I ordered them in XL hoping I could wear a thin glove underneath but then they become too tight. They are my go-to cold weather (20 degrees to below zero) hand protection. I have struggled in the past to find mittens to keep my hand warm when it gets cold here in Minnesota. I do not have that problem with these. The outer shells are tough, wind and waterproof. The inner liners are very warm. What I really like is how quickly my hands warm up once I put my hands in these mittens. Because of the extreme cold and windchills, I wear a light glove so when I must do something that requires more dexterity, I have some hand protection from the cold, but my hands still start to freeze when it is 10 below and 25 below windchill. What impressed me the most is how well the Altimeter Mittens trap the heat so when I put my hands back in, they rewarm quickly. The only minor complaint is the liner slides so easily in the shell, I struggle getting the second mitten on. It is a minor inconvenience to get the warmth and the flexibility of having a shell and liner that can be used in several different configurations.
