth Jacket.
This is our second purchase. We Purchased this jacket first time on a family trip 6 years ago and it was his favorite - recently he lost it right before the Texas ice storms and he was so upset...we looked every where and I mean everywhere! Finally gave up looking for it and started to tracked down the original purchase from a photo taken on our trip. We both remembered the beautiful day we visited and experienced the small town of Durango Colorado with our 2 kids, in the photo he’s wearing the jacket ( bought it and wore it out of the store ) but carrying a Bag from Overland - so I started there - contacted them and they were soooo helpful , tracked down find the original transaction with the style name, color and size - can you believe it! ? They didn't carry the jacket anymore but directed me to the KUHL website. Just amazing! Can’t believe they still made it - so many years later - thats how wonderful it is!!!! It’s light weight but substantial. We live in Texas so its the perfect weight for here all winter. He’s 6’2 and 200 lbs , he wears a XL , it’s roomy enough to wear layers under or over a light sweater.
Had my Kollusion for two years in the Pacific Northwest. Used mainly as a hiking/outdoors jacket
Good Stuff I like this jacket. The overall construction is top quality. The wax impregnated material is fairly resistant to moisture, which is a big deal here in the Pacific Northwest. The sleeves are a great length and I love the different snap fit sizes. It's a comfortable jacket to wear. The stow away hood that is adjustable is a nice touch as well, but like most of this jacket, just a hair too small.
Bad stuff The jacket is small. Like, a size too small and has a very athletic fit to it. If you have any kind of gut at all, or intend to wear layers underneath this jacket, go at least one size up. The hand warming pockets are OK in size unless you are wearing gloves, Then they are too small. The outer pockets would benefit greatly from being expandable. Instead, they are more for show then actually stowing any kind of items. If you fit anything besides a piece of paper in the lower pockets, then you can't use the hand warming pockets. The pockets are snap close except the hand warmers. They also have no drain holes. Consequently, during a good rainfall, you can end up with a pocket full of water. Yes, it happened. Continuing with the pockets- I would love one or two interior pockets, preferably big enough for a cell phone and wallet, with a zipper to keep them in place. The hood is adequate, but don't try to wear a woolcap or ball cap underneath it. It won't fit. There is no liner or insulation in this jacket. If you intend on wearing any kind of liner, sweater, etc. under the jacket, go at least one size up. I really like the sleeve length and fit, but the jacket could benefit 100% from a couple grommets or even armpit zippers in the arm pit area. I'd also like to see armpit gussets, because every time I raise my arms, the entire bottom of the jacket raises too. Finally, the material itself is a bit on the thin side. I've already worn down the elbows and shoulders on my jacket.
Overall, it's a good jacket that looks great if you are just trying to look good, or maybe wear it to/from your car during rain. If you are looking for a portable, lightweight, rain jacket for outdoor use in camping/hiking situations, I'd look elsewhere. Jacket has a lot of potential if Khul decides to do something more with it.
It's simply not warm/thick enough for anything other than a warm climate. The jacket has no inner lining whatsoever, and just feels like a slightly thicker button down shirt, I don't even think I'd call it a jacket. No warmer than a fleece, doesn't block wind. Would be ok if you layer under it, but I bought the jacket to just throw it on over a shirt, not to layer and use it only as an outer shell. Probably only warm enough for 50-55+ F with no wind. I would try the fleece lined version, but I don't want the hood and it doesn't have good colors. I expected this jacket to at least have some sort of inner lining you would expect in a spring/fall jacket, so it was warm enough for 40F. It does not. I'm returning it.
It's a shame because I love the style and fit. Very sharp looking, well sized to fit to my body. Not baggy or tenty in the arms/torso like some other jackets I've tried. I am 5'11" 155 lbs and ordered a small.
Great versatile jacket but I absolutely hate the color I got it in, I picked it up in the store thinking it was green but it's more of a brown (I'm pretty colorblind). I got the Turkish coffee color and I'm hoping it'll wash out to be a more wearable color, I'm having a difficult time finding anything that goes with it
Love this jacket! And have received several compliments while wearing it. It’s a jacket that will need a layer or two, if really cold. I live in Southern California, so perfect for weather out here. No complaints on this one.
A stylish and comfortable jacket that you can wear at your leisure or in a business casual setting. I have received lots of compliments on the jacket and would recommend the Kollusion jacket to anyone!
Love your styles and quality but unfortunately the length at the waste are too short in both styles I tried. I had purchased a jacket about 10 years ago and was looking to replace it but the cuts now seem to be shorter at the waste. Arm length and quality very generous and good. I was disappointed I needed to return them.
I already own the carbon and I loved it so much that I had to get the raven. The jacket kept me dry and warm (with layers underneath) in 35 degree rainy days in Germany and France. The hideaway hood is great, it’s windproof and it boast many pockets.
I really wish this jacket was all I was hoping for, but unfortunately it feels unfinished. With no interlining and no interior pocket this very sharp looking jacket can't be seen as anything but a fashion accessory.
