Never before has smoking been this versatile. The double walled insulation lets you smoke from 150°F to temperatures reaching 450°F, unlike any other smoker on the market today. The large front window eliminates the need for peek-a-boo cooking and its elevated frame makes transferring your meal from the smoker to the table a breeze. With the PB 5 Series Pellet Smoker there is no need to fret about cooking lengths - it's large hopper allows you to cook for up to 24 hours! Its sleek design is not only unique, it is also functional. The PB 5 Series Pellet Smoker features 1,513 sq. in. of porcelain coated cooking racks, locking caster wheels, an easy to read digital controller, and a stunning hammer tone copper finish. The multiple position racking system ensures you'll have enough room to smoke anything your heart (or stomach) desires.
My Springfield IL Scheels was sold out except for the store display, luckily they allowed me to purchase it. Shout out to the associates who helped me get this preassembled smoker on wheels from the top floor of the store to the back of my car!! So far, I have used it for ~5 hours for baby backs last weekend, and just finished 15 hour + smoke of a pork shoulder. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I hesitated making the original purchase since I already had the Pit Boss Pro 1100 grill (we have been very happy with after year + of use) and didn’t know if this was something that I could justify. Already, I can see the benefits of smoking in a vertical style pellet smoker over smoking in a grill (grill is still great, it’s just better as a grill). To begin: the heat source is so close to the grates in the grill that meat cooks faster than the vertical style, the vertical smoker has additional cooking space, the easy to slide in/out grates are more user friendly for meat transportation, you can see your food without impacting the cook, it has an integrated water pan, and it’s much easier to clean than the grill. Knock on wood, I haven’t had any error codes or issues, but I followed the burn off instructions exactly, I follow the start up and turn off procedures exactly, I’m using high quality pellets (Smokehouse from Sams Club), I bought a cover for it and I’m operating it in a covered location where it’s protected from the weather. Based on some reviews you find on the internet about this product, it seems like folks take for granted that #1 this is an electronic device so keep it out of the weather and #2 wood pellets and moisture are not friends. My opinion, if you can find one buy it and take care of it.
I picked up my Pitboss Series 5 on Sunday and put it together in about an hour...no problems. Followed the steps for the burn-in and all went well.
Yesterday I filled it with two pork butts, a brisket, and a couple of other 'things' to try. I stayed close just to see how everything went...and it went VERY well. The heat range stayed with in 8-10 degrees all day, and the internal probe was within acceptable range from the externals I used. The results are delicious.
My one suggestion is the same as some others have posted. Read the instructions as you assemble it, read the instructions as you do the burn-in, and read the instructions when you use it.
I realize it is still new and 'early'...but so far I am very happy with the purchase.
It works great, it does have one small problem. The cover over the digital controls is warped and bubbles out, allowing things it get inside. We are waiting on a new one from the manufacturer at this point
Erh faults!!!! What the heck? Can I have my money back?
Love the size and function of the unit. Only problem is it doesn't work, continually faulting on erh (overtemp). Called support, they are sending a new control panel. (It is brand new, don't the new units already have a new control panel?). Hoping it fixes the problem, but have little faith in pit boss at the moment.
Thank you for your review! We're sorry to hear this product is not working out. Everything you buy at SCHEELS, on sale or otherwise, is guaranteed satisfactory or your money back. You don't take chances at SCHEELS ... ever. If you need any further assistance if the new control panel doesn't work, please give the store you purchased it at a call. They might be able to have more ideas for how to get this resolved by one of our in-store experts, or they can let you know the best way to move forward if you need a return or exchange.

Best smoker I ever had. Exceeded my expectations. Very easy to use and clean. Great customer service.
We have been thru two other smokers the past couple years and have never gotten the results we hoped for...until now. Seasoned smoker as instructed and started using right away. First thing smoked was a medium sized turkey. YUMMY, YUMMY!! Next was a pork butt and must say best pulled pork sandwiches we've ever had.
