Unfortunately the beam failed and my bike took a thimble on the road to a ride. But Saris came to the rescue... they covered all repairs parts and labor. I was amazed that they did this as well as replaced the faulty beam. I would 100% buy this product again. Side note: my partner has had a the same beam for over 4 years with no issues what so ever. Thank you Saris for doing the right thing. Now, I have 2 to accommodate 2 bikes on my hitch mount bike rack. Again, I am impressed with its weight (steel, not summer folding chair light aluminum), heft, easy to extend its length to fit your bike, and quality build (very little play). The jaw ends are coated with a protective material (almost feels like rubber) to protect the finish on your bike. Opening the jaws of the ends does require a strong thumb press on a rectangular button (OK with me, jaws will not open by themselves) and then closing the jaws goes very easy if you grasp both serrated sides of each jaw (not the top and bottom) and push forward and you will get an audible locking click. As a side benefit, the front jaw has a dimple in it that holds the handlebar and consequently front wheel straight.
