I bought a pair of waterproof Moab 2 Waterproof shoes a couple of years ago. I don't use them for hiking, but more for daily wear. They have been fantastic! One great thing is the durability. They are holding up great. The soles are much, much tougher wearing than the competitor's shoes they replaced. Over time, the insoles mold to your foot, providing more comfort and support. My only real issue has been that over time, they seem to have lost their waterproofness. If I wear them with dew on the grass, the toes of my socks end up soaked through. That's kind of a bummer because that is exactly why I paid extra for the waterproof version.
Squeaky!! Feel like materials were not properly secured. .
I've worn MOABs for years. But the past two pair I've purchased (including this most recent pair) are "squeaky" right out of the box. Not just a cute little mouse variety squeak, but a full on flatulant-mimiking SQUEAK! Not sure if the materials are no longer being fastened properly anymore or just a decrease in quality control, but the noise is so distracting it gets comments from other people walking in the same hallway. I stopped wearing them. Sending them back. Don't get me wrong, "functionally" they're still some of the best shoes around, but Merrell needs to address this issue as I am not the only one writing reviews about this.
True to size, and comfortable out of the box. I've only done a few dog walks so far, so I can't speak to durability, traction on loose ground, or waterproof effectiveness. I will update review if I have any issues, but so far, so good.
I am old and I work out. Running shoes, weightlifting shoes you name it. Brought a bunch of them to walk around Disney World! Suffered knee pain, hip pain, foot pain. Walking the streets near home same thing. Bought the above shoes. How incredible! Walked a MILE with no pain! These shoes are well made, well engineered and were so helpful! The gym is open again, the lifting shoes come off when we have to walk! Buying another pair of Merrells as soon as I can!
I previously rated this shoe and gave it a four star rating. These shoes really did deserve a five star rating after all the times the kept my feet dry and comfortable while wearing these shoes outside. I needed to a half size up from my usually size. I also needed to buy the wide version.
I have been wearing this style Merrell's for over ten years. I picked up another pair that was on sale. These shoes are very comfortable and provide the kind of support I need. I ordered a 13 wide due to my feet swelling from time to time. Even with the occasional foot swelling, these shoes still provide the comfort and stability I need. I wouldn't buy any other brand. Very satisfied with Merrells.
I have purchased 4 of these exact shoes because of how well that they fit and feel. It is difficult to find shoes that are actually "wide" and are exactly the same year after year. Plus, they last me at least a year, great product!
I purchased these shoes and within a week i had very wet feet. Extremely disappointed. I was only walking through wet grass.. it wasn't even raining at the time. I wanted these to be my every day dog walking shoes ... through puddles, trails, slush and light snow. It was a huge waste of money. They are comfortable but I don't understand how MERRELL can claim shoes are waterproof when they are NOT> I HATE HAVING WET FEET!
Just retired my 1st pair of Moab Waterproofs - got 5 years out of them and truly beat them up! They stayed looking great and comfortable to the last minute. Just got my new Moab 2 Waterproofs and very excited! I went from a 9.5 regular width to a 9 wide on the new ones, be careful the Moab 2’s are not cut as wide as the original Moabs. Love these and would not wear anything else daily in my active life. The Waterproof is great for water, rain, mud and snow. Thank you for a great shoe!
I have been wearing Merrell hiking shoes/boots for many years now and have always been pleased with the fit...durability...comfort...and value. I have currently completed over 1500 miles of the Appalachian Trail and am on my third pair. These shoes felt great from the first time I wore them. I have tried other brands but keep coming back to Merrell.
I’ve worn Merrell now for.. decades. They are a good shoe. Durable. Comfortable. Good hiking shoes and boots. Good general everyday shoe. And I beat the crap out of them. I do not take care of them. I leave them in the open sun, wind, rain, snow, ice, dirt, gravel, grass, barns, shops, under my car and back over them.... I wear them in mud. I wear them pouring concrete. Paving. Off roading. Hiking. Throw them in the back of pickup trucks. Back of jeeps. Drag them. Forget them for a month in the grass. Play fetch with my dogs. Take them off and throw them at raccoons chasing me... they are a good shoe - Plain and simple. I’m just on here to buy my next pair after thoroughly getting every last mile out of one of my current pair of shoes that have holes big enough for gravel to get in. They are 8 years old. I can not believe they are even close to being held together at this point. On to a new pair.
I just love this shoe. I have a hard time finding a good shoe for hiking as I need a wide width. This shoe fits the bill. An added benefit is the waterproofing which comes in good use here in the Inland Northwest, both during my summer hikes but also during the winter when I need to clear the driveway of snow. I am on my 3rd pair and will buy again.
So I've been wearing these for a couple months now and the fit is great. Nice and light, fully waterproof and this has been tested by walking through creeks and not a drop of water is felt and socks are completely dry. The downside is the traction on smooth rocks and or small loose gravel is very poor. It has caused me to lose my footing twice. I have lost my trust in the grip of these in rain and confidence when going down an incline with rocks and mud.
Super comfortable. Ample support. Perfect for all day use.
I love these shoes. I have worn them every single day for years. As far as comfort and support go, they truly cannot be beat. I work in a factory setting where I am on my feet for 12 hours at a time. These shoes absolutely provide ample support when worn for long durations.
I would love to give them 5 stars. Unfortunately, I have had a problem getting them to last. I average about 10 months per pair. At around the 8 to 9 month point the rubber in the soles will start to pull back. It eventually gets to a point where they just aren't useable anymore.
And, unfortunately, after going through 3 pairs in less than 3 years, I have tried a different brand. I won't mention a name, but as far as comfort goes, they do not come close to my beloved Merrells. I can't justify spending the money on a new pair of Merrells until I have worn these lesser shoes out. I just hope that by then perhaps that specific design flaw has been remedied and I can enjoy these glorious shoes for more than 10 months at a time.
I’ve been wearing MERRELL products for over 15 years and have never had a problem with fit, construction or performance. I don’t bother with other manufacturers anymore. I have found what works for me and that is MERRELL.
