I am a Japanese alpine climber. I was looking for clothing that would allow me to comfortably concentrate on climbing even in harsh weather conditions such as strong winds, extreme cold and snowstorms. I prefer branded clothing that no other climber wears, rather than a typical mountaineering brand. Stone Glacier was the most suitable for those condition. The temperature was 23 ° F and the wind was sometimes strong, but it was warm in the sun and sweated a lot when climbing. However, the M5 Jacket and M5 Pant helped keep the wind and cold out and let the sweat out, keeping my skin dry like never before, so I never got cold. Among them, I wore HELIO HOODY, HELIO BOTTOM, and CHINOOK MERINO CREW LS. I will continue to wear these and climb many high peaks.
This is an initial review without long-term wear. The quality of this jacket is fantastic- as good as anything I've used in the hunting, mountaineering, and military markets. I am 6' and 185lbs with long arms and fell right on the edge of M and LG sizes. I ended up keeping the M for a closer fit. With the subtle stretch in the fabric it fits like a glove and moves with you. The stitching, seams, and zippers are all clean and I expect the jacket to be very durable.
Outstanding rain gear, most impressive: you really breathe through it! I have the pants too and I am not afraid of long rainy days in the woods..Brought a big peace of mind..I'm 5'9" and 170lbs (30.30 pants) and medium jacket/pants are perfect for me..
Okay, I get it. This Jacket is really expensive. But you know what? I’m not going to buying a new rain coat for years. Not only do I never want to stop using this thing, but I am a Stone Glacier customer for life and have been ever since I picked up my first pack from them (sky 5900). Awesome company that makes amazing products. You will not regret your purchase.
I’m 5-10, 205 lbs, 19” torso, 30” inseam,35” waist. I’m went with large jacket and pant. The cut for the jacket gives enough room for kuiu super down pro. The pant has enough room for kuiu super down pro pant but feels snug.the rain gear works great using on Vancouver island bc it rains 75% of the year. RAIN GEAR REVIEW. STONE GLACIER M5, KUIU YUKON, SITKA THUNDERHEAD,
Great, lightweight and very effective in even heavy downpours. I have used on one hunting trip so far, and am very pleased with it. Trying to find a Grumman Down Jacket in Large/XLarge, and having no luck, hope you get some in soon.
I had the pleasure of trying out the new m5 jacket and pants this year for early archery elk. It rains a lot in wa state, and I have put everything to the test for rain gear that’s out there. The m5 jacket and pant is the only rain gear that has kept me dry and lasted me multiple days in The backcountry down poors. If you hunt in the wet soggy terrain, get the m5
I am 6'3'' and have had other rain jackets ride up on my lower back when climbing/moving. The cut of this jacket is perfect for me. I have only worn it in the shower so far, and its ability to shed water is impressive - amongst the best I have tried. Thanks SG!
I just finished up with 28 days of guiding in southwest Alaska for brown bear and moose. I did two hunts, both of which I basically lived in this jacket. We had quite a bit of heavy rain and wind on both hunts and the M5 kept me surprisingly dry. For being a lightweight peice of rain gear, it is superior to any other rain jacket I have worn in the last 15 years of guiding. There was no seeping through in the elbows or the neck areas as is very common with others. As long as I kept my wrist cuffs tight the arms also stayed dry. Even busting through the wet alders and willows, the inside fabric stayed dry. The only recommendations I have to make this a better piece is to add a chest pocket. Having to unzip to get after a GPS or phone or the like was slightly inconvenient but definitely not a deal-breaker. I am excited to continue to wear this jacket in Montana this fall. As always, thanks for the great gear.
So far love it! Got it just in time for 2 hunts I was going on in SE, AK. Expecting there to be a ton of rain we’ve had none in 10 days which is a total shocker. Fits great, feels great, have no doubt it’ll keep the water out!
I never review a product without testing it. Opening day deer season in southeast Alaska the winds were 25 mph sustained with showers but I stayed warm and dry. Hiked through chest high brush that has torn pants and jackets from other companies. This jacket showed one minor scuff that came off in the wash. Layers very well. Standard Stone Glacier procedure is to wait, engineer, then release products ready for the outdoors, not just something that will make money. This jacket is evidence of that model.
I'm going on my second sheep hunt in September. Weather can be unpredictable and the last time was a torrential downpour. Looking forward to putting this gear to the test. Will update after September 20.
I bought this jacket after a day of heavy rain and hail fly fishing the Bitterroot. My previous rain jacket that was from another supposed high end brand was worthless and I could have done better with a trash bag. Thus coat is legit. Everything stone glacier puts out so far has meet or exceeded my expectations. Great company and great staff.
The cut of the fabric around the under arm and shoulder, along with the sleeve design is awesome. I’m 6’ 6” and have always had an issue with jackets and shirts riding up my waistline when I reach upwards, but this jacket has fixed that issue. The durability and weight are great as well. This jacket will probably be sticking with me for a very long time.
Fits true to size and the cut is perfect! It’s athletic, with enough room to layer insulation underneath, and it’s made to be able to climb and crawl with arms overhead without riding up... perfect! Would love a couple interior stuff pockets for gloves and hats, but other than that I think this thing is a great marriage of features and minimalism!
First impression of this was the hood fitted well over a hat. Once out in the elements zipped to the chin nice ear coverage. Zipped totally nice face protection and great ear protection with or without a hat. Most hoods leave an air gap when a hat is on. Great work in hood system and piece over all.
