The rescue red locking mechanism is fine, I liked the old style better personally but this one still works and is pretty secure for most activities including EDC. I wouldn’t have it in my pocket/backpack mountain biking, ski touring, etc though due to fear of inadvertent unlocking. The old style lock seems way more secure and that knife is still my go-to. \r\n\r\nMy big gripe and the reason for 2 stars is because of the two new Aegis knives I have, only 1 securely locks (the rescue red). This one is terrible and now sits on a shelf; the locking mechanism was noticeably looser than the rescue red. So much so that just having it in Jean pockets with nothing else in my pocket, it would unlock inadvertently. Real bummed out because I like this color more than the red, and my original version with the different locking mechanism is really beat up. So basically just feel like I wasted my money on this model; it’s unsafe to EDC. Other than that great knives and the blade is sturdy which is hard to find on knives in this price range. I did open it real quick, super sharp right out of the box like usual. I have several other assisted openers an can't say enough about them. One thing, when you get an assisted opener, add a couple drops of oil an work it for a week. Open an close it several times each day, but the end of the week it should work flawlessly. I've read a few reviews on these knives an people complaining about how hard they are to open, follow what I'm saying an you'll be very happy. My oldest one is now 5 years old, skinned an gutted probably 20 deer in that time frame an still is my edc. I use my knife upwards of at least 100 times per day while doing my job in hospital supplies. I bring it home on the weekends, clean the adhesive off, and hit it with a steel for a couple min to bring back that razor edge. I especially like the clip. I wear scrubs and the Aegis AT clips perfect in the V of my scrubs top. It's not a heavy knife, but the weight is noticeable so you know if you have it on you. The easy open/close is also awesome because I can operate the knife completely one handed. I now have three of these blades. Easy to operate and easy to keep sharp. The packaging is a bit pretentious, but everything about this knife is good. It's incredibly sharp out of the box, and the lockup is both sturdy and satisfying. I work at a wilderness school and use knives regularly for all sorts of tasks, and this is my new favorite folding knife. Two of my coworkers already bought their own because they liked mine so much.\r\n\r\nI also love that they come in colors that aren't just black! That was a big selling point for me and for my colleagues. Knife is only a year old, did not expect the belt clip to be worthless so soon. I do like this knife. It's sharp and feels good in my hand and in my pocket. I would give it five stars but I just don't care for the spring loaded open and closing. The Spec Elite 2 was sooo easy to open and close one handed.
