Twice during the course of my hunt, the wooden post managed to work its way out of the retaining loop of the strap as it was being worn on the waist belt of my Metcalf pack. The first time, I noticed it happened when I heard the holster fall to the ground. The second time evidently occurred during a stalk when I was doing a slow butt-slide down a slope toward feeding elk. I didn't notice the holster was gone until later that day while back at camp. Being 95% sure it came off during that stalk, the next morning I returned to that location and thankfully found it about half way down the slope I was sliding on. To fix it so it would unfasten again, I used a zip-tie around the loop once the wooden post had been placed through it, making the loop too small for the post to unintentionally pass through.
If the "post and loop" design is to remain, I think making the loop a bit smaller would be one remedy or, better yet, make the loop out of an elasticized material (and smaller so the post has to be forced through it and the loop holds it better.
I don't know if this problem relates to all the holsters produced or just mine, but it certainly was an issue for me.
Don’t go hunting in bear country without it!
