The jacket is warm and comfortable but sounds like a potato chip bag crinkling when you move. Not sure if it will quiet down after some break in time as I have only worn it 3 days but it is much louder than expected. The liner material also catches on your under layer pulling your sleeves up when putting on. The outer layer is quiet when rubbed against brush, it just makes noise inside of the jacket when moved.
great jacket for cool temperatures. I don't know why they call it a parka
Got this on the Black Friday sale, and it is worth that price. I also bought the non-white wool fleece "jacket". I can detect no difference between the jacket and this "parka". They appear to be identical jackets with different camo. Apparently snow camo makes this a "parka".
Hence the identical prices. These are good pieces for people who will be stationary in cool weather or moving moderately in cold weather that is not sub zero. They are a little warmer than a goof fleece and not much more wind resistant.
I would have liked it better if the camo pattern was a little less fashionable, and a little more technical though I like being able to wear it around town and not look too much like I'm just wearing hunting clothes in public.
Issues: 1. The fabric on the sleeve and side have pilled on me in ways straight wool would not, not any fleece I've owned. Something about this hybrid fabric makes it do that. It doesn't look nice. If is worsens, I may return it.
2. It doesn't really seem to block the wind much. I wore it on a white fiver fishing trip in 15-26 MPH wind, and I needed to wear a shell parka over it, though the ambient temp was about 38-42 Degrees. Without wind it would have been fine.
3. The inner liner is a little sticky- making it hard to take of while driving, or similar situations (like in a stand) is your inner garment naturally bonds with the material- like cotton or polyester.
However, I do like the coat. I did wear these all week and in 24-52 degrees temps and strong winds, with the right layering aids, they felt good. It is a good, solid coat.
It also has nice long arms, which made a big difference to me, as I often need tall clothing.
I'm just not sure it's the elk hunting soft shell I was hoping it would be. It just doesn't block wind that well and the camo pattern is just ok, and it's not light weight wise for it's warmth.. I wouldn't buy it if wind blocking is key for you-as a light ice fishing jacket or glassing soft shell in windy situations.
