It's very smooth but the liveliner function on this isn't the best. The multiple setting lever isn't ideal. I wish they went with the standard on/off lever and an adjustable dial on the bottom. The adjustability is not much and is a pain to do. The 2500LL is used for creek, pond and fluke fishing, my 4500LL is my everyday reel and then comes my 6500LL primarily used for surf fishing. Most people say that the Live Linear model is used for live bait, well this statement is not true depending on the type of fishing you’re doing. The live linear function works great for live bait but it also works great for artificial bait as well. Versatile!","text":"I’ve had the 4500 reel for 2 years now and I’ve never had a problem out of it! Back home I use it for various bass species and when I vacation to the beach I use it for surf fishing. This year I pulled this shark out of the surf with it no problem. The drag system was flawless and the reel handle this shark very well! I hade the reel paired with a Penn squadron III 7’6” medium fast which I though was to light of a rod for shark fishing and surf fishing. But I was proved very wrong!! I was just as impressed with the rod! Have used several different reels. This has hands down been my favorite out of them all! I have the 6500 LL, (sorry penn, I did pair it with an 11 foot ugly stik ) it smooth casting, and it holds enough line to get it way out past the sand bars. But for reel tho, the live liner feature is what totally makes it for me. It can be set light for blues or flounder or a little heavier for some reds. But I can’t tell you how happy I have been to not have to chase my rod down the beach when a shark gets it and runs!! The preset LL drag is perfect every time! Just start reeling and the fight is on!! Nothing.","text":"DO NOT purchase this reel unless you want the best in live lining. My Shimano Baitrunner went kaput, so I purchased a 8500LL. There was no comparison to the Shimano. So next came 2 - 4500's. Soon 'nuff later: 2 - 6500's. And I expect that there will be more coming in the mail soon. If you like to live line, this is the best of the best. \r\n\r\nThere was one issue with the 8500 that Penn fixed for NC. Other than that, these reels have been flawless. \r\n\r\nIf you are worried about guts... don't. The 8500 pulled in a 200# + Dusky, and I do not know how many King's and Tuna's.
